While I know the feeling, you're only (reasonably speaking) as old as you act. In the last couple weeks I've been partying harder that I did in college and I'm 35. It's a bit tougher to get up in the morning, but if you keep at it, you'll develop a rhythm and it'll work. As for my complaint: I have a really tough time reading some people in social situations. Like, don't have a clue what they're thinking.

I'm on travel this week to Suffolk VA, and Thursday is always Bier Garden night. But it's after 6 and we're waiting on some putz to deliver a couple laptops before we can leave. If I don't get some schnitzel tonight I'm gonna be mad!

Yep, just changed it the other day. It's from last week and since it's more Sabres-themed it seemed apropos. Question for the panel, actual picture of yourself as an avatar: good or bad? It's not an option many use around here. I should have put that in the Friday list though: I went to a party last Saturday based around a backyard mini-motocross race. I borrowed a bike and a couple friends and I tore around the 'track' (it's more of a pretty hairy woods trail with logs and whatnot up and down the side of a hill). It was a *blast*.

:) We'll see. It's my own fault though, I suggested tonight without consulting my printout of the October Sabres calendar.

1> Game tonight, even if I'm not going to see it live because: 2> Date tonight 3> Had a great night last night, some beers and dancing (I had enough beers to think dancing was a good idea) 4> I have a couple rides planned for this weekend and next week, gotta get them in while the weather is OK

Dennis Ritchie has reportedly died. He was one of the founders of the C programming language and UNIX operating system. You guys probably don't know who he is, but odds are almost 100% you're carrying around a phone that uses the language, and if Android or IOS, possibly some of the code he wrote. The computer you're using almost certainly uses bits of code and it does use the language.

I have a date tomorrow night (spoliers for the F'N Friday thread!) and I don't know how to date someone local any more. The last two girlfriends lived out of town, and the one before that our first date was in 2003. Anything changed in the last 8 years?

Larry Quinn? He was a part owner, was he not?

I only way I can stop my brain from hurting when it comes to creation and time and whatnot is that time is simply not the linear progression that humans see it as. It's the only thing that makes any sense to me. There may well be some being, "God" if you will, that can perceive time or the universe in a different way and is therefore omnipotent. I've also wondered if the answer to "Why doesn't God just show himself and remove all doubt?" is that his time runs significantly faster than ours and he nipped out for a beer (so to speak), or that he's busy somewhere else. What I do know is that I don't have the answers, and since I don't think anyone has much more info than I do I'm suspicious of anyone that claims they do.

Sorry chz, condolences. Complaint: I sit in a smallish room at work with 3 cubes in it, next door to a server room. It's fa-reezing in here. I chalk it up to having 1/4 of the servers in the other room (virtualization and bugdet), and 1/3 of the people (budget). There used to be 3 bodies, 9 monitors, and 7 computers running in this room, and now it's down to 1 body, 3 monitors, and 2 computers. I feel like Mr. Rogers; I get to work, take of the bike jacket, and put on a fleece/sweater. It's nice that I don't have to worry about playing music though! :)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cj6ho1-G6tw The first song is just stuck in my head. Plus the bike video is incredibly well shot and pretty. Loch Lomond - Wax and Wire

Fair enough. I'm happy it's a nice day out, and I can work from home with the windows open and the listen to great music[0]. I'm happy that I have a job. And I'm reasonably healthy. And caraway triscuits. And HOCKEY IN ONE WEEK. [0] Like this! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iX_v8lEbVG8

Bump. I have nothing fantastic to report.

I dated a technical editor for a long time. I thought that just meant you couldn't use works like "indefatigably". The logic could be convoluted as you like. :) (She needed to edit software manuals down to a sixth-grade level for non-native English speakers)

I forgot to bring in salad dressing and the company store is closed. I'm looking at 3/4lb of plain spinach, carrots, and broccoli.

I like it! There are lots of kinda-drunk Irish bands, but not as many country ones that I've run into. Thanks!

If you're going to write a silly parody song, it better be "Don't Stop Bill-eveing".

Went down into Philly last night. Hit a Beer Garden (complete with trees and picnic benches), had beer and sausages, and hung out with good friends. Beautiful day/night to ride with no rain (forecast was pretty ugly). Hot tub party in Binghamton tomorrow, and I get to ride some more this weekend despite the rain.

In the post editor, there's an icon in the middle with three multicolor boxes (RGB). Click on that and paste the URL into the box that pops up.

I tend towards the big, heavy classical stuff. Tchaikovsky, Mussorgsky, Rachmaninoff, and the like (it just ocurred to me that they're all Russian too). I had a friend in high school that played those on piano and I loved listening to her. EDIT: Thanks, BTW. You've just picked my music for today in the office. I'll be digging thru all the classical on my ipod.

Nope, we need to blare butt-rock in the arena all the time.

I don't think you have a leg to stand on. I'd imagine you could make some sort of claim that it violates the 40-hour week or something, but that would be the fast track to losing the job entirely.

Wow, it's like listening to the Blues, but it actually makes you depressed instead of cheering you up. Sadly, I can completely relate to Mel on that song, but this isn't the right thread for that.

There's a chain called Fox and Hound that has Center Ice, and quite a few TVs. Looking thru the location list, they seem to be spread out from the East coast to the Front Range and Arizona.
