  1. I'm not sure if it's my new monitor or I never noticed before, but for the GOTY videos youtube keeps giving me 720p60 or 1080p60 video options (60 frames per second) and, ohhhh mmyyyy, is it pretty. Also: new monitor is awesome. It's a relatively cheap 27" 4K LG, but it's just so nice to work on. If I end up work from home 100%, I'd be really tempted to get a second one.
  2. I know I did, and I was wrong. Good call on your part.
  3. It seems like I remember people claiming some arenas shots (and hits) are more generous than others. IIRC, MSG is generous for shots to make Lundqvist look good.
  4. Maybe the Sabres could bring in Halak and he'd actually play a game!
  5. And here I was listening to Thick as a Brick this morning in the car. The CD version (which I've ripped) is one track, 45 minutes.
  6. I was surprised too. Also, only three of the six (Elway #1, Marino #27, and Kelly #14) had what I'd call good careers. The other guys I didn't know (although Eason did lead 86 Pats to the Superbowl (and got blown out like 154-10)).
  7. Mastering is crazy because hearing is crazy. It reminds me of a story about the Yamaha NS10 speaker. They weren't very good speakers, but they ended up being popular because some travelling producers and big-name freelance sound engineers starting using them as "basic hi-fi speakers" so they had a reference of what stuff would sound like on average people's equipment. That's all good, it's a foolish person that doesn't make sure their product doesn't work well for the masses, but people started using them as the main mix with their somewhat questionable sound reproduction resulting in bad mixes. A friend mentioned some sound guys have a "de-NS10" preset to correct for their sound. https://www.soundonsound.com/reviews/yamaha-ns10-story
  8. I went back and looked at the replays: First Ranger Goal (0:55 or so): Pass comes across and a Ranger is alone at the inside hash mark. Some D should have had him, BUT: Lehner was already down on his knees before the pass. He slides over in plenty of time to square up, but then tries to (somewhat awkwardly) get back to his skates and the puck goes through his legs. I put this 50/50 on Lehner, he's always down early and he'd have a better chance of stopping this on his skates. Make sure to watch the replay from the far end of the ice to see the big hole that opens up when Lehner tries to get back on his skates. Second Ranger Goal (1:17 or so): Ranger player skates down below the goal line, and seeing (?) Lehner isn't tight to the post tries to bank it off his skate. The puck gets through (but not in), where another Ranger gets a stick on it and it's in. There were Sabres D there that should have tied the scorer up. Again, 50/50. There's no reason for Lehner not have the post (and was down on his knees again). There was a ton of room for the Ranger to put the puck in directly over Lehner's pad directly had his back not been to the goal before the bank/pass to the eventual scorer. OT: Goal. This is mostly on the D, although Lehner could have done himself a favor by not leaving a rebound 6 feet from the open side of the net, and not leaving half the net open by being over by the right post. From the replay, it's tough to see exactly where the initial shot comes in, but it does bounce to the Lehner's left, so it's possible he overplayed it a bit and could have been closer to the center of the net. Sabres goals: the first, Lundqvist had Reinhart right on top of him as the screen shot comes in, and puck ended up on Sam's stick. I'm not sure too many GT's stop that regularly. The second was a shot through traffic that was placed perfectly top-corner. He could have had that one if he saw the puck earlier. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XL5pVR8HkWc
  9. Maybe Casey will go with as his "number":
  10. 1> you have to wonder if the team is thinking the same thing 2> half is optimistic; it's rare that he makes a pass that connects, the majority seem to end up on an opponent stick on the boards around the hash marks 3> Absolutely 4> I remember reading that xx% of spectacular saves are because the goalie was out of position to start 5> Absolutely. What's worse is he doesn't seem to track the puck well so after kicking out a big rebound he'll often be looking around for it instead of knowing 6> Lehner is a big goalie that relies on filling up the net with size; that's not going to work well 1 on 1
  11. I don't have any vinyl, but these turntables have fascinated me since I was young and first read about them. They use lasers to read the groove so you get the LP sound with no hiss or pops from the stylus running down the groove. Unfortunately they're in the 5-figures so not for average humans to own. http://elpj.com/ Side note: must read up on how quadrophonic records work.
  12. Even then, Marino was the last picked of the six at #27.
  13. I'm more worried that Tolbert is going to get all McCoy's touches if Shady can't play.
  14. I'm coming to a theory that they play in baseball stadiums a lot because the league is worried that some (many?) cities wouldn't fill an 80,000 seat stadium. That's all I got, other than perhaps other city's football locations are less desperate and turn the league down. Of course, in the NYC area, the stadium is in use every week (by necessity) so if they're going to keep catering to the market they don't have any other options.
  15. It got under my skin too, but I (probably wisely) decided to leave it alone since no one else replied. I'd say it was mightily Christian of me to turn the other cheek to Hank's slings and arrows. :)
  16. My guess is due to the crappy sightlines of playing hockey in a baseball stadium, there wasn't a better location to shoot from without putting a 30' tower at home plate.
  17. FWIW, RosePie absolutely hated eating with a blanket on her head. I can't blame her, I'd hate it too. I'm not sure I'd get to the point of screaming and biting like she did, though. TL;DR: feed your kid. If it requires popping a boobie out to do it and you don't care, objections are someone else's hang-up.
  18. 1: My guess is there was a schedule conflict where TP couldn't be at the station during the football show, so they crammed it into the hockey show. He's a busy guy; drilling wells, running the BuffaloIlluminati, looking at colleges for his kids, etc. 2: not a great answer, but realistically we're parsing language. He gave a generally positive answer that could have been worded better. 3: Q: What are you up to tonight, MattPie? A: I have to go to my motorcycle club dinner. Nothing to see here.
  19. I made pork and sauerkraut (and apples) in the pressure cooker yesterday. Turned out good, but pork tenderloin turned into more of a pulled-pork than something I could slice up. Pretty good nonetheless! My mom (and grandma) make it in a roaster and it's a lot better than mine.
  20. The Bills, after starting 5-1, went 4-6 for the rest of the season. I think that's called "coasting in", where the, for instance, Chargers are a better team right now if you're going by recent records.
  21. That was already taking over when I was in college in the 90s. I have no issue with it, being inclusive is a good thing.
  22. Exchanging glances acrost a crowded room?
  23. Besides Redhat's "Openstack Cloud Administration II Coursebook", I'm reading Beowulf (JRR Tolkien's translation) as a step to reading "Grendel", which is Grendel's side of the story. Beowulf is tough sledding, since it rambles. So far I've gotten "guy builds hall, Grendel tears it up, Beowulf shows up and want to wrastle Grendel" out of like 100 pages.
  24. I never went there, but friends of mine did. The one house I remember in particular was 79 Eagle St, around 1997 or so. Fun times; one friend used to DJ at BJs a lot so we hung out there most of the time.
  25. So we could swap Lehner and Petersen and not notice the difference?
