  1. +1. There is occaisionally a "Naked Elf", which takes out some of the cherry and spices. It's also very good.
  2. Oh, this too:
  3. Generally speak, it's non-pop covers these days. I'm so tired of the standard versions of the songs I have to tune them out. That being said, this has quietly become elite. Backstory: in 1988 (?) my dad purchased a CD player (fancy!) and we got "A Very Special Christmas" (great album) "for my mom". We set up the CD player and put in probably our only CD at the time, and she absolutely hates the album. It's now running joke in our family.
  4. I thought it was "What are you drinking?", but that had a lot of Whishkey chat in it. In any case, I'm riding the NE/hazy/juice IPA fad until it peters out. Love it.
  5. Wait, really? LOL
  6. Maybe if they need a veteran, former 3rd overall RHD. ?
  7. I agree here. If your corner play is sub standard, you work your system to give the corners help. If your WRs are terrible (cough, Bills), you run a lot and play to the TE.
  8. And as discussed too, with so many positions in the NFL, even late 1st or second round you may be picking the top player for some less-desirable position, like corners, guards, etc.
  9. OMG, I sing that to myself whenever I see that menu item. Good to know someone else's mind works like mine. I may have posted this before, but this and Kawaii metal is just so hard to wrap my mind around.
  10. I'm guessing the DeLuca 500 folks would be just as happy over the last 10 with a 5-4-1 record as the Sabres' current 5-1-4, right? :) (that's a solid 0.700, BTW)
  11. With all the GLO talk, I'm now hoping we end up with a JEM line at some point.
  12. That definition seems a little wide, but I'd call it good enough. Eichel meets that bar this season. I also notice we're really only talking forwards and a heavy dose of Centers. Not many are talking Ovechkin, which certainly should be in this discussion.
  13. 0.562. They need to win the next 3 to get to Taro Pie 0.600 (TM) and be on a playoff place.
  14. That's fair, but I'm not sure fear is going to create a work ethic. I think it's more likely to create "f' this place, I can't wait to get out of here". I'll be honest that I'm most versed in it (and that's not saying much) when it comes to being a parent, but here are a few links I turned up. With kids, there are studies around that show kids that are raised in supportive households have better outcomes than strict authoritarian households. The idea is kids with excessively strict parents learn that - they're going to get in trouble anyway, so why not do dumb stuff? and - I better learn to hide my behavior, keep my head down, and only do what's required to avoid the wrath. The hockey parallel is a player that won't try something creative in case it fails because coach will, say, kick him in the legs on the bench. In the workplace, it's more mixed than I give it credit for, but. https://knowledge.wharton.upenn.edu/article/fear-motivate-workers-make-things-worse/ https://www.regent.edu/acad/global/publications/elj/vol7iss1/4ELJ-Thomas.pdf
  15. There's a lot of data out there that points to being supportive and positive ends with better results than being a hard ass. Motivating out of fear usually doesn't work for long.
  16. Houston, The Polish Falcon has landed.
  17. Perspectives on history have always evolved as time goes on, either as new information comes to light or the long-term effects become apparent. I have no doubt the perspective on (say) Civil Rights or the Nixon Presidency were not taught the same in 1980 as when I learned them in the early 90s.
  18. 3-on-3 seems to result in goals often enough that I'd be down for 3-on-3 until someone scores, but the NHL is also worried about time and flights and whatnot. The TV people don't want regular season games that go on forever.
  19. I feel like people don't remember the terrible hockey that was overtime before the 2004 lockout. Both teams played the trap in order to not lose a point and it was a miserable 5 minutes of grinding. For that matter, the last several minutes of the game were the same thing. If they did implement 0 points for OTL, you'd see teams skating 1 center and 2 D for OT and skating the puck around in circles in order to keep it from the opposing team.
  20. At the same time, what Bill Peters allegedly said wasn't OK 10 or 20 or 30 years ago either. I haven't been following this soap opera that closely, but I the ones I do know are: Bill Peters used a racial slur towards a player 10 years ago: not OK now or then Babcock allegedly has been bullying players up until his Toronto firing and Franzen commented about how it happened years ago: not OK now, maybe "the culture" was OK then but it's still an a$*(%*# thing to do Crawford allegedly kicked Avery during a game and punched and choked Sopel: maybe that's the culture of hockey too, and is feeding my growing distaste for sports in general. It certainly hasn't been OK for someone to physically abuse another employee at work for decades, I'm not sure I give the guy a pass for it. So what are people complaining about? Essentially, people here are upset that players are speaking up that some coaches are/were gigantic a$(%*$# and they're tired of it. If I had a boss like that, I'd be out of there in a heartbeat. In sports, there's a such a limited number of jobs players don't always have that luxury and even asking for a trade may end your career. Maybe Crawford has cleaned up his act, and that point I guess I give him the benefit of a doubt that he's seen the error of his ways. Peters can go to heck, racists need to be run out of town. I'm less likely to give Babcock the benefit of a doubt if he cleaned up his act in the future since it's now and I'm completely fine with judging him by today's standards.
  21. Good call. The Taro Pie 0.600 now the new meter-stick for a good team. Also: https://www.lifehacker.com.au/2016/04/taste-test-mcdonalds-taro-pie/
  22. It's time to retire the DeLuca .500, since while it's generally indicative, it has flaws in that if completely ignores OTL points. I'd like to introduce the Pi .600. A team who hits .600 PPG is a good team. You're welcome.
  23. It is wrong that I wish Kane got a better shot in? I'm certainly not an "out for blood" person, but Gudas is one of very (very) few players I wouldn't mind seeing put out of the game with a shot like he normally dishes out.
  24. Hah. Depression is a debilitating illness. At what pay point is "take this job and shove it" OK with you and not a "quitter"? $100k? 50k?
