NYR fire John Tortorella, Hire Alain Vigneault as new HC
Ghost of Dwight Drane replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in Archive
I can see Torts having to go.....he can wear thin if you aren't on the upswing. Sather never said "Torts is my coach as long as I am general manager"......which Darcy did multiple times in regard to Lindy. They both have Cup rings.....so even in the worst case they deserve a tad more respect than Sir Darcy the Teflon Weasel..... -

For anyone bagging on the Rangers and comparing them to Buffalo....Torts has won more playoff series in the past 1 year than Lindy Ruff has in the past 7 years......... -
It's all the same baby....... By the way, Michael Douglas really did an amazing Liberace. It was a cool story to watch.

No....PA goes with the onions because when he is on the parade float, it masks the smell of his flatulance better to throw off the corpse sniffing dogs who are marching behind.....

I'm rooting for LA/Boston now.....that would be a battle.

Patrick Roy is new Colorado Head Coach

I'm sure a historian of the ganme would know better......the question was asked of major sports. But like I said, a junior high kid could have been GM of the Sabres the past 7 years and gotten them 5 playoff wins total..... -

Jimmy did the dealings....in fact, he just came out not long ago saying Jones is an egomaniac who wants to take credit for everything in retrospect. It didn't work as well in Miami, but they did ok. In all honesty, it would be easy with the Sabres.....what, Darcy makes a deal or two every deadline and runs the draft. The coach can do that.......just let the scouts do their jobs, then you have April-June to do nothing but prepare for the draft. -

Amen...and Jimmy Johnson did pretty well for himself in Dallas. You don't see it so much in baseball as managing is a daily, intensive decision making job.....but football has the most crossover of guys making managerial decisions. Hey....even when they threw Jauron under the bus they said Maybin was his draft pick..... -
I would have argued for the pocket method of distribution......they also serve for our right to innocent until proven guilty and a fair trial!..... Thanks to all who served and serve...and all the families who support and miss them......

That tends to happen when "the finish is long and intense".....

OK...where am I sending this to again?.....

Amen......and as much as we could bag on Lindy for his coaching miscues, my heart still goes out to him for having a fair share of heavy stuff in his life..... Oh......shucks.....I built my master bedroom for Beyonce..........

You are in luck.....How I Met Your Mother is Ted Black's favorite show.......don't ask how I know..... You sound fairly logical......that gets you out of the initiation process where you have to play Truth or Dare with encrusted members.

Anderson is a slightly built guy. He's another one that needs a rotation to not wear out in my opinion. Anderson and Enroth for 50/30 would be an interesting duo. They rushed Roy back from that knee and it all went to pot. I have no idea why they did what they did with him. I didn't notice him in the Vancouver series, but to be fair, I didn't notice 80% of Vancouver.

I was frustrated with Pyatt too at times because he was so shy in using that god-gifted frame. Then in the playoffs of '06, he was probably the best forward on the puck. There were sustained zone shifts where nobody could move him. I thought the lightbulb went on. Ever since then he has been a solid 2-way player and can plug 10-15 goals in while hitting people at less than $2 million a year. He's pretty much been a better, bigger, more physical version of Hecht at 1/3 the price for the last 7 years.... He isn't awesome by any means, but he sort of became the poster boy for me of the combination of failures from the Sabres. Big forward who Lindy couldn't maximise his assets, a guy willing to play physical somewhere else but let go by Darcy in his early 20's while hanging on to his skilled softies for a decade, went on to help multiple teams and fills a nice 2-way role for cheap while we keep playing roster roulette with guys at the low end who are either physical and can't score, or have some touch but get pushed around.

I don't hang near the waterfront much....but I'm looking forward to going down to The Hatch and hitting the new clam stand. I must have been a stillborn in the 30's and brought back....because I am an old man..... Fried Bologna...beer...clams.....

He still makes me question my life choices when my toes curl......

1 minus year since leaving Buffalo....15 goals on average....85% playoff teams.... Plus, he's hot!

Thank You. I hate to be so negative, but that's all this franchise has given us for 98% of my time posting here. I thought Nix and Gailey were going to get the job done for the Bills. I respected them both as professionals and as human beings. As much as I liked them personally, the tandem failed in their 3 years together and I understand a change needed to be made. That's why I have no idea how some people go to bat so hard for so many of the failed Sabres' outputs.

The Ducks GM said everyone was available.......when asked about Getzlaf, he said Myers needed to be in the conversation. Backes was in the doghouse in 2010 and multiple local articles came out that StL was looking at moving him as their patience was wearing thin. A bunch of us here liked him if I remember and identified him as a bigbodied center we needed. He went on a run in the olympics and never looked back. I know there is plenty of speculation......but look at the list of names TrueBlue and I came up with off the top of our heads.....needs can be met, people make deals all the time, viable playoff type hockey players are out there to be had.......

He didn't "spend" hundreds of millions.......he invested in an asset that has appreciated the past decade, has maxed out revenues (at least for the regular season), and has been able to sustain margin increases..... He gets a new toy, makes money on it, and gains local influence. FF's sake.....they bought a full page ad in the paper to stroke the guy.........

David Backes was available and shopped heavily before the olympics where he springboarded. Anaheim had everyone on the table last year and Getzlaf for Myers was a quoted cornerstone from their GM. You could have signed Max Talbot and Taylor Pyatt in free agency to anchor a gritty 3rd line with scoring punch at under $2 million. I was begging for all of these moves along with others here. Carter, Richards, Nash, Simmonds, Schenn, van Riemsdyke, Gaborik, Iginla, Morrow, Broussard, Dubinsky, Seguin, Kessel, Kelly, Fisher, Richards, Parise, Suter, Lupul, Doan, Horton, Sutter, Stahl, Gionta, Laad, Wheeler, Steen.......I'm running out of space to name all of the talented and gritty guys that were either traded or available in free agency the past few years..... Ott was the 1 move in the past decade where someone with grit and talent was brought in....Regehr to an extent as well. Guys move all the time. You have to be able to identify them, pounce when they or their team are in a downtrend, use your assets when they are overperforming....and all of a sudden you have a sustained team that can compete year in and year out in the playoffs. Was Boston built in the draft? Was Pitt built in the draft? Was LA?......3/4 of your probable conference finalists have identified what it takes to build a team that is competitive for multiple years and can withstand the rigors of playoff hockey. It makes me sick even typing this.......

I think there is a middle ground here. I don't think he bought the team with the sole purpose of advancing his fracking initiative. I also think he is fan enough in the sense, "it would be really neat to own the Sabres". But there are the facts of Cliff retiring and him and Terry bolting town after working the PA angle to it's meaty end. Coming to WNY again made sense on a lot of levels. I think there is just a lot of disappointment at how flat the efforts have come up to get a winner here, and now that the 3 year honeymoon is over for both Pegula and his new toy, and the fans and Pegula....you see Pegula and Black saying, "he's just a regular owner.....it's just a game and hard to win....etc..." when they came in guns ablazin stating that this wouldn't be the normal ownership. They also said there was no interest in being a real estate developer. Now the fans are being told to forgive a crappy product which was supposed to be the sole purpose of his mission in Buffalo....and people are taking out full page ads and expecting us to kiss his bippy FOR being a real estate developer....meanwhile the last 3 Sabres broadcasts were an infomercial for the Webster Block as ticket prices were being raised again even though he would drill another well if he bought the team to make a profit. So when you see all this diversion from the actual product, I don't think it's faulty for someone to ask about motives in the fracking game. Like I said, I don't think it was his only purpose at all in buying the Sabres, but it sure seems like his passion for the team has cooled as the fans are told to suffer yet he's hosting politicians to advance his other business initiatives using the team and facilities as leverage. You can actually start dating a girl because you like her, but you may end up marrying her even though you end up never loving her because her parents are worth billions....... We want someone who is in love...not someone who tolerates us for the windfall in the pipeline so to speak. It's tough convincing us you have a headache for 2 straight years when you used to bring roses and BJ's to the table until we walked down the aisle.

The problem is.....Darcy tries to cool the drink 1 ice cube at a time. The glaring deficiencies of this team have been obvious going on 7 years now. We had a warm glass of tapwater sitting out in the sun on a 90 degree day....we lose our 2 captains, and 90% of our grit in the span of 12 months (Briere, Dumont, Drury, McKee, Grier, Pyatt)....oh, better extend Vanek to a crazy contract (icecube). Oh....we need to make sure we have centers so let's extend Connolly, Roy and Gaustad to overpriced contracts (a few icecubes).......oh, this team is horrible...we'll just let the young core develop and lead us (icecubes melt, drink goes from 90 degrees to 83 degrees...then back up to 90 as we wait for Darcy's chosen boys to develop).....team is still bad..oh hey, we got a monster D-man that is going to win the Calder and Miller is playing lights out because he's focused on the Olympics (icecubes).....we're going to win the division, but still flop in the 1st because there is no grit or playoff proven leaders...drink heats back up to 90.....whoops, this isn't going so well...maybe we need to go get a few free agents, force one of them to center and let Connolly walk (icecubes)...drink down to 80 again....oh no, the team still has no grit.....what did Lucic just do?....drink is back up to 95 now.......Man, maybe the core I overpaid for the past 5 years really isn't good enough and has no heart.....ok, let me move one of our midgets to center and trade our best power forward prospect in 2 decades for another skill player.....man, we still aren't good even though we are spending over the cap, handing out bonuses and burying guys all over the world and in minor hockey leagues......and this Lucic thing.....we need to be tougher to play against...let me trade our #1 center for some grit (icecube)......and I should keep a concussed German 3 years past his prime and with zero passion to back up my 2 soft centers.....but we should be tougher so i will sign the largest fighter I can find (icecube)..... This whole time, he waits 6-12 months to re-evaluate and make one move at a time.....just enough time to let that previous cube melt and the drink warms to piss water once again. Instead of having the vision to see and say..."It's hot as balls out......maybe I need to put a half bag of ice in a few pitchers, then fill it with water.....sure, there won't be as much water to drink at first, but soon the ice will start melting and turning into water...and there is so much ice that it will support the drink and keep it cold." He can't do that. Either he doesn't have the vision too, or is so scared about trying to keep his job that he doesn't want to take a bold enough chance to make the outcome obvious, sooner. So we are left thirsty all these years. A novice evaluator with limited hockey knowledge can look at Darcy as a case study and tell you he isn't a good manager. It's scary that the ownership here can't see it as well.
