Watching the Caps--Canes game last night I caught myself thinking that I wanted a team like the Canes that played like their hair was on fire, especially in OT. Their effort was outstanding and as much as I have disliked them for the last dozen years or so, I felt it would be a travesty if that effort didn't end in a win. The head coach needs to be a leader that inspires. Game planning and in-game adjustments are of course important, but pale in comparison to all out effort. If only we could insert Ted Nolan's heart and Scotty Bowman's brain into our new coach. Ted Bowman is on my wish list.

Every team has some talent, but whether you have some talent or are loaded with talent, intensity is what makes the difference. Think how far the "hardest working team in the NHL" got with not all that much talent. Anybody watching the playoffs should be able to determine what makes a team good. Last nights game between Nashville and Dallas was as intense as it gets. Both talented teams but their intensity level was sky high and they were selling out on every play. If the Sabres were as intense as those two teams they have enough talent to beat either one of them. As far as physicality goes, that is just part of being intense.

Watching the games on TV one gets to recognize each individual's skating style. Jack is unique with his upright style. I rarely confuse him with anyone else (when I can't see the number), Maybe Dahlin sometimes. Skinner and Sheary skate pretty much alike, are both shorter and sometimes you can only see the "3" on their back. Confusing them is understandable. RJ mixed up Nelson with Bogosian which I find puzzling. He also called Reinhart, O'Reilly on one rush. All in all though, he's f'n RJ and he's almost universally loved. He can sit in that seat forever if it was up to me.
