  1. ^This. Police departments need to look like the communities they serve, not like an invading army. That said, they also need to police on an even playing field and unfortunately, with the unlimited proliferation of easily obtainable semi automatic assault weapons in this country, they might need these weapons just to have the best chance.
  2. Hmm. I don’t think the Sabres can guarantee he will be a part of the Sabres. They can guarantee an opportunity but that’s about it. Can they give him a really fat contract to play for the Amerks if he can’t make the show?
  3. I imagine these horrific events can be even more sobering for some gun owners. It speaks well of you that you can examine your conscience on these matters when so many immediately get defensive and shut down. Regarding the conversation about letting this destroy our rights, it’s a common bull crap canard thrown out by many in the aftermath of these events. Simple truth is, common sense gun laws would do absolutely nothing to threaten 2A rights. Nothing in the least. But 2A has become so bastardized, especially over the last 20 years, and so many politicians bought and paid for by certain lobbying efforts, that people don’t even consider what they’re saying on the matter.
  4. Hey, @pastajoehow are you holding up today? You good?
  5. You mean that the salute to military month, all the camo gear, fly overs, and patriotic fervor isn’t a genuine organic event put forth by the NFL? I’m stunned at this revelation. Stunned I tell you.
  6. I find it beyond ironic that Abbott is gonna speak at the NRA convention in Houston and it’s NO GUNS ALLOWED. One would think they’d be celebrating the very freedom that he signed into law.
  7. Heard from a relative of one of the first cops to reach the scene at Tops and what he described is beyond horrific. Said he will need lots of time and therapy as a result of what he came upon when entering the store. Perhaps some of these hand sitters that insist on doing nothing should be made to see what brain matter oozing from blown out eye sockets actually looks like. Abbott and Cruz should be taken to the scene of dead children that can’t be identified facially and forced to look at the carnage. Texas politicians, who made it possible for anyone 18 or older to walk into a store, purchase a semi automatic assault rifle, multiple 30 round clips and then openly carry these weapons without a license, have blood on their hands. Every F ing one of them who voted in favor of this insane policy.
  8. Thanks for the play by play. Now I’ll have to rely on @pastajoefor updates and, frankly, I’m afraid to click on his posts in this thread.
  9. Too bad we can’t read about 213 incidents of people being saved by a gun in the first 145 days of the year vs. 213 mass shootings in the first 145 days of the year.
  10. Are you happier about the goal more than you’re sad about clearing the D zone?
  11. I’d take Marner, Connor, or Barzal at number two and in that order. Then Werenski and Rantanen.
  12. Would it surprise you to learn that the majority of gun owners are in favor of banning assault rifles and other sensible gun laws? That’s been the case for decades, too.
  13. I’m well aware you live in Texas and that you know better than anybody just what kind of evil you’re dealing with when it comes to Abbott, Cruz, and that entire Texas tyranny. I was merely saying that the word “irrational” didn’t suffice when describing what kind of hope you’d need to think they’d do a damn thing to try to fix this uniquely American issue.
  14. Per the bold, it’s estimated that there are 120.5 guns per 100 people in the US. In Canada it’s 34.7 guns per 100 people. I’d say we have good reason to think there’s a reasonable chance to be threatened by a gun here.
  15. Irrational hope? More like all out crazy hope. Abbott and Co. are advocating arming teachers as the solution. Any thought of them doing anything constructive about the problem is nuts. This is a state where it’s legal to open carry an assault rifle. And you don’t even NEED a license to do it. Gotta love Texas. Make it hard for people to participate in democracy, make it easy to carry killing machines.
  16. The Australian NFA has been a success. Creative solutions are out there. We just need the political will to implement them.
  17. I don’t know Ink, I suspect those Monday night skivvies are full of bad mojo…among other things.
  18. What’s the underwear color of choice tonight? A bold chartreuse perhaps?
  19. Bottom of the ninth, do or die, there’s no tomorrow, win or go home, fat lady is starting to hum.
  20. This uniquely American problem will not be dealt with in any meaningful way until we stop electing politicians who refuse to do anything about it. As Scalia opined in Heller and as others have since it was written, the 2nd Amendment is not an unlimited right. Regardless of the bastardized interpretations otherwise. All semi-automatic assault rifles, high volume clips, and body armor need to be banned. Anyone seeking to purchase a firearm must pass a rigorous background check, regardless how long it takes to conduct. All firearms must be registered and licensed in the state it was purchased. And like driver’s licenses, if you move to another state, you must then register that firearm in your new state of residence. Also like cars, all guns must carry mandatory insurance policy minimums. A minimum age limit should be imposed. Anyone purchasing a gun must enroll in a mandatory training and safety course to be eligible for a license to be issued. Licenses should have term limits and be renewed periodically again, just as we with a license to drive. And before any flag waving, pocket Constitution carrying gun nut wishes to set me straight, please know I’m not interested in any of your late night theoretical college dorm discussions on the “intent” of the Founders. I simply don’t care and don’t give a flying ***** about discussing the issue any further. Enough talk.
  21. Admittedly, I have not been watching. But still, …
