But there isn’t any certainty with coaches. You can’t just plug in coach X into any team and make the playoffs because he made the playoffs 5 out of the last 7 years with team Y. It just doesn’t work like that. These things are fluid. Ultimately, as I’ve pounded my self anointed podium, it comes down to the players. I don’t think the current mix is anywhere near a cup contender. Lindy could probably get these guys into the postseason but they need to mix up their lineup. Too many danglers, not enough other aspects to the game.

Let’s make the playoffs first, then we can worry about how far they go. There isn’t some magic formula these “wizards” as some people are attributing to Cup winning coaches. They just push buttons. Some of them get it right, some of them don’t. You move on until you find one that works. Otherwise there would be only a dozen coaches in the history of the league. They all just kept winning cups because of the magic they performed. 🙄

And amazingly, when he had good players, they made the playoffs.

Seth Appert, much like every coach in the history of coaches, is good because he’s had good players. The Amerks have a better roster this year than the decade of 2010-2020 combined.

NHL coaches are a dime a dozen. They work out for a few years, then they don’t and get fired. Happens to all of them. Glad we got a guy that’s done it. Better than the last 5 hires. He knows the league, the players and the GM. The Sabres could have done way worse. All these guys parrot the same stuff, just with a different voice. Maybe he works out, maybe he doesn’t. Now they need to work on the roster.
