I am going to go double or nothing on NY next game.....after that, not sure.
-
I'd be interested to see other entertainment venues near here in comparison....The Bills, Darien Lake, Bisons, etc. And by no means did the entire ticket base see a 5x increase in that period. They have the student surge section now which is a cute idea. Yes, prices are out of control compared to wages. It's a luxury good....if people buy...then it is fair.
-
The new arena doubled it from $5 to $10. So yes. The thing is....as a college kid, I could work for 1 hour and buy a ticket. So could anyone. At $26 today.......a kid has to work 3 hours. I'm not blaming any owner in particular....just saying it's understandable the atmosphere is dull. Overall the prices are fair.....I'm just one fan who choses to spend his entertainment dollar elsewhere for the most part.

Not sure of your point. If you can find me wages, income, or housing increasing 5-fold in the past 18 years here...I'd be interested to see it. If you want to even out the increases, I should reference the $12 price rollback. People wonder why the arena is like a library.....this is part of it.

Don't make fun of my dad! I'm going to parlay NY winning the next 2 games. In Torts I Trust.....

:P No...back in the day we used to present "statistics". Today we are spoonfed "advanced statistics", by every Tom,D!ck, and Harry with a hockey blog or twitter feed to explain off total failure by our beloved hockey team. I'm all for using any set of variables you want to disect something. Just don't expect me to always find it worthwhile. I did this more out of my own curiosity. All I know is that in 1995 I was paying $5 a seat for my season tickets. $10 in 1997. $15 in 2004. $26 in 2013. I think the Sabres are fairly priced as I tend to feel the price/income ratio is most important...and they are average. The last ratio is more on the fans and their opportunity cost for choosing to attend a Sabres game. It's also another valid reason for Toronto to invade us, and I guess Pitt to an extent.

OK... Average league season ticket price.....$61.01 Average Sabres ticket........$46.15 I will just use a ticket multiplier of 1,000 and then divide by median income to index it. Buffalo is ranked 139 in household median income for metro areas......$38,488.....that's an index of 1.199 Other NHL cities: 1 San Jose $51.47 $63,024 0.816 2 Washington $73.75 $57,291 1.287 4 Minneapolis $62.63 $54,304 1.153 5 Boston $64.39 $52,792 1.219 10 Denver $40.62 $51,088 0.795 11 Chicago $62.88 $51,046 1.231 12a NYR $72.04 $50,795 1.418 12b NYI $65.21 $50,795 1.283 12c NJ $48.06 $50,795 0.946 (The average which is probably more fair comparison...1.216) 16 Detroit $53.28 $49,160 1.08 18 Raliegh/Dur $47.89 $48,845 0.980 23 Philadelphia $71.59 $47,528 1.506 25 Dallas $36.09 $47,418 0.761 43a Los Angeles $61.36 $45,903 1.336 43b Anaheim $40.49 $45,903 0.882 57 Columbus $47.95 $44,782 1.070 59 Phoenix $40.32 $44,752 0.900 65 St. Louis $46.20 $44,437 1.039 67 Nashville $60.44 $44,223 1.366 132 Miami $55.75 $38,632 1.443 153 Pittsburgh $67.52 $37,467 1.802 156 Tampa $38.12 $37,406 1.019 And Canada.....who is at par.... Ottawa $42.09 $94,700 0.444 Calgary $66.35 $89,490 0.741 Edmonton $79.27 $87,930 0.901 Winnipeg $97.84 $72,050 1.357 Toronto $124.69 $68,110 1.830 Vancouver $87.38 $67,090 1.302 Montreal $78.56 $67,010 1.172 So Buffalo is pretty average in terms of ticket prices relative to income. They are the 14th most expensive in the league. Toronto and Pttsburgh are the only teams that really seem to crush the fans, yet the waiting list and Superstar/Cups can explain off those two. Now....to add in TrueBlue's idea of cost of living index........the median league ratio of ticket price to income is 1.21 When you compare the relative price to income and then factor in the cost of living index for each city for competing prices of goods, entertainment, housing etc..... Buffalo 1.199 / index of 102.2 1.173 Washington 1.287/140.1 0.918 Boston 1.219/132.5 0.92 Chicago 1.231/116.9 1.05 NYR 1.418/216.7 0.645 NYI 1.283/145.7 0.880 Philadelphia 1.506/126.5 1.190 Los Angeles 1.336/136.4 0.979 Nashville 1.366/88.9 1.536 Miami 1.443/115.7 1.247 Pittsburgh 1.802/na safe to say more than Buffalo Toronto ranked 61 in cost of living versus LA at 66 using LA index 1.83/136.6 1.34 Vancouver ranked 63 vs LA at 66 1.302/136.4 0.954 Winnipeg.....can't find valid data. All of the other cities with cheaper prices relative to income either have a +100 index, or it does not approach the level of Buffalo after indexing. So when you add up all the factors of ticket price, income, and cost of comparable goods......The Buffalo Sabres are actually the 6th most expensive ticket in the NHL....behind Pittsburgh, Nashville, Toronto, Florida, and Philadelphia...... While not a perfect study....it puts into perspective what the average fan is actually giving up when they purchase a Sabres ticket. At least Pittsburgh and Philly have been to a Cup recently. We know Florida is inflated and nowhere near the average price a fan walks in the door for. The only teams that seem to give you less bang for the buck are Toronto and Nashville. I used metro numbers for all cities.....look at LA/MIA....there's money in dem hills....it gets averaged out by the poverty. And I am not a season ticket holder any longer. If someone is willing to spend their money, good on them.
-
I've got a few minutes...let me work on it. No need to adjust.....just compare ticket prices to median income.....it's built in for you.
-
Amen....I would hang out at the mall across the street and you could get free tickets 50% of the time. The other 50% you could scalp lower level seats for $50 a pair. What is Buffalo's median household income compared to say.....NY,NY,Bos,Tor,LA,Phi,Was,SJ,Ana,Mont,Ott,Phnx,Dal,TB,Car,etc.,etc,etc.????? People love getting sh!t on here i guess.....
-
Yeah....the lake is the feeder in this case. I live in the area and I have seen the potential for tornado a good dozen times. Having seen them form before, once you start seeing the low clouds updraft as the high clouds blow into each other....get in the house!

Most didn't. At the Orr farm and attached training center, 150 horses are assumed dead. Most of the time it is safe to bunker them down for a sustained hurricane, but in storms like this they let them loose to run the pastures as they have a better shot. They only got so many out of the stalls and one trainer lost his entire string of 12 horses. They are setting up a fund to help these guys out. Tons of locals have offered help but it was so bad the other day, they couldn't get into town. Sad stuff..... I've seen interesting lines of demarcation when it comes to weather......you see it with lake effect snow...Michael Rd is usually the line for a good amount of storms. In the summer, thunderstorms roll through in an interesting path between Losson and Walden. In fact, they had 2 tornados along that same path in 20 years though nothing as bad as this. In Florida i used to go nuts because they built Calder racetrack right in the path of the most numerous storms that hit almost daily in the summer. Hurricane Wilma came through and took out the backside with half the barns getting ripped open. Weather sure is interesting. We still know so little.

Darcy gets rid of all the Frenchies.......

All the pros have said the only way to be sure to survive was to be underground.....since basements are a no-no, 6x8' storm cellars cost 8 grand to put in....which is why some even suggesting getting in a car to flee this...which sounds nuts to me, but staying above ground is not a smart idea. In FLA all the new buildings after Andrew had strict guidelines....but that could hold you to 130-150MPH or so.....not 200+ This is just an "it is what it is" situation in my opinion, and I'm glad to see 24 seems to be the count at this point given the pictures we have seen.
-
It has been stated that the soil of OK is not condusive for basements...much like Florida. It costs 8K just to put a 6x8 storm cellar in play. Aud Smell mentioned it up top..... Some day Buffalo is going to get burried by 12 feet of snow on a long weekend, and people will opine how stupid we are to live next to a westerly lake as the national guard is here for 2 weeks digging us out......
-
They have tons up front.....Hagelin got called out by Torts, and I didn't agree with it.....Nash, Richards, Stephan....Callahan.....and the rest of the guys on the 3rd and 4th lines I'd take in a heartbeat on the Sabres for 2nd and 3rd lines. Their D is beautifully built. I picked Boston to win the Cup, but this series goes 7 in my opinion....even at this point.
-
Simple formula....big bodies...play hard...big but mobile defense....clog...hit....rely on nice goalie and make most of opportunities. If their PP didn't suck right now, they may be favorites to win the whole shebang.

Pyatt is going to score the game winner........ I love the Rangers style. RonRol sort of agrees i think.... And I would gladly give myself up to a 3-way ravaging from Lucic and Callahan..... PS...Claude's suit is amazing.....

I have some "information" I'd like to share...... Good stuff...and on a similar note, I love how d4rk has Jo strategically placed next to a plate that reads "Gap to Hell".......

Nice job. If It'smyluckday could have run him down, I would have had an epic day. I liked Oxbow but keyed IMLD on top of him, Orb, Mylute, and Gov Charlie. I went to Canada just to bet in the hopes of taking home some tax-free big balloons. I wish I had time this weekend to do a writeup on the undercard.....it would have been a fun one. Hopefully someone read my writeup from last year and got confused...because Skyring won again this year the race before and paid $50. I need to find him someday and give that boy a bag of peppermints. The Belmont is shaping up to be a great betting race. There will be 7 or 8 legit horses that can win it from the looks of it.

Customs Agent? :) That's cool of y'all to get each other's back.

Vegas had this as an evenly matched series.....and with Boston with home ice, the Rangers the slightly better team. I think people overreacted to the loss of two really nice D-men. Boston was only -125 tonight. I really like both these teams and think this could go 7. My key now may be to go with the home team every game.....I will go with Boston game 2. They win, NY in 3, they lose, lay off game 3 and maybe 4.

I wouldn't suggest that.......
