  1. Long story short, Slafkovsky gives the puck away and Savoie heads back up ice with it. I see nothing special at all in that play.
  2. I think many of us were feeling the same way until @PromoTheRobotsaved the day.
  3. I don’t share your pessimism. I just can’t ever count Aaron Rodgers out.
  4. How did you feel last year when they lost 38-3 vs the Saints in the season opener? Don’t know if they’ll go 13-3 again, but as long as they have a healthy AR, then I expect them to right the ship and win the division again.
  5. Didn’t mean to imply things were bad under John Butler so know that I don’t feel that way and never have. Sorry if I wasn’t clear on that point previously. Poor wording on my part. The worst thing I can say about him is that his loyalty resulted in an untenable cap situation eventually. I have a ton of respect for what John Butler accomplished in this league. Did a lot of video work for him at various times and know what a great football mind he was. Like I said, I have no intention of re-litigating Brandon’s tenure with the Bills. There’s a ton of myth out there and any light I might shed would simply be dismissed, anyway. Understandable for the average fan to feel that way given the team’s struggles during those years. I’ll say this though, two of the best personnel minds the game has seen thought highly of his diligence and grasp of personnel related issues. The fact that they took the time to spend so much time with him in the film room and at various league meetings over those eight years speaks to that as well. They certainly didn’t view him as “just the marketing guy.”
  6. Towards the end, Brandon had to go as he made himself a toxic entity. I agree he probably should have gone sooner. And I agree it was a mistake to have him involved with the Sabres. But I can’t speak personally to his time with the Sabres. I’ll just say I have reason to disagree with the rest of it as it pertains to his time with the Bills and leave it at that because I don’t want to re-litigate his entire tenure with the team. I will just say that shortly after he arrived in ‘97, he became joined at the hip to John Butler and then Tom Donahoe after that. We can denigrate them because their W-L record wasn’t much to write home about, but they were two of the best football personnel minds in the business for many years prior. Brandon, even though his marketing strategies immediately produced new revenues for the team and were successful, knew a lot more than just marketing after those eight years with those two.
  7. Whaley and Brandon preceded the Pegulas by years. I understood and appreciated the core of your original post. I was just clarifying that the Pegulas only made one bad mistake with the hiring of Rex Ryan as opposed to several. Perhaps it could be argued they made a mistake by retaining both Brandon and Whaley, but I saw the value in keeping them aboard at the time. Especially Brandon, who had cultivated numerous key relationships around the league, including NFL offices in NY, over his 17 year tenure at that point. Terry and Kim relied on him a lot early on as new owners in the league. And they wasted no time in jettisoning Whaley shortly after giving Rex the axe, anyway.
  8. Pegula made one hiring mistake; Rex Ryan. His next hiring decisions more than made up for that as we’ve witnessed.
  9. And JA has kept all the receipts, too. He says they fuel him. But I like how he explained that by saying he’s not out to prove those people wrong, he’s out to prove that he’s right.
  10. I had to watch that twice to fully appreciate what he did there.
  11. I don’t think there are many players on the Sabres that don’t handle it as we’ve seen several that respond appropriately by sticking up for their teammates and who are willing to drop the gloves if need be. I haven’t seen much backing down lately, even if it means getting their ***** kicked in a fight. I think that counts for a lot on the ice and in the locker room.
  12. Looking forward to a great problem to have if they all play up to those expectations.
  13. Great stuff. Thanks for the edification. Much appreciated.
  14. It’s shameful that these radical right wing republicans defend this. Then again, the Republican Party is beyond shameless at this point.
  15. I don’t see any of that on the spotrac site. I don’t subscribe so maybe I don’t have complete access to all the relevant info? Or if you have a more reliable source than spotrac I’d be interested in checking it out. Cap is defiantly gonna go up as you said. Several new sources of streaming revenue virtually guarantees that.
  16. I doubt Milano goes anywhere. He was extended prior to hitting free agency last year and is locked up thru 2024 with dead cap hits of 8.6m in ‘23 and 5.6m in ‘24.
  17. No. Not at all. Shocked, but not surprised. How’s that?
  18. I would also add he has a very poised approach to the game. He seems to think the game rather well.
  19. I appreciate everyone telling me he isn’t going to make the team as if I made that assertion in the first place. My realistic expectation is that he won’t. But, like I said, I won’t be surprised in the least if he does.
  20. Not saying he’s gonna make the team, but I won’t be surprised in the least if he has a great camp and preseason and threatens to. But I appreciate where you’re coming from.
  21. He strikes me as the type of player who is gonna make it difficult to deny him the opportunity and given DG’s propensity to reward performance with opportunity, I agree he’s gonna make it a difficult decision. Nice problem to have.
  22. I wouldn’t be surprised if he threatens to make the team out of camp.
  23. Early Vezina favorite after the first three weeks of the season before the wheels fall of for various reasons.
