  1. Gotta love a black screen with the scoreboard and game clock.
  2. How about RJ’s first 35 years that preceded his last decade and a half? Did that pbp excellence earn him some credibility with his audience? Did it establish an endearing legacy that, even though we all knew his best days were behind him as he aged, allowed us to overlook his gaffes in the booth in his later years? Please. It’s a crime to even mention RJ’s name in the same sentence as DD’s.
  3. I describe it as slow and unable to keep up with the action on the ice well enough to paint an accurate picture for those not able to watch on tv.
  4. A TV call on radio cannot work. It’s impossible, especially with someone as slow on the call as DD, who has chronic problems keeping up with the sheer speed of the play. And that’s when he even bothers to do the actual pbp instead of blabbering on about something irrelevant to the action. Per the bold, it’s not about what the game deserves, it’s about what the listening audience deserves. Night in, night out. Regardless how good the team is, regardless of the magnitude of the game. If DD purposely can’t summon the excitement for a routine game, then he is holding his audience in contempt, imo. That said, everyone can have a bad night now and then and I wouldn’t hold that against a good pbp guy, except I wouldn’t know if DD is having a bad night or not given what I think of his ability in the first place. But again, that’s not his problem. His problem is that he is simply too slow and can’t keep up with the action well enough to give even a halfway decent picture of the action to his radio audience. His best work is as a feature reporter. He’s good at that. It’s not his fault he just doesn’t have the requisite play by play chops the job requires.
  5. Whether a team is good or not should have no bearing at all on a pbp announcer’s ability to do his job. And if that’s the case with DD, he should be fired immediately. He owes his best to the fans, regardless.
  6. We need to cut them some slack here. It’s an in-house, closed circuit tv signal being streamed over the internet. There is no TV production team, no chyronographics, no tv audio, etc.
  7. He’s utterly incapable of keeping up with the play. Case in point was when he was describing the puck battle below the Philly goal line, 5 seconds elapse, and his very next play by play is something about Buffalo now backing up and watching the Flyers bring it over the Sabres blue line. I mean WTF happened between the puck battle below the Philly goal line and the Flyers entering the Sabres zone. Brutal.
  8. They were 6-1 in one score games in 2020 with pretty much the same cast of characters as 2021/2022.
  9. Myopia is a word that comes to mind.
  10. He’s a feature reporter only. Been saying it since he came here, he literally cannot keep up with the play. If you have to rely on radio play by play only, you’re screwed.
  11. Comrie and Suban for Blue, UPL and Anderson for Gold. I think Subban was the goalie that Dahlin scored on, so it looks like Comrie pitched a shutout during his stint.
  12. Like Lindy always said, “Let’s roll four.”
  13. I heard that Matthew Pegula is demanding that Adams, Karmanos, and all the scouts run the team based on EA NHL 23 algorithms.
  14. Son of the owners and one of the heirs to succession learning the family business. This is not at all uncommon in pro sports. In fact it’s the norm for owners and/or team executives with children. Also, does it occur to anyone that Matthew Pegula was invited to be in the room at the table?
  15. Tough place to play, but you’d think a savvy hockey media market would know better.
  16. Your dedication to all things Buffalo sports, from high school to college to pro, is commendable. Well done, Promo.
  17. Much to the detriment of the viewing and/or listening audience. Especially the listening audience because when you don’t have the video to add context to whatever DD is trying to describe, the listener is lost.
  18. Dunleavy can’t keep up with the play. It’s been his problem since he got here.
  19. Maybe Adams, Karmanos, Granato et al know what they’re doing after all.
  20. Same here when it comes to what I’d seen of him prior to these two games. But I can see what went into those highlight videos; his hard work all over the ice. Players like that, who don’t cheat the game, are rewarded more often than not. I suspect he’s gonna be a pain in the butt to play against and I can’t wait to see him with the big club.
  21. Glad Rob Ray sees the same thing I do when watching Savoie; he’s always finding open ice because he keeps moving his feet and working his butt off to find it. Impressed with the motor on this kid.
