Thanks for pointing that out. Everyone needs to make at least 1 wager per month to stay active for the grand prize. -

If it were for Easter, I'd say PAAS.

Best episode ever. So wrong, but hysterical.

Interesting.... He is very tight with Ron Jaworski. Not that Jaws has giant cash, but he has some local flavor. I was on a long flight a few years ago with Jaws' sister who is big in his business ventures. I was teasing about having to deal with Bon Jovi, as they owned the arena team together. She raved about his passion and business acumen for the game. She was a sharp cookie herself. Granted that didn't turn out so well!......but I can see some legs to the idea just from the few hours we talked. I'd assume it would be a pretty big syndicate of ownership if Bon Jovi is involved.

That was fun to watch. Don't give up. You never know what will spring her. I used to work at a library and the kids would pop balloons with a book title inside then get a prize when they came and gave a verbal book report after reading the story. If the children's librarian was on break, I'd get to cover. One little guy who would come in with his sister and grandma was similar in that he didn't speak much at all. By the end of the summer, he would talk with me with just a few words, and his grandma was in tears telling me how much that meant to the family. One of the coolest things I've ever felt in my life. I guess having the mentality of a 5 year old myself, helped. Now if I only had the same effect on the 18-25 female demographic........ You never know.

I'm willing to recreate this scene with you for the good of the board if you're willing to push the wagon.

I think what we have seen is that the fanbase which was clinging onto Myers as being the franchise defenseman, have given up hope early this year and needed to elevate someone beyond actual performance in the name of hope. Just the fact that someone suggested a trade for a probable top 5 pick shows this. In reality, you could probbaly get a 2nd and a middling prospect for Pysyk. The kid needs some hair on his chest and stewing in the crock pot. I like him, but be realistic.

Not only would I take it, I'd throw in a 2nd and a 3rd to them. Assuming you get a top 8 pick.

Not at all. he seems like a 10-12 year quality guy you can plug in and be ok both ways. The kid seems good spirited and smart. I just hope he gets a little more confidence in his body and works guys over a little more. I don't expect a bulldozer, just take a little initiative.
-
He takes good angles and is sound positionally, but he is far from a finished product. He reminds me a lot of Darryl Shannon. Probably tops out at a #3-5. Nice player to have though.

I'm a lot more excited about this project now that they are taking the hockey team seriously. Now you can hang out at the sports bar and see if any decent tickets pop up outside. If not, watch the game at the bar. -

I know...just having fun with it. Also, most of the money on Buffalo came with people blowing their wads the first 4 or 5 games. -

Miller is still assuming he is leaving given his interview last night. He pretty much said he doesn't trust that the team is going to keep the effort level up over time. He needs to see it. He also admitted he pretty much was playing the season for himself to this point. If he still wants to go, then you have 80% of the rebuild done anyway. Figure you get another late first and a second a year or two out. Ott is probably more important at this point to help nurture young guys. There is no reason to ever try and bottom out in this league. You just have to be smart as to when to sell and when to buy. The team has been so depleted of gritty leaders for so long, if you want to truly change the culture, you need to add them. That doesn't mean spending $30 million on guys, but if you think the kids will figure it out on their own, you almost never get there. They will still most likely pick top 5. They have a bunch of added picks the next 2 years. It's more about identifying who to cut bait with at elevated salaries. Myers, Stafford, Lieno and Tallinder alone take up $18 million. Let's see what they do for the next 15 games. That's the problem. The Sabres have spent and tied guys up while having their values in trades evaporate. Even if you try and move Hodgson at this point, his contract probably turns off half the teams in the league. Just knowing Lafontaine then hearing him talk this week, there isn't a long period of no playoffs expected. I expect them to still be net sellers the rest of the year, getting a top 5 pick, then targeting a few gritty vets in the offseason through trade and FA in the mid tier of $3-6 million to help the kids continue the culture change, and I can see them spending close to the cap next year and internally expecting the team to compete for a playoff spot. There are still these bad contracts though. That's what they need to sort out the next 2 months before we know how realistic any plan is. If you got the consistent effort and style of last night from the bad contracts, they aren't horrible and you can add and subtract at the same time, making it a competitive team next year. If the consistency isn't there, then you use your buyouts and eat salary in trades just to clear the decks. My guess is that Patty fully expects this team to be a Stanley Cup contender in 3 years. It can happen. We are so used to sitting on our hands as not to get burned that people forget how good hockey guys operate with aggressiveness and decisiveness.
