Is Don Granato the best coach the Sabres have had since Lindy Ruff?
Stoner replied to LGR4GM's topic in The Aud Club
You're admitting that an NHL head coach is a huge unknown in terms of whether he can coach. Kinda says it all. I think he's good in his current role. That role can't last forever. It's wishful thinking on my part that his job is done here. Everyone can't be good at everything. Put another way would Cooper or Trotz have done as good a job as Granato? I have my doubts. -
Not hard. Blue and yellow.

So the guys you're targeting were in elementary school when Tony broke in? -

Are all opinions agendas? I haven't said much about TG. I was skeptical of the hire, warmed up to it, then didn't like his response to his team getting shafted by the league twice in short order, which again looks to me like a franchise that doesn't act like it cares about losing. Let's say Adams tries to what virtually everyone wants over the summer: put a lot more talent around the kids. Free agents are targeted. Can you not imagine a potential free agent seriously asking his agent, "Wait, who's the coach up there now?" -
More to the point, the population of the city itself also went up. https://www.census.gov/quickfacts/buffalocitynewyork

FWIW, the population of Erie County apparently grew almost 4% between 2010 and 2020. I say apparently because I'm not sure the 2020 data point in Wikipedia is the official census figure.

I have no agenda against Tony. He's done his job, and done it pretty well. I doubt many fans think he's the one who will be behind the bench if/when the team is contending. I think the bolded above shows you agree with me. FTR my only agenda is against the rich scumbug earth rapist with the obscene mega yacht — and the Mrs. -
It's not about this game.

I can expand on it. The biggest move the team could make to signal to the fans/players and hockey world that there's a commitment to winning next season would be to get an NHL coach in here.

I'd appreciate it if no one mentioned that I revamped the song two and a half years ago and posted it in another thread and apparently forgot I did so. It's my obsession. I'll be fine. Early senility is something, though.

Over eight years later, a new version. Sadly, other than adding Eichel and Dahlin at the end, Dahlin representing the new promising future, there wasn't anything of note to add in terms of franchise highlights. The beginning is revamped, as well as the mid 70s stanza. The negative, snarky ending is gone with bits of streams of consciousness, mostly positive and nostalgic, added, while retaining some edge and sadness. Notable additions are Norty Knox and Rene Robert, who were only subtly referenced in the original, Golisano, Ryan Miller, Eichel and Dahlin. Notable deletions include Hull, the captains and the very forgettable Grigorenko. Dudacek is gone, sorry @dudacek. Overall, quite a bit has changed. Hopefully some of the rhymes are better. As much as I liked the original (and loved Swamp's vocals and arrangement), it didn't hold up well over time. I'm pretty sure this will only continue to exist as a poem and won't be turned into another song. I couldn't ask @SwampD to give me another gift of a lifetime (and that statement is not meant to entice him to do it). I suppose there are people I could hire, but @SDS's cautionary tale is top of mind. Certainly if anyone on this board has the musical chops to take it on, I'd love to hear from you. In my dreams it does exist as song with a cool YT video to boot. This can continue to be edited/crowd-sourced, so if anyone has a suggestion, let me know. I'm obsessed with the pronunciation: KEEVE or KEEihv. Two syllables, but barely. Definitely not KEE-ehv.

The wins will have to be many next fall to restore any semblance of a crowd after the Bills are done. Too many are tuned out and skeptical of March heroics. Just my opinion. YMMV.

You mean the arena atmosphere can be funny, clever, even edgy? How would the traditional and knowledgeable Sabre fans react? -

Chet and Muffy were at Billy Joel in August. They left when someone lit a Bic during Piano Man. It was a bridge too far.

So the Sabres' sale gets announced next week?

Last night was good cable news drama. 10x worse than Chernobyl! A little outbuilding was on fire. Russians attack nuclear power plant! There was plenty of tracer fire emerging from the plant. Nobody's hands were clean on that one. Propaganda is fun though.

Dudacek currently holds the worst lead in hockey message board posting: 15.

I didn't hear Gurtler many times, but his calls never bothered me that much. His May Day call was pretty good — until the part about May scoring at the end where (name deleted to protect sanity of our friend from NS) won Game 7 in OT 10 years before.
