  1. I'm not sure anyone can argue this at this point. I do think it is a little crazy to be drawing any kind of conclusions yet. It will be a good two years before anyone really knows if this new front office was a stroke of genius or just a PR move.
  2. Now don't put words in my mouth. I think they serve a purpose and can even serve a significant purpose. The problem, to use an old cliche, is that for some, a little knowledge can be a dangerous thing.
  3. This analysis is why I question almost every single person who considers himself an "authority" on analytics. They undervalue what they consider to be insignificant differences. The funny part is that these same people will tell you that every team should have an analytics department because with parity, attention to detail and even the slightest advantage can change the course of a season.
  4. He seems ready to pull the trigger but also found it interesting that he wasn't sure when Islanders had to decide on deferment but assumed that it was well before draft.
  5. Didn't say I thought it would happen. Since you brought up probabilities while I am in the mood, however, the one thing that intrigues me about all this analytics and other people that spout probabilities and statistics is that I wonder how many of them really understand the statistical significance of minute differences. I'm not lumping you into this class, mind you but I have good friends whose opinions and abilities I respect who suddenly consider themselves analytic "experts" and spout phrases like "regression to the mean" but for years they would look at me glassy eyed when I tried to explain anything related to numbers, be it business profit and loss or salary cap related.
  6. The one reason that I think there is still a possibility that Miller gets moved at the deadline, the fear of trading a "returning hero." They trade him before Friday and its big news here, across Canada and in a select few hockey markets. He leads USA to gold and returns a hero only to be traded and its news across America. People that today don't even know what offsides is will know Buffalo traded an American hero under that scenario. As for other players and other teams, if teams feel they are getting fair return they will be more apt to trade a player before the Olympics and save the money they won't have to pay them over the Olympic break.
  7. I stand corrected. I didn't carry it out to the last two years. This actually changes things for me. I could even see them buying him out although I think they will decide he is good enough to risk the $3 million cap hit but there is no way they trade him unless they can figure out away to guarantee he wouldn't retire.
  8. If you go to capgeek you will see unless he retires in the next two years its almost a non-issue. The penalty is minimal given the expected rise in the cap.
  9. Bowman proved it once. He keeps the guys he wants to keep and reloads the depth players. The cap could go up another $6 million or more in 2015.
  10. Seriously? Some of the threads that have been started here and some of the wacky trade rumors and proposals that have run here and you call this crazy? I don't really see this happening either but I expect that it will be considered.
  11. Thank you.
  12. Wow you really work hard to have an answer that fits your narrative.
  13. The correct answer is more then TM would be willing to offer. I'm sure if he offered Moulson or Ott and Buffalo's pick as well the option for the Islanders pick BM would drive him down to Buffalo.
  14. I tried to bow down but it was uncomfortable.
  15. I really don't want to become part of the argument but I can't let the "his attitude sucks" go by . His teammates have regularly voted him their MVP and constantly talk him up both publicjy, and privately in every conversation I have ever had with any of them and take it for what it's worth but that is not always the case when they discuss other teammates
  16. First, I said 3. The fourth player would be a goalie to replace Miller. I expect TM to trade some of his assets for a couple of top 6 forward prospects to go with Hodgson and Girgs, a draft pick and. 1 or two FA signings. You add in one or two guys coming up out of all the draft choices to add depth and you won't even remember the names of 9 or 10 of the forwards that are playing now.
  17. That's actually my point. As bad as it looks, it doesn't take a lot when you have the right people in place. If you do, it's a year or two. If you don't, even 5 years isn't enough.
  18. 3 or 4 players. A top line and a goalie if you trade Miller. They have plenty of talent for the 4th through 12th forward and the defense will be fine. Not sure about the coach yet. It can all be done in two years if TM is the right guy
  19. The team is only averaging 1.8 goals after you subtract out goals awarded for shoot outs so how significant could difference between Miller be? Bigger then the difference between shots against when each goaltender plays?
  20. Like I said a couple of pages ago, it shouldn't surprise anyone if Miller is the one moved tomorrow. Once they decided he wouldn't sign, moving him before Olympics became a goal.
  21. As long as Ennis is playing wing for someone else, I can live with the rest
  22. Why would we want Gagner ? No way you can have Hodgdon and Gagner as two of your top 3 centers on a championship team. Murray won't bring in anyone who doesn't have top 6 potential, fits with Hodgson and Girgs or can be flipped.
  23. I post that Miller might be moved before the Olympics now Garrioch and some Rabbi are taking stabs in the dark. I might have to start my own blog.
  24. Actually I never thought of Korab as tough. Maybe the greatest puncher but I always thought he could have been great if he was tougher to play against. Punch wanted to make him a forward but he never developed the d-man to take his place.
