Well, there's roughly 44% of the population that will never vote for a Democrat. :)

Other than that slight uptick a couple weeks ago, I would have put money on no season since early November.

You're thinking of Rush, not Newt. Someday we'll all celebrate Rushmas, and Rush Hashanah for the Jews. (That's stolen from a song, I'm not that clever. :))

Should have asked the dude on the left about "They shall not shave their heads or let their locks grow long; they shall surely trim the hair of their heads." - Ezekiel 44:20

I'd be surprised if there was any traction before a 41-game season becomes untenable and they're risking losing out on the sponser dollars again. That makes what, mid-January? I don't think it was a coincidence that all the movement a few weeks ago was just before the reasonable deadline for having a 60-game (3/4) season.

Baja Fresh carnitas tacos. Mmmm.

I think that's been disproved as Morgan Freeman, but a great sentiment nonetheless.

Soccer has a way-lower entry cost than hockey, especially in non-cold areas. Sneakers and a ball. Plus, the stadiums are often bigger and the tickets are cheap.

I'd be 100% shocked if your cable company isn't selling the stats on what everyone is watching via their digital cable box.

I'm guessing it's more about the individual than a particular cultrue. Some people love being thrown into something completely different, some people want to do the same thing every day of their lives.

Sly Fox's is solid too, but be warned the spices are pretty forward.

They were less nuts before the copyright on Steamboat Willie was about to expire.

It got so bad when I had cable that I'd have NASCAR Friday practice on during the day since it was the best option.

Philly Eagles whiners. "Boo hoo, we haven't gone to the playoffs in *2* years and haven't won a game in *4*! And going to the conference championship 4 times in a row is the worst thing that could happen to a team!".

While I don't necessarily disagree with you, I suspect this falls into the category that many men reserve for computers, cars, and the ######: you know it's there, you know you should know more about it, but as long as everything is humming along OK you ignore it. :) EDIT: ###### rhymes with Delores. ;)

Spilled most of a bottle of green tea on my kitchen floor on the way out the door to work this morning.

It was being talked about on various twitter and radio shows. FWIW: http://www.thehockey...ting-break.html I think that was part of the hope last week. That was the last reasonable time that they could squeeze a 61-game season in and still get the full sponser money. Now, they've all but lost that money so there's no particular rush before they start getting to the limit of a 41-game season.
-
With the new cancellations, I'm thinking any games played this year is 50/50 at best. I believe a lot of sponsorship money was tied into a 60-game season which isn't going to happen, so there's less incentive for the owners to play at this point. It's just math.

How close are the Sabres to the contract limit (it's 50, right?)? I don't follow the AHL at all, is it normal for teams' fans to complain about the parent club or is this part of the weird inferiority/superiority complex Rochesterians have with Buffalo?

1: the republicans are States' rights unless they're in charge of the Federal government. Same as the Democrats and any other group.

I just bought a Subaru Outback (used) for future-wifey. I may have made a mistake though, she drove my WRX for a few days while I was getting the paperwork sorted out and she liked it too much.

If you were a couple counties over (near Nunda), I'd wonder if it was the guy that did the same for me a couple weeks ago. 74 in a 55, which was honestly a surprise. I had the cruise set to 68 and told him that (as well as saying I wasn't arguing with him, just surprised). He came back and said, "Since you were honest with me, etc. etc.."

You mean "how's my hockey hair, eh?", right? :) Also, does anyone know if it's pronounced Pommin-stine or Pommin-steen over there? ;)

Not really, it's not about moral judgements or anything. I guess I can see where you're reading that into it, but it wasn't really intended. It just seems like those with money find a way around things that the average Joe doesn't. Could I hire a tax pro and deduct things like depreciation of my assets (cars, applicances, computers, etc.)? Maybe, but the writeoff probably won't cover the cost of someone doing my books. My tax rate, according to http://www.taxpolicycenter.org/taxtopics/2012candidatestaxreturns.cfm, is right in the middle of Romney and Obama. I'd be kinda fine with that if Romney didn't just spend 4 months (at least) whining about how much he pays, when he pays a smaller percentage than I do. Mitt, you're luckiler than most people will ever be, and you're leading a great life. Act like it. Stop saying that you "need" more. Looks like Biden needs a new accountant. :)
