  1. Makes sense. Since I was only watching while getting ready for the day, all I saw was a batter protecting the stakes and sometimes running; I always had to leave for work before the end of the coverage. I seem to remember a batter just kinda "giving up" or retiring. Is that a thing too?
  2. The Sabres have successfully set my expectations. I'm tried of seeing teams that are OK and never get top-5 draft picks. I'm fully on-board with a horrible season and some high picks.
  3. There was a England v Australia match going while I was in Portsmouth in.. 2007 (one of those multi-day matches). I got a handle on the scoring after watching it in the mornings for awhile, but never got a chance to see how batting order and sides work. It's also odd to watch a sport but not know whether the score is good, bad, or normal.
  4. I wouldn't have been standing that close, but I would have watched it. I'm a sucker for experiencing things most people aren't likely to.
  5. I get your financial analysis, and it make sense. Except, who were they going to spend all that money on in UFA? Doesn't seem like there were many players out there that would be worth it, especially with Buffalo into even worse contracts than those players got since they'd have to offer a lot to get people to look here (as the prevailing wisdom goes).
  6. That's not what was ocuring in the Toronto video, this one was holding pressure until the water came through. The Toronto lid was releasing all the pressure.
  7. I have seen it, but not in this thread yet.
  8. It's venting pressure, so probably not that far, and straight-ish up if it does. Mostly likely it ends up on edge releasing all the pressure, or just barely off to the side.
  9. Looks like Eid al-Adha is generally in that time frame. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Muslim_holidays
  10. I heard they used a Compliance Buyout on him. Hahahaha.
  11. NYC (to differentiate from WNY) pizza is lame, not nearly enough structure and crust. Most Philly pizza I've had is a poor imitation of NY pizza, but the Sicilian style (thicker crust and usually square) is the better of the two options. Measuing the servings is the key there. As long as you're honest with yourself and have soime restraint it's not *that* hard to lose weight. Speaking for myself, at least. Once I got serious about paying attention to what I ate, I lost a similar amount of weight as you mention, eventually totalling 70 lbs in 10 months.
  12. Thanks! Yeah, that stuff is pretty good. They have it at the Wegman's here, always tempted when I see it. Thanks for the Dechutes tip, my wife used to live that way and Black Butte Porter was her go-to. Seems Deschutes is setting up distribution on the East Coast so you'll start seeing more of it around. A pretty good list of places, I've been to most of them. Damn, now I want to go out tonight.
  13. I think he's in Richard Cheese's band.
  14. I'd take "quiet" and "non-traditional market" to mean he doesn't want the media bitching constantly. I wonder how he feels about the desert, no one there will be bothering him.
  15. I guess the better question would be why would Buffalo do that?
  16. They'd have jacked it up for the 4th no matter what.
  17. Forget that, I love the "Rising Sun" ref uniforms.
  18. Do you really think the Sabres' brass is paying attention to that? That's what's known as generating traffic for your web presence*. it's no different than when @BuffaloSabres asks, "Who was the best Sabres forward of all time?" or "Which weck is the best in Buffalo?" * I think those are the Web 1.0 terms, there's probably new terms for Web 2.0.
  19. Quick, pick one those guys up to buddy with Catenacci!
  20. The draft, to me, read like the Sabres stocked up on D (obvs) and hard-working 2-3 line forwards. My guess is they expect to pick those 1st line guys through FA (somewhat unlikely) or in the draft next year (expecting a lean year this year). I'm OK with that. If we pick and trade for two 1-15 picks in 2014, seems like a decent plan as D take longer to develop. Knowing the Sabres, they'll be plucky upstarts enough to pick around 10 again and screw it up.
  21. Hasn't the window on that closed? I thought it was 48 hours or something.
  22. Feels kinda dirty, doesn't it? But it is a great town to have beers and eat. Shame they can't make wings or pizza to save their lives though.
  23. To be fair, I think he probably played on the PK for a month or two in his entire career around that time frame.
  24. I remember the Grog being pretty good. Last had it that Saturday day game Sabres vs. Flyers in April.
  25. Interesting. I wonder if the teams that the Rangers "Matched" last time around would be thinking to pick him up on waivers. He has a big contract, but what are the odds he gets nearly as much from someone in UFA (again)? We all think it was an overpayment, but there's probably at least one GM out there that thinks it was situational and he'll play better.
