That's fair, but I'm not sure fear is going to create a work ethic. I think it's more likely to create "f' this place, I can't wait to get out of here". I'll be honest that I'm most versed in it (and that's not saying much) when it comes to being a parent, but here are a few links I turned up. With kids, there are studies around that show kids that are raised in supportive households have better outcomes than strict authoritarian households. The idea is kids with excessively strict parents learn that - they're going to get in trouble anyway, so why not do dumb stuff? and - I better learn to hide my behavior, keep my head down, and only do what's required to avoid the wrath. The hockey parallel is a player that won't try something creative in case it fails because coach will, say, kick him in the legs on the bench. There's a lot of data out there that points to being supportive and positive ends with better results than being a hard ass. Motivating out of fear usually doesn't work for long.

Perspectives on history have always evolved as time goes on, either as new information comes to light or the long-term effects become apparent. I have no doubt the perspective on (say) Civil Rights or the Nixon Presidency were not taught the same in 1980 as when I learned them in the early 90s.

3-on-3 seems to result in goals often enough that I'd be down for 3-on-3 until someone scores, but the NHL is also worried about time and flights and whatnot. The TV people don't want regular season games that go on forever.

I feel like people don't remember the terrible hockey that was overtime before the 2004 lockout. Both teams played the trap in order to not lose a point and it was a miserable 5 minutes of grinding. For that matter, the last several minutes of the game were the same thing. If they did implement 0 points for OTL, you'd see teams skating 1 center and 2 D for OT and skating the puck around in circles in order to keep it from the opposing team.

At the same time, what Bill Peters allegedly said wasn't OK 10 or 20 or 30 years ago either. I haven't been following this soap opera that closely, but I the ones I do know are: Bill Peters used a racial slur towards a player 10 years ago: not OK now or then Babcock allegedly has been bullying players up until his Toronto firing and Franzen commented about how it happened years ago: not OK now, maybe "the culture" was OK then but it's still an a$*(%*# thing to do Crawford allegedly kicked Avery during a game and punched and choked Sopel: maybe that's the culture of hockey too, and is feeding my growing distaste for sports in general. It certainly hasn't been OK for someone to physically abuse another employee at work for decades, I'm not sure I give the guy a pass for it. So what are people complaining about? Essentially, people here are upset that players are speaking up that some coaches are/were gigantic a$(%*$# and they're tired of it. If I had a boss like that, I'd be out of there in a heartbeat. In sports, there's a such a limited number of jobs players don't always have that luxury and even asking for a trade may end your career. Maybe Crawford has cleaned up his act, and that point I guess I give him the benefit of a doubt that he's seen the error of his ways. Peters can go to heck, racists need to be run out of town. I'm less likely to give Babcock the benefit of a doubt if he cleaned up his act in the future since it's now and I'm completely fine with judging him by today's standards.

I suppose it may end up changing the NHL's draft rules though. There's a better path for a player to stick it out in the NCAA for 4 hours and be UFA now. If I'm at year 3 and making some ad dollars, maybe I stick around for year 4 and choose my NHL team. I wonder if the NHL will switch over to something more like the CHL rules for NCAA players.

This is correct, for most Cast type models (Chromecast from an app, etc.) your user device (phone, browser) just tells the cast software in the TV/stick what to do. If you're running a duplicate screen via HDMI, Cast Screen, or some wireless screen protocol, your user device is doing the work and just displaying on the TV. Full vs. Sabres shouldn't matter, they're not streaming all the games to you at once. I think think of a few things that may be affecting things, such as some other wifi in your area popped up since then (your neighbor's new super-high-power wifi interfering with things, air traffic control[0], etc.), or the NHL package upped the bitrate on the feed and your internet/wifi/device can't keep up. For intance, maybe the NHL is streaming 60fps or 1080p now and wasn't before. I'd try eliminating pieces to see if you can narrow it down: Try watching on a computer wired to your router (eliminates wifi, casting issues) Try watching on (hopefully the same) computer over wifi (eliminates casting issues) Check if being close or far to the router matters Try a recorded game vs. live (I seem to remember the recorded games working better, probably because they're not trying to keep the feed so close to real time) If there are options for the stream quality, try reducing things. [0] IIRC, some airport systems are next to the 2.4GHz wifi frequency bands so there can be interference.
