  1. Didn't know that....huh. It's no Glory...but I like it. :P
  2. I think this is a great movie. It really gets into the world of big money and what it takes to get someone going....and the psych factors surrounding everyone. Plus lots of nice boobies....
  3. All we need to make this week of natural disasters complete is for the Sabres to sign Hecht tonight to boost their scoring.....
  4. I'm sure he won't as well.....but it is sad I actually was inspired to look up the record because of him. If we get to game #20 and he is around a -20, there will be an "injury", or they may just send him to the funny farm for some inpatient "skills coaching". Maybe we can still get Getzlaf for him?..........errrrrrrrr........
  5. So Myers is -4 in 3 games. Rolston has been hesitant to use him on penalty kill but plays him on the power play. There is nobody but Ehrhoff who would probably eat minutes over and above. This is truly an amazing record, and I'm pretty sure there is no way Myers can break it.....but given the first 3 games....I was inspired to look. That should tell you something.
  6. Yeah....there's no way I'm rolling all season. By the end of the month, whoever is in, is in, and I can just do periodic leaderboards.
  7. Good job wjag......you just took on thread duties. If I'm not in, feel free to set the line!
  8. I'm sure Marrone will be fine. I like him. I love the passion he shows as he watches plays unfold...he's a fan too. And again with the statistics....people act as if they are in a vacuum. There is matchups, momentum, field position, feeling, future potential decisions....all at play. 50% of marriages end in failure.....so why do people do it? I'm not sure who I want electroshocked more, "Advanced Statistics" people, or "Gluten Free"....although I assume the crossover is high....and I have no advanced statistics to tell me that. See how that works?.......
  9. Yeah...I think he has a propensity to learn, but so far it has been a little iffy. The good ones are always thinking 3 steps ahead. So no you DO have 3 timeouts and they DID get the ball back with time. Tuel has an arm that can get the ball 50-60 yards downfield as we saw with stonehands Graham. Someone needs to tell Hackett that when Cleveland is giving you the middle of the line of scrimmage and you have 3 TO's AND a QB who is deer/headlights, RUN the freaking draw!! You had 7-12 yards wide open. Just get to midfield with 25 seconds left and no TO's and you have 3 cracks at a hail mary. It's just as if Marrone makes the decision to preserve timeouts, then doesn't use them to his advantage. It's a war, not a video game. You can learn strategy even if it isn't innate.
  10. Manuel went ginger last week and slid 2 yards before the 1st to protect himself. He wasn't going to make the same mistake and it cost him this time. Marrone is not the best game strategist in the world, that's for sure. He is making 1 or 2 key blunders every week in clock management, rules, etc. Even last night...3 minutes left, Cleveland in 2nd and long, you have all 3 timeouts.....take the timeout there! There is a good chance they throw one of the next two downs. You still have 3 TO's with the 2 minute warning, and a good chance at a clock stoppage on an incompletion. He lets the clock go down to 2:10, and if they get the first down....you are in the same situation anyway...need to get them 3 and out. You either get it back with 1:10 and no TO's or 2:00 and no TO's. He just doesn't seem to have that innate clock management in his head, or thought out the 10-15 potential situations that could arise. He at least found out that it is stupid to run hurry-up when milking a lead.....but so far I am not impressed with some of the decisions that should be closer to no-brainers.
  11. Ok.....Game #2 Ottawa -125 Buffalo +105
  12. Oh...I'll play along for fun. Just wasn't touching yesterday's game.
  13. OK...can't do this every game, but since I'm here... Claude Veret $1500 Rayzer32 $1500 Cereal $1400 Nobody $1300 ChileanSeaBass $1200 TrueBluePhD $1200 MattiePie $1100 Hank $1100 Wjag $1100 mustacheofgod $900 TaroT $900 ThirtyEight $800 LGR4GM $800 tomwebster $800 cwchze $800 Rico7 $800 GlassPommerfan $500 skaught......ELIMINATED!!! but hang around....I will get a consolation round going after more people drop out sabresnipe...ELIMINATED!!! Alright...'til Friday......
  14. Feel free to bet on both teams......(hint, it's not like horseracing where you can bet on every horse and still make money). Awesome response so far....cool. We have 20 here already and the end of the month to see who else jumps in. Man....I just gave myself a mini-project. It will be fun though. I'll try my best to keep it rolling without glitches.
  15. Sorry, you're good. I was just trying to point out you can't wager all $1000 on Detroit, the favorites need to be bet to win multiples of $100. Just so the payout isn't $1540.54 I can verify w/l and bankroll quickly in round lots.
  16. Cool deal. This is sort of what I was hoping to see happen.
  17. OK....can't promise I will be able to post lines for every Sabres game, (especially when the quarterly bans happen), but I am going to whip a little something up here for fun. The idea is, everyone starts with a bankroll of $1,000 I will post the money line for each Sabres game. How this line works is that it is in increments of $100. The favorite is denoted by a minus (-), and the underdog is denoted by a plus (+). Sometimes both teams in a close matchup will be minus, but both will never be plus. Let's use tonight as an example. Detroit -185 Buffalo +165 This means that if you want to bet on Detroit, you have to wager in increments of $185 for each $100 you want to win. You bet $185, you end up with $285 if they win. If they lose, you are out $185. You bet in increments of $100 on the + team, so you would bet $100 on Buffalo, and if they win you end up with $265....your original $100 and the +$165. If you lose you are only down $100. You will be allowed to bet in even increments up to your total current bankroll, but not partial amounts. So let's say you want to go all-in on Detroit tonight. You can only win a maximum of $500 for a $925 wager. If successful, your new bankroll is $1500 going forward. If you lose, you are down to $75. If someone drops below $100, I will allow an all-in wager, but we are working with the $100 base otherwise. The winner at the end of the season is the person with the highest total bankroll. 1) You do not have to bet every game 2) You DO have to bet at least 1 game EVERY MONTH to be eligible for a prize. That's 7 bets minimum. 3) When you are at $0, you are out of the contest, although feel free to comment along with opinions 4) Please keep track of your own bankroll, and be on your honor. If we only have a few dozen doing this, I may keep a scoreboard of some sort, but I don't know if we will have 5, or 100 doing this. 5) Use any strategy you want. Go all-in early or only on a few games...go fairly small on every game....mix and match....whatever is the most fun or most worthwhile to you. Just make sure to wager at least once a month to stay alive. 6) As the season winds down, the last few weeks I may allow those still mathematically alive to private message me their wagers the day of the game, up until a set time before faceoff. Call this the Final Jeopardy method. Who knows, someone may have this wrapped up with 20 games left. We may have 20 people alive with 5 games left. This can go a myriad of ways. 7) My decisions are final. I don't expect any goofiness, but if someone is editing after the puck drops, or looks to be trying to pull a fast one, I will pull the plug on them. I'm not going to pop someone for simple math mistakes, especially early on when someone may be trying to get the hang of the line and format. 8) I will try to set the line the night before the game, or early the day of. Whatever the line I set is, that's what it is. It will not shift. If the actual Vegas line moves and you want to try and take advantage, feel free. If I fail to set a line for a game, then that game is off the table. All lines will be put in this thread. 9) Prize will be awarded to the person with the largest bankroll at the end of the regular season. There may also be prizes awarded for other things such as most correct wagers, best %, longest streak, etc.....but we will see how big the player pool is before I get all Santa Clausy. The winner with the largest bankroll will receive a Game Worn Sabres Jersey. 10) Good luck, and please point out anything that I may have missed That being said.....tonight's official line is: Detroit -185 Buffalo +165 Again, you can put in wagers in increments of $185 to win $100 on Detroit, or in increments of $100 to win $165 on Buffalo. If Detroit wins tonight, the highest possible bankroll will be $1500. If Buffalo wins, the highest possible bankroll will be $2650.
  18. Chicago and LA in the West, hands down. Maybe a STL can sneak in to the finals, but I think those 2 are the class...........In the East, Montreal is going to keep progressing. I say the Rangers and MTL in the east, with New Jersey being the surprise this year and my wildcard. Boston and Pitt will be competitive, but I don't see either in the Finals. Winnipeg is also a deep wildcard, but they either make a move this year or it won't happen..............The Sabres? Look at the lineup....every line and D pairing is a minus. Vanek/Hodgson/Stafford/Myers/Ehrhoff....ok 2nd..crappy 1st. Ott/Ennis/Lieno/Weber/Pysyk.....ok 3rd, crappy 2nd.........Grigs/Girg/Foligno/Tallinder/Risto......maybe a 2nd in 2-3 years....now? Then the filler.........Miller will be ok, but if things start going downhill early, he will lose focus.......Scoring leaders? I fully expect Hodgson to be injured this year, especially on the heels of a bad team come game 25-30 or so......in all honesty, I see both Vanek and Miller traded because I expect the team to tank early.....I'm guessing 14 points in the first 20-22 games........Ott for scoring leader. Sabres lucky to hold off Florida in the division.
  19. Did you ever get to see Johnny Bench in Buffalo?
  20. No....I'm saying, dump the body.
  21. Understood. But for a guy that sulks and has confidence issues to begin with, how efficient of a decision is it to strip him and still rely on him as a top line player? Just take the F'r fishing and throw the body in the lake.....please!
  22. It is a typical Sabres, Mich Ultra decision.......but at least they got the right guys. In all honesty, if you are going to water down the honor, there was a way to incorporate the young guys too and not embarrass Stafford. You could have said Vanek C at home with Ehrhoff and Hodgson A's, and Ott C on road with Weber and Stafford A's. This way when Vanek or Ott or Stafford move.....you have the chain of command in effect. I'm fine with this though....at least it's 3 guys.
