  1. MrsPie and I did a intro climbing day at a gym that's really close to my house. It was a lot of fun, but my hands hurt for weeks after that. I need to build up some hand strength before I try that again.
  2. This is a good data point. gigantic ice, no goalie stick, still only a 5-4 game after 90 minutes. Maybe a bigger ice surface won't increase scoring. :)
  3. Hot take: Philly fans are no worse than Bills fans. I've been to several Flyers games and nothing happened that I couldn't imagine seeing at the Ralph. Maybe not at a Sabres game, but I haven't been to a home game in probably 20 years.
  4. It's been 15 days, and I haven't been doing very good on my plan to break a sweat. Call it holiday hangover, laziness, or time crunch, but I need to do something. I have a cheap exercise bike and a stand for my MTB in the basement, I just have to get on it. Part of it is I said I'd watch TV/hockey while I was down there, and I've been doing almost zero of that. Anyone have any experience with an under desk cycle? MrsPie was thinking of getting me one. It seems like a great idea, but the reading the 1 and 2 star reviews on Amazon has me wary. Example: https://www.amazon.com/DeskCycle-Exercise-Pedal-Exerciser-White/dp/B00B1VDNQA/ref=sr_1_4?s=exercise-and-fitness&ie=UTF8&qid=1516047002&sr=1-4&keywords=desk+cycle
  5. Vikings fans are obnoxious? How can that be? They haven't won anything since the year before the league expanded and haven't played for the championship in over 40 years. Oh wait, I just answered my own question.
  6. So wait, you've been saying Reinhart was going to be a washout since 18 months ago? When he was coming off a 42-point Rookie season, where he finished 16th voting for the Lady Bing and 9th for the Calder trophy? I don't doubt you did, but it sounds a lot like bias if you were still down on the guy after a great season.
  7. I'm wary of any quirk that may turn the game into a certain amount of rock-paper-scissors. "Oh, sorry about your playoffs series with the Coyotes, they have a slow team so the use a small rink to compensate." I think baseball, being an outdoor sport is a better fit for it, and the fields are gigantic so they don't always fit into cities well.
  8. I only 30-40 years left, I'm not sure I'll see it.
  9. Yep. Slow down a little and put a solid, fundamental tackle on the guy and wrap wrap him up (don't try to launchhim into the stands with a big hit), and the game's over.
  10. I'm sorry to hear about your wife. Do what makes you happy. They're a west team, so it wouldn't be hard to root for them wholeheartedly unless they're playing the Sabres their two games a year. And any wins against east teams helps the Sabres (in the non-carrion standings). If some day you find you'd rather see the Knights win against the Sabres, that's fine too. Just don't come over here and prattle on about the Knights constantly when that happens. ;) I kinda do this in the NFL with the Eagles, as much as I root for any team in football these days. Being an NFC team, they almost never hurt the Bills by winning plus they hate on Cowboys, Redskins, and Giants which is easy. That being said, I've paid almost zero attention to the Eagles this year, including the playoff game yesterday (only watched a few minutes), where I spent more effort on the Bills.
  11. I think it's been summed up, but two more examples: if XGMTM had traded the Sabres' 2018 1st for (I don't know, say) Duchene last year what would the reaction be at the time? Probably good; we all thought/hoped they'd be on the playoff bubble this year or better, but from the looks of it, that's going to be no worse than 5th overall. Similar with Edmonton. On the flip side, Toronto's 2017 1st would have had a ton of value in 2016 (the year they tanked), but ends up being around 20th pick because of their great year.
  12. Guys, it was one game. One that he was amp'd up for his first start in awhile. I hope and want him to be the solution, but let's get 2-3 games before we anoint.
  13. Absolutely. I *never* eat Taco Bell any more because the food isn't even close to being worth the aftermath.
  14. Most of my site is now working what's called 9/80 in our vernacular. I work 4 9s per week (roughly, we do flex time as well so it can vary), and 8 hours every other Friday. Today was my Friday off which coincided with RosePie's first Friday in Preschool. MrsPie and I lived it up; CostCo and Panera.
  15. Taco Bell: never again. Life's too short to eat terrible food. Mighty Taco: half a step up from taco bell.
  16. I agree. There just doesn't seem to be a way to eliminate it from the game without fundamentally changing it. Hockey can at least be played without massive hits and fights. The dinosaurs will complain, and something may be lost from the game, but it'll still be hockey.
  17. It's certainly dampened my enthusiasm for big hits in both hockey and football. I did think, man, I'm hope Tyrod isn't going to be messed up for life at the end of the Bills game.
  18. I'm available if there's a trip to the maldives in the bargain.
  19. I seen what you did there.
  20. Matty Mo has 3-15-18 in 14 games in the AHL.
  21. Spectre / Meltdown, and vendor's inability to give clear concise answers and microcode.
  22. I do, I was at Flappy's on Seneca and Transit IIRC. Pominville was on the PK, got the puck away from OV, and potted the SHG. I thought it was the around Thanksgiving or Xmas though; although at that time I was in Buffalo a lot so I could be wrong or mixing games up. Ah, you're right! The fact that I found that in like, 30 seconds; what a fascinating modern age we live in.
  23. Team cohesiveness in Rochester?
  24. This is ridiculous, no one builds a passenger railroad near an active volcano.
  25. I'm confused, the WC was at home already!
