So, last week Tuesday the NHL makes an offer to the players. Wednesday they make it public. Also last Wednesday Bettman tells the GM's that they should talk to their players. They have 48 hours to do so. Bettman carefully words his memo so as not to come across as unfair labor practices. So the owners and GM's face big fines if the go public with anything but they can talk to the players? The NHLPA doesn't find out about it (or at least doesn't say it publicly) until yesterday. Today the NHLPA requested a meeting and the NHL flatly said no. Seems to me the NHL is more interested in busting up the union than making a deal.

I don't think the "wayness" of his contract has anything to do with waivers.

That would be reentry waivers. One of the things the new CBA is looking to get rid of.
