I will watch this, but I suspect that unless Minnesota just completely mails this one in, we're gonna get trounced.

Decided to take the evening to watch Long Time Running which is up on Netflix right now. It's very tough to watch at times, but they do a pretty good job of trying to keep things upbeat. Nice little way to memorialize Gord and I'm grateful they did it.

Is that really enough? And on a team filled the rest of the way with plugs? It looks to me like this was not a good plan.

I feel like we're stuck possibly accepting something not desirable: that we'll have no choice but to waste some of Jack's time here waiting for the rest of the team to fill in around him.

The problem is that drafting Eichel happened too soon in the process. Ideally you suck and build your farm up and then you land a guy like Jack. The problem for us is that there was nothing in place for him to drop in to.

Botterill is in a really tough spot. The best he can do is try to draft well and maybe try to restock our pipeline by taking some chances on prospects in trades. Maybe some college signings. We're in a hole.

They drafted really well too in the years leading up to Crosby. It's not just that they had a couple years of top 2 picks, it's that they hit before that too. Pittsburgh sucked and drafted to fix it. They might have been successful without Crosby given the guys they picked before they got to him. But adding Crosby was the cherry on top. Our drafting for the last decade has been goddamn abysmal. Like...no one has panned out for this team or gone on to success later. We're way behind on drafting and development.

They were really damn bad though. For several seasons before the lockout and the eventually Crosby pick. Maybe today we'd call it tanking. But I think they just sucked and rebuilt and also got lucky. The perfect storm.

But the Penguins roster and pipeline wasn't even close to as f*cked as ours was and still is.

Cool. So he'll be back on IR by New Years.

Nothing super noteworthy there to be honest. White jersey, blue yoke. Blue/Yellow/Blue stripes on the arms. Classic logo with a NY on it. Basically a more boring version of the classic home whites. Weird that the NHL is taking the "10th anniversary" angle given that the 10th anniversary was last year. Sure, this is the 10th Winter Classic, but... Wait no, I'm wrong. I always forget that we played our WC in 2008, not 2007.

Kill me. Yes we lost last night, and yes Kane scored off of an Eichel feed. But did we really need to put them back together so quickly? Do we really think Jack learned his lesson? Or is this just going to be a thing? Take Kane away from Jack to make him put some effort in and then reunite them when you think he's working hard enough?

I'd prefer to be in front of it. And in the Sabretooth costume.
