That's the day before, apparently. Consider it foreshadowing.

No regrets here, although I watched the last one while working on something to know if my coworkers would be calling in hungover out of joy or sorrow.

MrsPie mentioned something about performers turning down the NFL over Kapernick, but I don't know where that came from. I don't think it's unreasonable that some of the Canadians success in the 70s had a fair bit to do with having dibs on players before there was a draft. I'll admit I haven't done the homework, but players in the old system pre-1963 (where Montreal all (and other NHL teams) acquired rights to players extremely young was still in effect. An 18-year-old in 1962 would be 26 in 1970 and 36 in 1980. It'd be interesting to see how much of the Habs' team in the 70s was made of those players.

I installed some new countertops in my kitchen, what an annoying job that was. It's not bad, but the jigsaw's foot was too big so I had to do the back edge with a hacksaw. That sucked. Also, I'm the proud owner of a new furnace. I'm sure happy about that as that money would have just gone to something fun like a couple years worth of vacations, a nice used motorcycle, or into the retirement fund.

It's aPauling. I'll show myself out, thanks.

Maybe it's a boomer thing. If you don't have the conference champ T-shirt you boxed set of 2019 $TEAM_NAME T-shirts will be incomplete. Big hole between "[A|N]FC Divisional Round Champion" and "Super Bool Champion". Note: I didn't intend to sprinkle computer references into this post when I started it, it just happened.

One note, we're an inter-timezone group here so I'd add EST/EDT to the time. I do like the surrealist title though, even if I'm not sure they're the best idea.

That seems bold.

Number of Regulation Losses Left for the Sabres to reach playoffs
MattPie replied to caseydean's topic in The Aud Club
You are of course right, but I don't find the value of obsessing over other teams and "points behind" in January. The last two weeks of the season, absolutely. At this point, teams above and below will rise and fall, but if you're on pace for 98 points it's extremely likely you'll make the playoffs regardless of where the other teams are. Maybe this is the year where the top 8 teams in the east have 100+ points, but I doubt it. I think I may rebase my spreadsheet on 96 or 97 points though. I think I came up with 94 points by using the entire league since the 2005, and if the east is going to consistently require more than that I'll adjust. -
I'm shipping off my Ataris today. I'm kind of sad about it, but at the same time it's not like I'm making time for them and don't see it in the future. They were the first two computers I used. So long, Atari 400 and 800XL.

Got around to updating. The Sabres have been under 94-point pace for the last three games, and given the gap between #8 and #9 (Buffalo) and the fall off for the rest of the east, I'd bet on 94 points not being enough this year. It's not dire in itself, win the next game to get back near 94-pace, and then maintain a playoff pace (12 points per 10 games) for the rest of the season and it's possible. The play before The Streak and after The Streak gives me little confidence that the team can do that. If they lose 3-4 of the next 5, and it becomes pretty difficult to climb back.

Watching other teams is fun, but really it's about points. For all the drama in the season, 97 points has gotten in every year. The number is usually more like 93-95 is the break point. For some team to collapse, other teams are picking up those points. -
Bold: hah, good call. I'm with you brother!

Please take this nonsense to the Politics area, and provide some proof before you start tossing around insults.

Number of Regulation Losses Left for the Sabres to reach playoffs
MattPie replied to caseydean's topic in The Aud Club
I haven't updated in a long time, but check out: I need to add the last 10 or 20 games, but my guess is the Sabres are near the "need to be one of the best teams in hockey" for a while to get on track. They've certainly squandered a good streak. They only need to play .500 in points after that and I'm not sure they're even doing that. -
Should analytics be banned from normal everyday threads?

I'll add two things: If the advanced stats said the Sabres win streak was unsustainable, they were 100% right. The team has looked the same level of mediocre before and after. If a player could hit a 6x6" area in the corner of the net with precision every time, there'd be a lot more goals scored in the NHL. Also, players would go 4 for 4 in that plate breaking thing in the All-star game with regularity. This doesn't diminish Jack making that shot, but he probably only hits it a few times out of 10, which is a lot more than most players. -
It's the Billsiest.

To be fair, just about any Assistant ST coach in the NFL for a couple years has probably proven that.

He was a skilled D for the NHL, but skilled in a way that's fallen out of favor. 15 years ago he'd still be playing, just the game has moved to focus on things that weren't his forte. And yes, waving his NTC for Buffalo will always be remembered because it's the Ultimate Insult to da Leafs. https://torontosun.com/2014/07/01/josh-gorges-trade-the-ultimate-insult-to-maple-leafs/wcm/c4fd401b-0a28-42a7-b8e8-5454c549d0fb

Find yourself a nice Home Depot parking and scout out where the barriers are ahead of time. For now. In short, Netflix "leases" content for a period of time from the content owner for a cost. When that time is coming to an end, the content owner and Netflix can negotiate how much for the next amount of time. Disney may well say been nice, and the content will disappear off Netflix when the time is up. I can't help think we've all been in a kind of renaissance where people had access to the same content (Netflix + Cable, really) for the most part. It looks like it'll be going into silos where you'll have Disney people, Netflix people, Prime people, and others. Most people aren't going to spend on a bunch of services.

I never put it together, somehow.

Meant to post this around Xmas: I was singing Rudolph to RosePie one night, and got to thinking about the reindeer names. Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen; Comet, Cupid, Donner, Blitzen. What's up with the last two? So I looked it up: Donner and Blitzen translate to Thunder and Lightning in German. They are the most kick-ass reindeer now.
