SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT: Before this season many posters here were stating that 80 points and an entertaining style of play is what they expected. A few others were hoping that they would be at least in contention come springtime. Most were worried about the goaltending and it's a long season to make any definitive comments but so far it's been decent enough. While watching the game against Tampa Bay I found myself expecting a comeback and a win. While it was still in the 3rd period and the Sabres were ahead 3-2 I realized that my expectations were not at all consistent with my preseason thoughts. I am going to enjoy this season and have fun with watching the process, their maturation and overall growth. This team has a ton of young talent backed up by a pipeline full of additional talent. I'm thinking that it's going to take a few years for them to possibly win the Cup. Let's just enjoy their journey.

Just so you know, I resisted the urge to tell you to use your noggin. Of course the blonde hair on their heads could have come out of a bottle, but if it's that important to everyone here I'll volunteer to look into it.

The question that any leader on a sports team should ask is What would Josh Allen do? The players on the Bills, whether on offense or defense love #17 because he doesn't proclaim by words or actions that he is on a pedestal. He makes 4 times what Mathews makes but is truly a leader and his teammates recognize and are willing to run through a wall for him. If you want to travel down the road by yourself go play tennis, not a team game.

Wow. What a coincidence. I just finished a survey of most of the girlfriends and wives of the Sabres players. Several of them just laughed when I questioned the size of their significant other. Two of them separately laughed and said that their guy may not look like he's really big but can really grow on ya. Being the shy guy that I am I didn't ask for further clarification.

I guess it's possible to learn something from even poor teachers or uninspiring leaders. From an observer who is also a fan it is apparent though that Dahlin didn't flourish until Granato was able to get him to play with instinct rather than referring to page 2, article 3 before making a move. Krueger & Smith may certainly have some value but it should be obvious that their values didn't align with the type of players they were supplied with. They would probably do much better with the old NJ Devils and their style of play.

Dahlin was set back immensely by RK. A large part of an athletes effectiveness is their confidence level. It has become obvious that RK did nothing to foster that amongst the Sabres. The whole team is playing with a confidence level that is allowing them to really perform. On the other hand they are prone to let a little hubris creep in and think they are better than they are. That's when unprovoked mistakes are made. This team will make mistakes that some people will denigrate them for. Instead of getting all upset we should realize that mistakes that are the positive kind are simply a part of the maturation process and we're watching a team get better. Dahlin, who is most likely the highest skilled player on the team has also recently shown a very high level of hockey sense. The last 4 years, no matter how difficult they may have been seem to have made this player a man at the age of 22.

There's just something wrong with him this year. Maybe he shouldn't have gotten that big contract. -)

My guess is that he needs several more games to get back to the North America rink size and way of playing. I always thought he was pretty decent before he chose to leave us.

Actually the penalty came earlier than what they thought. It was a penalty but pretty weak.
