  1. “Employed” being the operative word. The major flaw in our ability to control illegal entry into the country has been our refusal to go after the employers who give illegal immigrants jobs. Jobs, btw, that have shown over and over to be jobs that most Americans find undesirable. If we spent half the time going after employers hiring illegal immigrants than we do elsewhere, much of the issue would be under control. But I think we all know why that won’t happen, which I why I think this issue has always been about dividing the electorate more than anything else.
  2. Virtually impossible IN HIGH DENSITY POPULATIONS when it comes to extremely virulent pathogens. You conveniently leave that out when quoting my words. And yes, you are confused. You keep reading into things that aren’t there. People don’t need government mandates to isolate and I never said they did. For crissakes, we do that all the time when it comes to things as uncomplicated as the common cold. Public health agencies, at all levels; local, state, and federal play an important role in the dissemination of information and they ARE the best source of information on pandemics because that’s where the data is compiled and evaluated by the medical experts in the field. I happen to respect that, you don’t. Let’s move on. The CDC and NIH were the two preeminent organizations of their kind in the world and every, EVERY other organization of their kind around the world depended on their expertise at one time or another. Indeed, every major facility around the world sent their best to learn here. But for some reason this regime is intent on ruining these great institutions and setting us back for who knows how long. For the first time since the creation of the NIH and CDC, we will be dependent on other countries for such vital scientific and medical expertise. And nobody should be comfortable with that.
  3. Jack Quinn.
  4. More like he looks like he’s simply in awe of the players around him.
  5. I’m sorry, I meant Red White and Blue Land.
  6. We need Canada as a staging ground for our invasion of Greenland.
  7. Östlund with the OT winner to get the Amerks back on track. 4-3 over Utica
  8. Farcical.

  10. Speaking of measles, this may be a microcosm of what may be in store with the lying RFK Jr. calling the shots on public health policy. https://apple.news/AkspdFboOTa6XdWWG87F98w
  11. I’d laugh if it weren’t so phucking serious.
  12. Of course people isolated. I never said they didn’t. For some reason, you keep insisting on making this about covid, while I am simply making the point that under this new regime, vital public health information will be limited, if made available in the first place. We saw a huge indication of that yesterday with the dismissal of key personnel at the CDC.
  13. One would think Congress would have enough members with integrity not to let him do that, but then again, the GOP in Congress don’t know the meaning of the word anymore.
  14. Our only hope is that our military men and women, of all ranks, insist on keeping their first oath to the Constitution and have the courage and fortitude to counterman illegal orders as is their responsibility. Because it couldn’t be more obvious that we are headed for trouble with the current leadership in this country and we will need them to intervene on our behalf sooner or later.
  15. Trump is one bitter mother phucker. He and his fascist henchmen continue to make us and the rest of the world unsafe.
  16. Nobody has ever accused dems, especially California dems, of not being totally clueless at times. That said, there is legitimate concern about non criminals getting swept up as well. Illegally entering our country can be either a felony or misdemeanor, depending on whether it’s a first offense or not. And we’ve already seen ICE raids that have mistakenly targeted US citizens already. I mean some Karen alerted officials because a lady, a US citizen, was speaking Spanish for crissakes.
  17. IMO, we cannot give back enough to veterans and their families. So I hope as you do that these new policies don’t impact you and others who’ve more than earned our support. But I’m not certain that these new policies won’t hurt veterans in some way, shape or form, regardless. Nor can I just ignore that 30% of the federal government workforce is comprised of veterans. There are 2.4 million federal workers and that 30% represents 720,000 employees who are veterans. I hope the Trump/DOGE cuts in staffing across the federal workforce doesn’t impact them too severely.
  18. Caved? Please show me where Newsom ever disagreed with deporting criminals. He’s disagreed with the dem legislature on this issue in the past. Caved? Hardly. More like stuck to his guns on the issue.
  19. More than OK with it, I’d say. There’s a reason those times were referred to as The Velvet Revolution.
  20. I implied no such thing. It is simply a fact that in high density populations, isolation is extremely difficult when it comes to super virulent pathogens. That fact has nothing to do with mandates at any level of government.
  21. Sorry about the pay wall as I used my one free remaining article. It did not pertain to the Hiring Freeze EO of 1/20, only to the cuts and hiring freezes at the Dept. of Veterans Affairs targeted by DOGE and how that will impact veterans who depend on those vital services. IIRC, it mentioned a subsequent memo regarding the EO which said that any exemptions to the hiring freeze must be approved by the OPM and Secretary of Veterans Affairs.
