  1. I think "My Country" is England's national anthem with different words, FWIW.
  2. Yep, I'd pick a location at a Police station or Bank to do the meeting, and it'd have to be near somewhere else I need to be so I don't waste the trip.
  3. There's no room in Buffalo for that kind of production. 🙂 Still on the "don't want to give anything significant up (if anything), wait until 2023-07-01 (or whenever it is now) and sign for free as the UFA playoff/SCF vet that pushes the Sabres deep into the playoffs.". Still worried about off-ice stuff, but DG would know I think.
  4. I have, but I'm trying to remember if the sound was on for the anthems or just when the game started.
  5. Somewhere between, I guess. I wouldn't make noise, but I probably wouldn't stop eating or drinking, or walking through, etc.
  6. Blackhawks fans, I assume. I remember some doozies for Derek Roy back in the day. That being said, if you think of Kane not as a 34-year-old vet, and as a #15 point-producing skater (I looked it up, 26/66/92 for 2021-22). Those aren't that far out of whack really. I wouldn't make those trades where the Sabres are, but a team in a position like the Rangers or Edmonton where they're close to the finals might mortgage the future a bit.
  7. I agree. From the sounds of it they're trying to rebuild. He apparently had a good season last year, and with one year remaining I think some team closer to the cup will offer more for a big push to win it all in 2023 (or at the deadline). If he's serious about playing for Buffalo, I'd wait out this year and see if he hits UFA. That's putting aside the off-ice stuff, I still have doubts there)
  8. Yeah. I'd hope that he's grown up some considering he's 33 years old, but I was riding my motorcycle 50 miles down to Philly for beers on Tuesday nights at that age, so I wouldn't count on it. Apparently he has a kid with his girlfriend, that does change a person though. And, with all the negative personal things, I don't think he's earned a chance. I haven't kept track of the whole Chicago hazing thing but if he was involved I'd be wary. People can learn from mistakes, but there are mistakes and there are evil deeds. I seriously doubt we'd be talking about him if he weren't from Buffalo.
  9. So what does Scottish BBQ look like, out of curiosity? There are so many things that could be.
  10. I only remember because the Combine thread was like a week ago.
  11. Eh, people were talking about the Sauves so I figured it was fair game. 🙂 I thought that was the other way around. F him, indeed.
  12. I'm guessing "connections" given the poster.
  13. I'm guessing a lot did, really. For any brother pair, one team got the lesser. This is some solid work here. Also: I don't think anyone has mentioned the O'Reilly brothers here yet, right? Huh: Cal put up 53 pts in 75 games with Lehigh in the AHL this year. Good for him!
  14. In hindsight, yes. At that point, there were a lot of questions about him. It was what, this years All-Star break that the switch flipped?
  15. - Does Jagger have moves like Jagger? - For a minute, I was wondering if he was related to Scut Farkus, but I see the name is spelled different.
  16. Plenty of elevation to come by here in Ithaca, lol. It's not majestic alpine passes or anything, but there are just endless segments like this around. https://www.strava.com/segments/723649
  17. September 30th, 2050. The Buffalo Sabres pioneer using letters instead of numbers on NHL jerseys because they only have 22 unretired numbers left. "This is a great day for the NHL and the Buffalo Sabres. Using letters gives so many more combinations for the players to choose from. 26*26 is 672 combinations; it's unlikely we'll retire that many for at least a few decades," said Sabres President of Hockey Operations Cody Eakin. Head Coach Victor Olofsson agreed, stating, "It's good to see the players and fans embracing this new avenue for creativity. I already saw a fan in the stands with "PP" and the name "Drunkard" on the new Blue, Gold, Red, Black, and Silver jerseys released last week."
  18. An NHL team has a limit of 23 players on the active roster and dress 20 per game. Injured players don't count, so signing a vet to sit in the press box takes away player that can practice and rotate in game-to-game. Plus, I'm not sure there are that many vets that want to sit all the time (either because they're getting old, or they want to make an impression for their next contract). I could see some disgruntlement in the locker room if I feel like the Sabres are tanking my NHL career. Another good point.
  19. I was ~65 this morning when I started, climbed all the way to 70 before I finished, lol.
  20. Apparently the last time I looked at this thread was 2018 and @biodork was posting. Huh. Doing a ride this weekend, https://www.bikesignup.com/bikesandbeers-fingerlakes (30 mile). Had a bit of panic after I signed up without looking at the course; there are some hills around here I 100% cannot ride up. Did a test ride this morning on similar hills as the course and crawled up them without stopping. 2x-3x the Strava KOM times; I'll take it. 🤞
  21. We'll talk about him for a few years, at which point he'll either be one of the 25% that make the NHL, or the 75% (or so) that don't from the third round. Hopefully Buffalo got a deal since (based on the tweet) he slid due to... injury? Put up 30G/61P in 67 games in the OHL this year.
  22. Probably sponsored by ChTZ, I'd guess.
  23. Looking at the draft pick hits, a 7th is something like 8% to play in the NHL meaningfully. But a 4th is only around 20%. Down in this part of the draft, more chances to hit is probably more important than that difference. And getting the pick for free because if for whatever reason the contract could be LITR is icing on the cake. As other have said, extra pick, cap flexibility, and zero consequences? Sign me up. (I don't count the $700k paid out, that's the owners' money and not my problem; cap is the only $ number worth caring about)
  24. The NFL has a handbook for players as the come into the league with things just like this (maybe not NFTs), but watching out for investments, sycophants, not getting into fights in bars, etc.. My guess is this is too new and still not 100% considered a scam, but I'd bet that in the next few years there will be a section if it goes the way it looks. (My knowledge is many years old, but I can't believe they don't still have it; it's worth noting that players in the NFL have likely zero life skills; they go from home to college, with everyone taking care of the star player, to the NFL and are suddenly in charge of their life with a ton of money)
  25. Allen has a kinda Bro vibe about him, not too surprised. I bet they pay him well to do it.
