I continue to read all this post about hiring a President of hockey ops, hiring experienced people etc, etc. History, however, suggests, there is no blue print. The top teams in the league now hired first time general managers, first time nhl coaches, only added POH when they needed to retain a valued assistant. Done went the experienced route. Carolina has been one of the best franchises for awhile now and is run by one of the most meddling owners in sports. In the NFL, the Rams borrowed a page from the Sabres and gutted their scouting department and emphasize video scouting and now they have one of the most successful drafting records in the league and their front office ok we people are in high demand.

Verret was a typical AHL star who just wasn’t good enough for the NHL, similar to Jody Gage, Mal Davis and others. On top of that, he was very small and guys of his stature weren’t given much of a chance pre-2005.

I think Cozens is destined to be a good, useful piece that good teams need. He just can’t be one of your top three(3) go to guys.

I think them signing Greenway and Zucker to extensions played a big part in Dahlin’s sentiment. Cozens was more beaten down than not wanting to be here.

I meant cap room. Even if they go crazy and give stupid contracts to their RFA’s they will still have $7/$8M available plus whatever player they subtract. They will definitely add to the roster which obviously means they will subtract as well.

Peterka has been rumored as the “big piece” for about a month for three reasons; 1) he can bring a good return 2) they feel Rosen could replace him 3). He apparently is not a big fan of living in WNY

While making no judgements on any posters and being of the mind that Dylan Cozens hasn’t progressed as expected and may never be worthy of his contract, I have to say that I’m always amused when people talk about analytics and act like it’s an absolute science with universally accepted data. If that was the case then 98 percent, of front office staff positions would be out of work. Most of the data is open to interpretation. Each analytics department has numbers they rely on. Even within those departments, there is debate as to which numbers matter, what really is the cause and effect and which players will improve and which won’t. I just needed to say that. There are teams that absolutely love Cozens and while some of these teams might be “dumb,” they’ve overcome this “dumbness” to be solidly in the playoff race and believe he could help them in said playoffs.

I’m going to renewal but it looks like one of the guys that buys ten of my games is out so I’ll be looking to replace them. i still enjoy the social aspect and the seats are too good to give up, at least at this point.

I don’t mind people having a difference of opinion with me but I take offense to the implication that I made up something. All you have to do is google “Sabres hire Krueger “ and you will see him described as “innovative” @well thought of” etc.

I know this is almost universally accepted but as I have said numerous times, only the Adams hire was completely out of left field. Every other hire was someone that was considered a top candidate and most on the leagues “short list” of recommended hires. Krueger was the most “controversial “ hire and he was applauded by a significant portion of the league hierarchy, most of whom thought he got a raw deal in Edmonton. There is no doubt it has been disaster, and I have my opinion why, but making unorthodox hires, is not what caused the lack of success.

Yeah, I’m with Promo on this. I can think of few examples were a QB has taken a bad team and made them good or made a good team great. Maybe a good team to very good or a very good team to great but not good to great.

My first grandchild just turned one and she has more Bills stuff than me. Nothing better then when you realize you helped raise(my main role was choosing two great wives) four great human beings all destined to be better and smarter and especially nicer then their father. That is, nothing better except grandchildren. Congratulations and enjoy, it’s awesome.

On one hand, if I look at it as Lindy’s first year, I should be filled with optimism. They have fixed their first period issues, they are now number four in five on five scoring, number eleven in goals per game and are the youngest team in hockey. They should be able to fix the lingering issues. On the other hand, it feels like I’ve said the same thing since Adams took over and I have come to believe he has no idea how to take the extra parts and turn them into a true team instead of a collection of prospects and young talent. And all of this is further diminished by the belief that the owner still hasn’t proven that he will do whatever it takes to end this cycle. And finally, I can’t believe that a sixty five year old guy living a fairly blessed life still gives a damn and just wasted another five minutes thinking enough to write this.

I think people are going to be surprised at the return they get for Sammy. There are still old school people running teams throughout the league and his name comes up often.

I’m not so sure what’s so bizarre? All national sports networks regularly have insiders discussing trade scenarios.

We have such great seats, it’s hard to give them up. However, our group has gone from a high of 16 seats all the way down to 8 and it may go lower. A lot will depend on if they get serious and hire a new GM.
