Game Discussion Thread GDT: Sabres @ Tampa Bay 7:30 3/26/13
MattPie replied to Doohicksie's topic in Archive
I think Regher needs to be off this team. He contributes nothing to the offense *at all*. When was the last time you saw him dangle thru the opposing forwards for a good scoring chance? Pomminstein should read him the riot act, or else he's a buyout candidate. (note: I actually typed Pomminstein for effect. ;-)) -
He temporarily changed his handle to "Ghost of biodork"/

I lived down the street (100 yards, maybe) from Sly Fox some years ago. That *was* trouble.

On racing, while I like F1 in theory, the races can be boring at times with the lack of passing. The best races are the rainy ones, because everything isn't as locked down. FWIW, MotoGP and World Superbike (motorcycles) to me combines the crazy tech of F1 with (generally) a lot more passing and better racing. I fully admit being a bike guy though, I may be biased. Looks like WSBK and MotoGP are still on Speed Channel. I'm also pretty excited that some new episodes of Top Gear have shown up on Netflix recently. I finally got around to watching the India special this weekend, good stuff.

Reamde by Neal Stephenson. I'm not going to say his books are great works of literary art that will stand the test of time, just entertaining. Think the Divinci Code or Indiana Jones but with a decidedly geeky shift. Essentially, written for people like me.

Oh, forgot: Angkor (Cambodia): yellow beer Bayon (Cambodia): light yellow beer Note that "Yellow Beer" is what I would call Bud, Molson, Coors, etc., generic American-style lagers.
-
Nope, but they probably should have been when Kane put a high-angle shot thru Leighton to win the cup that year.
-
Does the helmet have padding on the outside or just on the inside?
-
Unibroque (SP) Trois Pistoles is quite nice.

I think the cigarettes were probably the first thing I've smoked in years. I was at one of the villages (the Karen tribe, with the women with the copper coils on their necks), and they were roughly $4 for 20 (bound in a rubber band). The odd think is they look like a small cigar with the tapered end, but you light the tapered part.

Southeast Asia Beer review: Sing-ha (Thailand): yellow beer Chaing (Thailand): yellow beer, with slightly more flavor than Sing-ha Tiger (Singapore): yellow beer BeerLao (Laos): yellow beer, with a little bit of incense which was a nice change Cambodia (Cambodia): yellow beer Kingdom Light (Cambodia): yellow beer Kingdom Dark (Cambodia): an OK amber, with notes of caramel and licorice Also, Burmese cigarettes are like little cigars made with green-ish tobacco. Not bad.

I do like the idea, and if you watch the old games the boards used to give more. IIRC, awhile back (10-15 years ago) they found that the seamless glass that was going into new arenas gave less than the older glass with individual supports. The problem was the old pieces of glass weren't connected to each other, where the new style was tied together at the tops. I think all the rinks have since converted to using the older style glass, at least in the ends of the rink. But for the padded boards, I think it's a decent idea with two caveats. I haven't been down by the boards in an arena in awhile, but you'd have to make sure they aren't going to hit the first row of fans. The other thing is you wouldn't want the actual boards to be soft on the outside, since a player coming in at an angle would catch on them as opposed to slide along them. Trying to head off that soft-helmet debate from last year. :)

I haven't been to merge myself, but according to my wife it's OK, but not great. Trying to make everyone happy (with the meat dishes) but not really excelling in anything. Buffalo isn't that vegetarian-friendly, so I can understand it from a business perspective, even if it's disappointing.

So wait, that was Nabokov talking to Roxanne? Odd. -
FWIW, one of the best meals I ever had was at Horizons, a vegan place that was in South Philly. The chef's new place, Vege, is also really, really good. One of my favorite places to eat. But I do like meat too much to give it up. I think one of the issues with perception of vegetarian and vegan food is tofu, and the other meat substitutes. They're substitutes for foods we omnivores know, so they'll never match up. The best vegetarian food I've had wasn't trying to be meat-based dishes with an alternate protein, and they've been some of the best dishes I've ever had.

I'm guessing that's the Andrew Peters fighting boot camp?
-
I'm not trying to bust your stones, but apparently the plurality of his assists came from passing to the defence.
-
Yeah, had that at brunch the other day. OK, but not spectacular. Bought a 6-pack of 21st Amendment Saison cans. I like it, but I've been drinking it while doing other things so I haven't put too much thought into it. Sadly, I think I have to go on a beer hiatus for the next couple weeks unless someone knows some good Thai beer.

Seconded, the Ranger is really good. Seems like I've seen the Ranger at the local (SE PA) Wegmans, but I might be mixing it up. It's in Virginia for sure.
-
I've give you that, but I can't imagine the Sabres would spend much time scouting Div 3 schools for hockey talent, just like no one else did. There could be some phenom playing down at Leisure Rinks, should we have the Sabres sending scouts down there to make sure, or send the scouts out to the big-name junior and college programs instead?

Ryan O'Reilly - Get Him At All Costs - Who Do You Trade

Dreger: O'Reilly details more clearly: 2 yrs .. 5M AAV ... 1m salary this year and 2.5 SB ... 6.5M salary next year. $5m? Well, that's not too bad. For 2 years it's a pretty good span for the kid to prove himself. -
I think Miller is clearly the problem, I mean, when was the last he scored for us?
-
Well, after camp. 30 GMs passed on him in each of the 7 rounds. :)
-
And the other 29 GMs, too! Can't really fault Darcy on this one, he apparently came out of nowhere.
