  1. The internet is not new. Anyone with half a brain knows by now how to evaluate sources and not just click on the first link as your answer. This sounds like every doctor I've known over the age of 60.
  2. I wonder if Duds is a "fine" older man?
  3. Google isn't a way of tracking anything. It's a search engine. It even brings up results from pubmed.
  4. Mandelbaum! No. You only eat them in months that end in n.
  5. What did I tell you about Nova Scotia clams?
  6. NYC is far off from herd immunity (if that will be a real thing), and they got slammed, which means everyone else is REALLY far off from it. https://www.cnbc.com/2020/06/30/roughly-25percent-of-new-york-city-has-probably-been-infected-with-coronavirus-dr-scott-gottlieb-says.html
  7. That's a heckuva jab to inject into this thread!
  8. I have bad instincts with these things. So it's not the most logical person?
  9. Daily cases in the state have dropped from a peak of almost 12,000 a day to 550-ish. Daily deaths topped a thousand, and yesterday 12 died. The positivity rate touched on 50% and has dropped so low it's hard to read the chart. Low single digits. More room for improvement, but to say NY didn't get things under control from where they were is weird.
  10. So the decline in cases after Manhattan became a virtual ghost town is also a correlation?
  11. To the bolded, isn't that common sense after seeing how NY got things under control? Is this a defense of our response (by the government, the health care system, the population in general)? It's kind of like saying, for the record (insert name of five NHL teams) are worse on the PP than we are! I'm sure Claude would agree that the idea of immunity and thus herd immunity is very much an open question.
  12. Yeah, but they were wrong about you being able to make LaGuardia.
  13. If true, there won't be herd immunity and there won't be "immunity passports." Vaccines or bust. It makes me wonder if the new surge in cases could be partially explained by people who had Covid-19 or got a positive antibody test taking risks, thinking they are safe.
  14. I like this new poster.
  15. When did "Love. It's what makes a Subaru a Subaru" become "Love. It's what makes Subaru, Subaru"?
  16. Hmmm. Not sure. Where's the carrageenan?
  17. Aldi did it! Their french onion dip is exactly the same as Bison. .99 cents vs. 3.49 ish.
  18. Good stuff, Smell. I'm not sure how they lined up New York and Florida "at the same point in time" in their outbreaks. Deaths lag cases by several weeks if not more, so I think it's too soon to say Florida is going to fare better than NY in terms of deaths. New daily cases started rising on about June 9 in the U.S. (as a seven day average). New daily deaths have been declining for a good while, but the last few seven-day averages indicate a possible flattening of the improvement.
  19. Sweden's curve looks a lot like ours. It is 16th in the world in cases per million people. The U.S. is 10th. The other two Scandinavian countries, Denmark and Norway, have done a lot better.
  20. Jon Stewart had the quote of the pandemic appearing on Trevor Noah's show. Anyone who is philosophically opposed to masks should tell his or her surgeon to take off the mask — and "unwash your hands." Of course he said it funnier than that.
  21. Old folks? As the saying goes, that's only the half of it.
  22. The health secretary of PA disagrees. The sensational conclusion some have reached should instead be debated as something like, "What role, if any, did returning residents to nursing homes play in nursing home deaths?" Do we know? Anyway, this is not the thread for it. I wish it was, but what's good for the goose is good for the gander.
  23. It would be fascinating to know how the responses break down by age. Some of us are getting nervous about never seeing a Cup in our lives. The future is now! (Unless you're 25.)
  24. I wonder why these posts with Republican talking points about Democratic governors haven't been moved. This thread is about the virus not the government's response to the virus.
