Can the Sabres Franchise Survive Another Tank/Rebuild?
fiftyone replied to GASabresIUFAN's topic in The Aud Club
That's fair I guess, I just don't know how to be a sports fan that way. And again, losing interest in the (Sabres) wasn't really my target -- it was choosing another team to root for and then coming back to the Sabres. Semantics, maybe. -
Can the Sabres Franchise Survive Another Tank/Rebuild?

I'm not talking about deciding to not pay money to see the product (go to games, buy jerseys, even spend large amounts of time to watch). That certainly happens and I can sympathize, I do it too. But to go root for another team when yours is struggling, then come back when it's not is a foreign concept to me. That's how I took the scenario that the OP laid out, and that's why my original comment discussed sticking with one team as opposed to changing teams. -

You're right, I probably worded that poorly. It doesn't bother me any if people treat sports and their teams that way. It just feels a lot less fulfilling to me if you only participate in the ups and pretend like you don't care on the downs. How good can the ups really be if you view it like that? -

And this is a problem. Excuse the holier-than-thou approach but.. if you hop off the wagon when things are tough, don't bother coming back when they're good again. -

Maybe it's just me, but I don't really view sports fandom as a decision that evolves over time. Once you're a fan of a team, you're a fan of a team. I'm not really of the opinion that that changes due to the performance of the team. I may be alone in that, but I suspect I'm not. -
Unfortunately this does not fit the narrative that's been created around here. We're going to have to just pretend you didn't post that and move on.

I think i generally agree with this especially at the top of the round. If you're drafting 1OA, you probably need so much that it's not worth passing on the "best" player to fill a positional need.

Kelly Pegula designed a Sabres hat and ... wow. Just wow.
fiftyone replied to Eleven's topic in The Aud Club
The last one is pretty awful IMO. The first one isn't winning any contests either. -
Interesting that he said something along the lines of "you won't see him driving a line, but he's a good complementary player" when talking about Eklund. How many top 3 picks do you say that about? I get it that not all top 5s are first line stars, but that line was a little underwhelming.

Sounds like Maxim Afinogenov. Tantalizing talent but frustrating the hell out of the fans more often than not.

Eichel's Agent Says Team/Player Heading Toward "Resolution"
fiftyone replied to Hoss's topic in The Aud Club
Okay. But do you think the Sabres are exploring trading him and are deciding they're not getting a fair return? Or that they're not entertaining the idea at all? -

Because the Sabres aren't getting offers they're satisfied with or because they simply want to improve the team around him? -
What you're saying might be right, but I just watched that video and didn't see any evidence of it there...
-
Who is the guy talking about "phases" and the "big defenseman" in his questions? Doesn't sound like he's all that plugged in to the situation.
-
I have to say that after weeks of silence on the Eichel front, these responses to questions about him leave a lot to be desired.
-
Agreed. The bones of something might be there, but I don't think Philly even considers that deal as-is.
-
So the Sabres have publicly (or at least privately?) admitted that they're dealing Jack? I know that's been the prevailing thought among the fanbase for weeks now, but nothing so concrete from the team. Not that they'd come out and say it necessarily, but that didn't seem to be so clearly the plan when KA last spoke publicly.
-
If our plan is to dismantle the team, i'd have a hard time giving up assets for a placeholder goalie. Signing someone like Driedger, sure -- but not sure about a trade.
-
Have your visions ever been right before?
-
Maybe not given those criteria, but his value now is a helluva lot higher than it was only 12 months ago.

Miles Wood is a Lindy Ruff kind of guy, I don't see it happening. Especially for a player that, based on everything he has said in his career, will likely bail once he becomes a UFA in 12 months.

Given Risto's attitude toward rebuilding and playing for an organization with no success, I can't see the Devils being willing to give up much for him considering he only has 1 year left on his deal.
