Alas, 4-2 is 4-2. I don't know whose hill is bigger or sadder, but we're both dying on it!

Haven't read before this. Fascinating situation. I believe it was a feel decision more than a statistical decision. The way TN drove down the field, perhaps McD figured his chances in OT were less, although maybe only modestly less, than converting on fourth down (and scoring) or converting and scoring. I liked the decision. The play call? Not so much? The stats guys can break down your chance of getting fourth and one with the QB behind center and everyone locked and loaded vs. the QB being in the shotgun and the defense more spread out. Gutsy. I like McD a little more because of it.

I appreciate the chuckle, but to me this scene on Washington St. was more poignant than comical. It's Game 2 and already the world has wadded up and discarded the Sabres. Even the leaves aren't paying much attention. Well, just the one that decided to get all up in Hagg's grill. (It fell off a nearby thorny tree.) If I was DG, I would show the team this picture and tell them this is what the universe and the hockey gods have cooked up for them. Then I'd tell them, in my best Perreault, let's go beat those ***** frogs! (Check.)

This is silly. There's no need to fit in. In fact, I'd discourage it.

THEY are gone. This team is not those teams. It seems like an obvious point, but you missed it. That's the beauty of where things stand, if you can be logical and shed the baggage of past seasons. This team might very well do what those others teams did, but it will be almost 100% coincidence.
