  1. That's nice and all, but: 1> did he grow up on a farm? 2> what glove size does he wear?
  2. I'm sure serious cookeryists will argue, but the $15 knife I bought from IKEA is sufficient until you're really good. I'm not.
  3. The Magic Roundabout in Swindon, England, was constructed in 1972[1] and is a ring junction consisting of five mini-roundabouts arranged around a sixth central, anticlockwise roundabout. Located near the County Ground, home of Swindon Town F.C., its name comes from the popular children's television series The Magic Roundabout. In 2009 it was voted the fourth scariest junction in Britain.[2] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magic_Roundabout_(Swindon)
  4. IT was light last night at my house, probably 150-200 kids rather than the 300+ in years past. Strange too, because it was a gorgeous night. Maybe one of the newer developments are syphoning off the commuters. I dig it, take a couple beers out to the driveway and give out candy for 2 hours. There are rules in my town that it's only from 6-8, and since it's constant we don't bother with answering the door. Oh, and play this album on my phone the whole time:
  5. These lines are scary good.
  6. I developed my love of cooking watching Alton Brown's Good Eats. I dig the science-y approach to cooking. The cookbooks based on the show are good too; you can usually find the episode on youtube so you can watch someone make the dish and then try it at home. Most of my cooking lately has been Instant Pot, since it's easier to manage a 4-year-old while doing it. I have a pretty good Instant Pot Cookbook at home that I'll share if anyone is interested.
  7. It's not the North American style of rough and tumble (see, Bogosian as of late?), but he's not afraid to mix it up in front of the net, hit people, and occasionally fight.
  8. The Peterman era begins again!
  9. It's a little section of this. Getting into the Halloween Spirit. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Triptych_of_the_Temptation_of_St._Anthony
  10. Yep, you got it. The season-point-pace is 97Rock (96.9). OTLs lose a little ground, but only 0.15 points as the team needs to average 1.15 points per game to hit 94. To put it another way, the team could go per 10 games 2-0-8 for the entire season and hit 98 points. Similarly, 4-2-4 would yield 12 points per ten games and hit 98.
  11. Quinoa and kombucha are both awesome. I'm not sure I buy some of the more outlandish health claims for kombucha, but it's good and a bunch of good gut bacteria can't be bad for you. I'm just sad that I screwed up my SCOBY last week because I was in a hurry so I need to get a new one.
  12. Went to a game in Philly with a friend. I wore my jersey, he wore a Roenick 97 that he's had forever. You may remember the game, Sabres led 2-0 at the end of the first, Kassian fought Sestito and won. Sabres lost 7-2. Nothing bad happened in the stands. Some half-hearted smack and chuckles was all. http://www.hockeyfights.com/fights/109943 (I forgot how bad the announcers were during that era)
  13. I've considered resurrecting the charts, but I don't think I'm committed enough to keep up. For now, this is probably the best you'll get. ? Realistically, until the last maybe 10 games of the season, "The Pace" is as good an indicator as any. We pretty much know the #8 seed will have between 92 - 96 points, tracking the nearby teams in the standings is fun, but not really required.
  14. I have to say I'm surprised and happy. It's been a long time since I'd even consider it possible.
  15. Does that change anyone’s view of the matter? I still think it reflects an antiquated view of offensive foobaw. Not much, due to the bold part. Most modern coaches would be talking about a balanced attack to keep the defense off-balance. This quote is "it's a pass driven league, but I'm still only passing when forced".
  16. Sleepy Hollow, I'll watch that in the next week or so. Young Frankenstein is a good one too, thanks for reminding me, @Sabel79
  17. I never really believed this until I started doing the math for Lost Point. A few bad games early, and even winning two in a row the Sabres still need the next one to get back to a playoff pace. They're in the wildcard slot right now, but on pace for 91 points which is safe to say *not* going to make the playoffs.
  18. I'm wary of the NHL environment for 2 or 3 of Vanek's first 4 years. So many points to be had those years.
  19. The swings are still pretty big right now. Sabres are at a 91-point season pace after the win in Anaheim. Another win and that's up to a 98 point pace, a tie it's 90 point pace, and a loss they're back down to 82 points for the season. MUST WIN.
  20. FWIW, I have a pair of Sol Republic V...8s? that aren't bad. They're a bit bass-heavy (which is expected based on most people's tastes) but they're reasonably comfortable and not break-the-bank. I'm looking for some Bluetooth ear buds for various outdoor work (lawn, digging, etc.) and the occasional flight. I have a set of custom molded earplugs I had done in 2011 and they are by far the most comfortable and noise-blocking ear plugs I've found. I see there are a few places that make ear buds the same way, but haven't narrowed down what I want yet. This is an example that turned up in a quick search: https://snugs.com/product-range/
  21. Fun fact: If the Sabres win tonight, they'll still be just under 94 point pace. If they lose, they'd have to win the next 3 before they'll be back above 94PP.
  22. I replaced the front right blinker bulb on my car Saturday. It's not a big deal, but I did have to pull out the airbox and duct that goes up to the front of hood to get into the space where the bulb is. The bulbs came in a 2-pack, and I considered changing the left side too while I was in out in the garage, but that side you have to pull the battery so I skipped it. My left front blinker went out today.
  23. I was thinking, "We have a shiny new Pekar to show everyone"
