Daily cases in the state have dropped from a peak of almost 12,000 a day to 550-ish. Daily deaths topped a thousand, and yesterday 12 died. The positivity rate touched on 50% and has dropped so low it's hard to read the chart. Low single digits. More room for improvement, but to say NY didn't get things under control from where they were is weird.

So the decline in cases after Manhattan became a virtual ghost town is also a correlation?

To the bolded, isn't that common sense after seeing how NY got things under control? Is this a defense of our response (by the government, the health care system, the population in general)? It's kind of like saying, for the record (insert name of five NHL teams) are worse on the PP than we are! I'm sure Claude would agree that the idea of immunity and thus herd immunity is very much an open question.

If true, there won't be herd immunity and there won't be "immunity passports." Vaccines or bust. It makes me wonder if the new surge in cases could be partially explained by people who had Covid-19 or got a positive antibody test taking risks, thinking they are safe.

Good stuff, Smell. I'm not sure how they lined up New York and Florida "at the same point in time" in their outbreaks. Deaths lag cases by several weeks if not more, so I think it's too soon to say Florida is going to fare better than NY in terms of deaths. New daily cases started rising on about June 9 in the U.S. (as a seven day average). New daily deaths have been declining for a good while, but the last few seven-day averages indicate a possible flattening of the improvement.

Sweden's curve looks a lot like ours. It is 16th in the world in cases per million people. The U.S. is 10th. The other two Scandinavian countries, Denmark and Norway, have done a lot better.
