60% of 25 million...15 million...figure 5 mil writeoff....10 million...12% in NYC? It's only 250K a year or so, but add in cap gains, homestead, etc....you can probably double that. I still have Florida interests, but the buggers in NY get my S-Corp pass through anyway. Oh...and add in property tax. A 200K home in a Buff suburb gets taxed like a 700K home in FL. Ugh....why am I here again? Oh yeah, the people and the booze. It sure ain't the sports teams at this point....

Usually mono comes with knee issues for 18 year olds......Heyooo!

I've been saying for years that at some point, Darcy is going to make Mason Raymond a Sabre. He is the posterboy for Darcy.

It's like trick-or-treating in the ghetto and trading away your 2nd best piece of candy at the end of the night. A dumb-dumb pop only fetches so much.......

Oh goodie!....every once in a while I enjoy group therapy....

I do have the tongue of an auctioneer...... Or did you mean Rochester?

I could probably get there.....but the 2 week lull in activity would probably lead to a quick shift. I am willing to see out my assignment however.....

Would you settle for once at 6 3/4?

OK...that makes a little more sense....move a soft Euro D off the roster, save $3 million, get a tough center and a Dman who has a shot to recover......Today has gone from C- to B-

Well...perfect draft for me. The team that always plucks failed power forwards from the Sabres, then hires who I feel is the best coach in the league while we get Ron-Rol, goes and trades a goalie to not only stymie the Sabres from trading Miller, but also goes and takes 1 of my 2 can't-miss guys in the draft who is a 2-way power forward, directly after the Sabres pass on him and take the 2nd coming of Henrik Tallinder. Then our division rival who improved leaps and bounds while having their 2 top players injured and we regressed, goes and takes the other can't miss forward who is pretty much Danny Gare with a 145 IQ, right after we took the 2nd coming of Dimitri Kalinin. I'm ok with it. Once again, all is right with the world, and I can take my projected luxury spending on Buffalo Sabres products, and plug it into booze and strippers. In an ironic note, at the arena, Jeff Musial pulled out a monkey out of her cage who proceeded to take a crap in her diaper at the exact moment Darcy was walking on stage.

After 5 years, they finally ordered up the echocardiogram?

I'm going to the arena for this. Nobody wants in, so look for the Kraig Urbik body double who is double fisting (beer), say hi, and your first beverage is on me. Ted is the gift that keeps on giving by the way.

Uncle Vito says that his guy brought Ted Black his eggs benedict this morning, and the most likely trade partners today are Edmonton, Anaheim, Columbus, Winnipeg and Calgary. Myers is being floated not to actually move to 5, but as leverage against Anaheim in a deal for Ryan. Stafford to Edmonton to move up 1 to make sure they get 1 of Lindholm, Monahan, or the Russian. Winnipeg is the wildcard. Maybe just out of the blue a Kane will play in Buffalo.....just the tan one.

Will we get a press release when Hank, the 63 year old usher in section 304 of the arena, gets selected to take tickets to the qualifying rounds at 200 Rubles an hour? I hope Gibby doesn't let Putin see his President's Trophy ring.

Anyone going?

Yeah, interesting to see the dynamics over the years. He did get out before the real bloodbath, but he took a real nice thumping. The overall economy has firmed, but the Canadian dollar has held pretty well against the US, Peg got their team, Phoenix is dead, Atlanta moved, the Islanders are shifting and got their arena, NJ now is in trouble.....Florida somehow stays afloat. I also can't believe I was quoting $4 beer prices! And on a sidenote....I'm having hell posting with the new Explorer browser. Can't hit return, italics jump for no reason, and every once in a while it is fine. Any suggestions?

Fun conversation from 5 years ago here. Funny seeing time fly. http://forums.sabrespace.com/topic/12878-youve-got-to-love-a-falling-us-dollar/

I like the soap operas on Telemundo. They come in handy sometimes.

My complaint?....Someone stealing the Brian Griese story.....

It's almost like girlfriend hunting......

So Chz.....what's the Sabres plan for the next 3 years?
-
In this case...yep! Really....how much fun would he have? I think the whole city would go bonkers. If we bring in 1 or 2 guys....it won't really help. You still have Darcy and crew selecting the players in the draft who are the true future. You still determine who is more valuable in FA to you, but you need to mass offer. You can't wait around and pick and choose. By pure numbers you should field a good team. So in reality Pegula is just giving the greenlight to spend and not make us Suffer for the shorterm. The plan still has to be Darcy getting the trades done and selecting the draftees. the FA is just automatic pilot.

How are they immovable? Who wants to move them? Teams are making up for huge mistakes and buying guys out of long contracts who were signed IN THEIR PRIME? Do you think the names I mentioned will be getting 5-7 year contracts? No way! They will be lucky to get 4.....which is the amount of time we have to wait on any draft picks to make an impact anyway. Should we sit back and SUFFER for 4 years while waiting, and maybe keep a Miller and Vanek who will be over the hill by that time themselves? Do we add 1 or 2 guys who will have their contracts expire anyway by then and not be nearly enough to help this team get anywhere close to contention? What is the CURRENT PLAN to contend the next 4 years? There is none! This would at least give you the chance to be entertained and get into the playoffs with guys who have all been to the dance before. You will have Foligno and Hodgson and Girgensons learning from Iginla, LeCavalier, Briere and Ott instead of Ott, Porter and Kaleta. This is a once in a lifetime chance. I'll give you an example.....I was at a charity function 10 years ago for the Joe DiMaggio children's hospital. His agent and some big hitters put together an old-timers game, and dinner the night before had hundreds of auction items. There was so much stuff there, and the majority of the people were socialites...not hardcore sports fans. There were a couple of neat items I liked that weren't too pricey. Then I noticed....there were 12 pieces by the same artist that were signed by the player and framed. I was high bid on the Yogi Berra, and close on the Willie Stargell. The prices were very reasonable....and then the idea came to me. I wasn't planning on buying all 12 or even close to it. I didn't even know they would be available and that there was so much good stuff and a limited amount of buyers there. You knew the autos were legit, and they were all framed nicely by the same place. When I saw what they were going for....I got the bright idea that it would make an amazing collection. Where else at one time could I get authentic stuff, all the same collection, ready to go right on the wall? I was only planning on Yogi and Willie....but Duke Snider was there, Bob Feller, Johnny Mize....not my favorites, but if I was willing to pay an extra $20, $30 from what I would have....I could get them. Then if I had 5...why not go for the whole shebang? Sure, I had to overpay for a few of them, but I got the Yaz...then the Enos Slaughter. By the time people figured out what I was doing, it was too late and I already had most of them. What was originally going to be a carefree night with a few $ going to charity and an open bar, turned into me getting the greatest bachelor pad display in history. The whole ended up being much neater and outdid the sum of the parts. I may have had to overpay for 1 or 2....but the collection ended up making it all worth it. I didn't have Pegula's black AMEX, but for modest means I was able to put together something I wasn't planning on in short order. The Sabres are doomed the next few years if we just do a little this and a little that. You don't change your longterm outlook, you just limit the short term suffering for your standings and your fans. Maybe not your checkbook....but let's see if Pegula is serious when he says he is willing to spend.
