So somehow...in a quest to be somewhat healthier, I substituted Tanqueray for beer. Pros: less calories, no bloating, no peeing, no bottles to return. Cons: I can actually handle booze quite well, so this leads to martini madness and a lighter wallet from green bottles galore and a happy Drane making online Christmas purchases at 2AM with a Barnabyesque BAC.

I will attempt to take on your theology issue. The action itself today was not the work of satan. The millions of tiny actions leading up to and "nurturing" this day to happen is the work of satan. Matrix31 made a good point.....stop trying to understand....evil is evil. Anyone that can take out innocent little children is beyond gone. There is no need to feel sympathy for the scumbag, but to think that he just well off decided to think it was a good idea to do this is folly. True evil is done every day........it is those with the brains...ability....and power...to manipulate and take advantage of those unkonwing. It happens in multitudes of the hundreds of thousands each day. People are so brainwashed as to their own importance that we see a societal inefficiency take hold because of continued evil. Some people triumph evil deeds while not being evil themselves. Plenty of people live in denial, in grasp of the "just doing my job" paycheck, while supporting evil. This action today is but a blip on the radar of current society. The ability to understand and feel what is truly living is going to be lost on this current generation if it already hasn't been. This technology that dilutes the social process...and the thrill of the media capture of the experience versus the thrill of the experience......it's just a shame. There are plenty of people that could have carried out today's drastic deeds. They are in need of help, but all too often those people are scorned. There is no need to feel pity on them.....but just the need to understand that today isn't the result of 1 person of major evil........it is the result of millions of instances of slightly measurable denial.....avoidance....badgering.......etc....that leads to the devil himself smiling. The proverbial straw that broke the devil's back so to speak...... Sometimes crazy and horrible situations are brought up upon us as a wakeup call. If you think that today has to do with guns....as much as I love some of you guys who advance this theory, you are nuts. There was a person in China who sliced up 20 kids today with a knife. I am a 6'6" 300lb fella who could probably do a lot of damage with my bare hands if need be...especially on an unsuspecting, innocent target. People need to reflect every day on what is truly evil and how to prevent it. I am not shocked by today's events. Prepare your hearts for more and more of these tribulations. I paused and shed a tear, but we are headed far deeper than this unless there is a true miracle. The devil didn't shine today.....he's been shining and just used today to take a rest..... -
People from Ohio don't know how to drive. When I'm on the road I avoid the following: 1) The 290 2) Jesus Fish 3) Asians 4) Amherst Cops 5) Motorcycles 6) Haitians 7) Double semis 8) Black Women 9) Matt Barnaby 10) Ohio Plates

I believe it's multi-fold. The availability and use of drugs now and the seeming ease at which people can be diagnosed with "lesser" disorders, the environment both in a physical and emotional sense, the advance in technology with instant worldwide communication, movies, games, etc. perpetuating things, etc. Kids used to grow up with a mom and a dad under the same roof...played football outside or with their dolls and used their imagination. It's all a cluster-f now and everone from age 1 day to 100 years is overstimulated. A top starts to wobble off it's point and eventually it will shoot off the table...... -

The only way you can do that to little kids is if you feel you have been wronged by them. Odds are, shooter has some form of functional mental illness, had issues with the parents and felt the mother didn't give him enough attention....the mother probably fawned over her school kids and told many stories, her own son resented it and between the mental illness and other domestic issues, felt so cornered and scorned, that he went in for his just due. Probably a big recent event in his life to set it off....and add in the entitlement generation of society these days as well as the protectionist and coddling movement to add to his justification....and there you go. Only a rough estimate given the incertainty of the circumstances...but that's how you see something like this happen. -
The lockout. Why is it awesome? Because everyone here (save political thread), has not had to defend hockey loyalties and get grumpy with each other. There has been a lot more talking about life and the things that matter, and whether they be great or nervewracking, the amount of trust here in the details of the stories lately is very telling. Maybe some people already felt this way, but in a strange little way this has turned into more of a therapy group, or friend network. I'm happy that this can be an outlet, and I actually wish the best for everyone. We are missing a bunch of regulars, but I hope the game stays locked out so I can get it all out of my system and never have to get involved in a heated debate over a silly game. There are too many more important things and too many good people here to concentrate on. I hope everyone can find a few simple slivers of awesomeness every day no matter the chaos surrounding them.

You just gotta laugh..... The Karma wheel always comes around. Sometimes it's better to get your ass kicked all at the same time because it makes the rest of life sweeter along the way. Praying the baby is fine...which it sounds like isn't a problem. Everything else is trivial......you already said. Hang in there.....almost done!

They moved the line from -4 to - 6 in amazing fashion. That's hard to do with a spread in that area against an 11-1 team. It was obviously right. There was some discussion amongst the boys the day before when it was 3 1/2 and how it was the lock of the week. Then it was suddenly 6, but still the lock of the week. It's been an interesting year for national TV games. I can think of 5 games offhand that swung in the last 30 seconds, 3 on the last play, and a whole lot of iffy calls and line movements inbetween. Mommy.....please tell me Santa is real!

I'm fine with Alex Smith. He ran a Gailey style offense in college. He has an arm. We shall see. By the way.....Uncle Vito says something fishy is going on tonight with New England. They gobbled up the line like Twinkies on Ebay.

The Bills are in a different spot than the Sabres. They had horrible talent 3 years ago, they brought in a new GM/coach, and last year was the first go at spending towards their potential limit. They are young for the most part and on the improve, but their killer instinct isn't there.....and if you give them 1 more year and take a shot again in the offseason to finish plugging the holes which are about 30% of what they were at the start of this.....then you have your definitive answer. I just said if Gailey gets canned....i understand it. I also think he is honorable enough to step down if he really thinks he has failed so as not to put pressure on an organization that has been mediocre at best for over a decade. This isn't the same 2 people in charge, spending to and past the cap and sticking behind the exact same players and philosophy with putrid results for the past 5 years. If they come back and stick with Fitz......I will be all for canning them all at the first sign of trouble.

Like d4rk said....he sounds defeated. And that's why I can't stand in front of a change. I just don't want that change to be for the sake of it. He feels like I do. I thought they had the horses and were on the verge of doing something nice....and he didn't get them to crank. People need to relax on the Spiller thing. He's explosive, but when you key on him he is going to get you stuck in some 3rd and longs.....or else you have to use him as play action and find your matchups. That's why I understand what Chan is doing with that. Freddy is still smarter, and has a lot of tools. Freddy's game is more a B+,B+,A-,B,A-......and Spiller is more of a A+, B-,C+,A-,B.........you can call a more balanced game with Freddy....although his body just seems to be hitting the wall now. I totally understand Chan's line of thinking in all aspects and I think he is a winner long term. You see what him and Wanny get you though when things are going well.....lots of 11-5, 9-7, 10-6. Their history is out there. The attitude on this team just didn't get over the hump this year, and I think that is why Gailey is depressed because he takes it personal. He's not a young pup anymore and who knows what could be going on behind the scenes at this point. I would hope he can refresh himself this offseason and give it a go with a strong-armed QB next year. It sucks when you know you have good people around you, and who you thought had the talent, but it didn't get done. It puts you in an emotional quandry. And I would take a bullet for a guy like Gailey over taking a traffic ticket for a guy like Darcy. It's one thing to protect your players...Ruff does it and I don't call him a weasel. It's another to have your only goal being to survive another year to collect another paycheck. Gailey may even resign out of pride for not getting the job done. I puke at the comparison.

I owe you one.....nothing to do with the quote. You were right about Arizona. I marked that game as key and i whiffed. It was just getting by a bad team. I feel bad for Chan right now. I love the guy. I know what he is thinking most of the time, I like how he thinks whether most people do or not.....but the game management yesterday was disgusting. He has to be doubting himself right now from his actions....maybe an age thing at the end of a long season.....but I can't fault a change now. The franchise is in a tough place. I would double down on Buddy and Chan as long as they can get a 1a QB in here via trade or FA ala the Bledsoe move. This combo isn't working. It's hard to develop a killer instinct when your QB is an introvert and can't hit a pass beyond 7 yards with accuracy most days. One thing is Wanny had faith in his guys and they really have come together as a unit. There is still a glaring need at LB and #2 CB, but that line has figured it out for the most part. For all the Williams bashers, the guy obviously had an issue as his play has been night and day. I love the O-Line when healthy. Pears was 80% from the start, and Hairston is the perfect #3 swing tackle. From center to left tackle, you can be above average for the next 5 years. Donald Jones has made huge strides in reliability and David Nelson comes back. Graham at least has some talent, and Spiller has blown up. It's tough to get rah-rah when this all too familiar feeling of loserdome hits, but it is far from a bad team. It's like turning the engine over on a 15 degree day......once it goes,,,the car will heat up and be fine. These guys just haven't gotten it to crank yet. My guess is that if God willing, Ralph is able to keep with us for next year, Buddy and Chan get one more shot.....a QB will probably be brought in from the Rivers/Flacco/Romo tier, even if we have to overpay, they will draft heavy at LB and CB, and they may overpay in FA for a boisterous vet on D who has won something. Barnett is not enough, and unfortunately as much as I love him....he and Wilson have just been a half step behind this year and might not stick. Much like the Sabres, the need an extrovert who will get nasty out there but has something in the tank. Mario is more a Vanek. We need to find a Doan.

Well said. Louis C.K. the comedian was sick of getting jerked around. He had a show on HBO and signed over his life to do it, and lost not only creative control, but had very little skin in the game to demand control. It was so funny that on the DVD of Luckie Louie, the commentary from the actors was just bashing HBO on an HBO distributed DVD because they knew the show wasn't going forward. Louie wanted control and to F the man........so he went and did his own show from top to bottom and shopped it. FX picked it up. That was the start. He then said...."Hey, I have millions of fans out there who pay $80 for a ticket to see me after fees and $25 for my DVD's. You know what......screw the middle man and let me work straight with my fans." What Louie did was put his act on the internet for a $5 download and promised not to use your contact info for anything else. He knew this could make it easy to fileshare...but still had a little faith in humanity. What happened? He crushed. Hundreds of thousands of downloads in a few days. To go along with it he started to sell his own tickets to smaller venues where the big boys didn't have control, and he can get his fans in for half the price. Louie has balls. By TAKING THE RISK UPON HIMSELF, he was able to not only make more money for himself....the star......but cut the cost for his fans to see his product in more than half. There is nothing stopping the players of the NHL from doing this. If they really are the show, and they really give a squat about the fans.....take the next year to put your own league and agreements together, or at least seriously start the process. There are plenty of ways to get around current ownership influence in most cities. The models are out there if players had any sack and really cared about the fans. They don't though. Many are just overgrown frat-boys who think they are god's gift. I am rooting for the owners to just break their backs now. Take 2 years off.

Go figure.....Mr. Marfan blows an ankle again........ Nothing against Myers, and I hope I am smoking dope, but this kid is going to retire in 5 years if this stuff holds........and if he has cardio issues, which I now have 0% faith in the Sabres medical staff to have a clue......I want all these a-holes on a BBQ platter.
