  1. We just had this debate about the wisdom of moving Covid-19 patients from a large city hotspot to a small town with few cases. It's a pretty close analogy. Why would you want to move large numbers of people into an area that's faring fairly well? Of course we're talking August. It might be perfectly reasonable at that point. It might also still be the tail end of the pandemic or even the start of a new period of worrying about a second wave. I guess my beef boils down to floating it/discussing it with the pandemic peaking and thousands of people dying. No respect. Zero respect. But it's kind of what we're about. Move those bodies, boys, there's money to be made playing sports!
  2. Is this serious? Help the players stay afloat?
  3. Correct. We can't infect anyone who's important. There must be a sparsely populated place in flyover country.
  4. Media elites report with mouths agape (and other elites react with disbelief and contempt) that 43% of Americans don't have $400 for an emergency repair. Is loss of income during a pandemic a rainy day? Is it also a rainy day for the airlines? Are bailouts corporate welfare? Should the airlines have been better prepared to withstand this period (or at least more than two weeks of this period), given their record profits last year? I fail to see the goulash, which is delicious. I see a perfectly crafted omelet.
  5. Sally the secretary's hormones were off because she had been knocked up by the rich prick boss. Easy. Next? But, but... corporations are people! You don't think Southwest should save up for a rainy day and not go running for the welfare line the instant business takes a big hit?
  6. You think anytime soon is going to be a great time for a 600-person convention, with dozens of additional staff, media members, league officials, looky loos etc.? Kramer says it'll alllll be supervised. Speaking of which, where will the NHL gets the hundreds of Covid-19 tests to make sure the whole party is clean?
  7. It's embarrassing for them. You know the old saw that those with means say to those without? Save for a rainy day. The news told us a while back half the country didn't have anything saved for an emergency. Pull yerself up by yer bootstraps! Turns out a lot of businesses made it about 10 days before getting desperate. The airlines had a banner year in 2019. First ones with their hands out. The NHL is like your "successful" cousin who's trying to get a job at Amazon during the pandemic.
  8. Was there some debate about whether the Sabres showed replays of the hit? It's pretty obvious they replayed it twice in a row (after Umberger left the ice).

  10. Actually, I named it. I don't know if we had a contest or what, but it was my idea. Myspace wasn't the inspiration — cyberspace was.
  11. You had it surrounded. It was the beginning of the 06-07 season. Here's what is probably the first banner SDS used.
  12. It's not funny, but it is. It's a very Curb Your Enthusiasm kind of thing.
  13. OK, "Donny."
  14. Don't play coy with me. Do you know Donny or not!? Are involved in germ warfare????
  15. Hey @New Scotland (NS) did you or do you know a Don Coates? This just occurred to me — SabreSpace was just a rebranding of The Sabres Report message board that launched circa 2002. Here's a list of posters with a copyright date of 2003 that I cropped off. But it's what you get if you look at the forum from late 2002. I used Wayback Machine to find this.
  16. The whonow? Why does it seem like Woody is a more recent arrival and would have been in junior high in 2010? Woody must have changed his handle over the years, or didn't post much in those days.
  17. I just Waybacked it, and that forum on LetsGoSabres.com had 1,600-some posters. A lot more than I remember.
  18. Absolutely right--Miller won that game. Another "facet" worth mentioning: discipline. Two penalties--one for too many men (yet again)--was good in the "old" NHL; in the "new" NHL, it's nearly impossible. Sometimes the way to win is to not make mistakes, and the Sabres did that tonight. You were incredibly coherent back in the day.
  19. To find your first post: Profile See my activity All activity — posts Enter page number (1/919, I entered 919) Eleven, at first I could only go back so far. Step 3 is key.
  20. I was joking around in the How Are You Passing Your Time thread about going back and re-reading all of my posts. Surprisingly, you can do that (except for when the board crashed, I guess). My first post was on November 12, 2005.
  21. Very well said. The major broadcast and cable networks have also aired hour after hour of those White House briefings, where anyone looking for good news can find plenty of inspiration.
  22. I'm rereading all of my SabreSpace posts. Damn, I'm good. I'm almost up to StrabisMiller.
  23. Good for you, Spock. I'm giving people a ton of the benefit of the doubt in their behavior during a pandemic; I am very hesitant to call anyone stupid. I myself am fearful. Wish I had more perspective. I have no doubt that's exactly what will happen, and it'll be a good thing. No offense to our veterans here, but the military salutes have become a bit much. I bet most of the vets will agree with that statement, or will say that salutes are not necessary or wanted in the first place. Especially the ones that are corporate in nature.
  24. Can you put some meat on the bone here? Any details on how what you see as hype is creating problems in the hospitals? Are you talking about "worried well" people who show up in the ER thinking they have Covid-19?
