Hockey is a game, not a "sport" by my strict definition. Personally, I wouldn't have hockey, or any team games (as opposed to relay races or something similar), as Olympic sports since the outcome isn't determined by raw measurement. But that's just my preference; I will watch the Olympic hockey if I happen to see it on NBC (without cable, I have a pretty limited selection of stuff to watch and I don't think I'll bother with streaming)

Hired: Tim Murray, GM and Craig Patrick, Advisor

I'd say Ehrhoff fits exactly into Darcy's vision of how to build a team. Slick, puck moving defense that would QB the powerplay. Leino seemed like he would fill in the hole at C, but that was a bust obviously. If he'd worked out, he'd also be a Darcy-type forward, not particularly physical but can skate with the puck. Maybe the method of getting those players was a bit different, but the players themselves fit the mold. -

Why not? You've been squeaking along with a certain amount of cash, and suddenly your ship comes in and you're flush. Wouldn't you? -
It wouldn't surprise me if the 10% drop from Buffalo to their new teams is in part due to the league changing from the free-wheeling post-lockout officiating to more like you see now. It'd be good to list games played, since if one was hurt for awhile it would affect raw points. But yeah, that doesn't look like a decline to me. EDIT: oh, and starting a new thread about Drury and Briere would probably be ill-advised. I *think* we've discussed the subject at some point. :) :)

This might be one of the most ridiculous threads I've seen.

He let himself be passed by Weber? :)

Snowboarding, at least the free-style stuff, is figure skating that guys can watch without being ashamed. :) Think about it: a person sails along, jumps and twists a bunch of times, and unless you're really into it, the jumps look mostly the same. Then they finish, and unless someone wipes out, some numbers pop up that can kinda be related to what you just watched. (and as a skier, I 100% understand how hard all the freestyle stuff is, I'm not belittling it at all, just that it's one of these subjective things that I can't really get excited about) I like these definitions: - Game/match: anything tracked by points or some other goal-based measurement system (curling, darts, hockey, etc.) - Contest: anything that's primarily subjective (free style skiing, figure skating, etc.) - Sports (I'd love a less-general term for this): activities that the winner is determined solely by time/distance/weight/speed (most of the skiing, speed skating, etc.) To me the "real deal" is on the last category, but I don't begrudge anyone wanting to watch the other stuff.

Man, Pulse has really thrown the gauntlet down. Let's see if the scrapyard girls answer the challenge.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eratosthenes Not really a formula per se, he noted that on a particular day each year, the sun would shine directly down a well in one city. He measured the angle of the shadow from a tower in a nearby city at the same time. Using that angle and the distance between the tower and well, he calculated the circumference of the earth. Pretty slick.

Creationism exists because many people need an explanation of how the world and universe began. Every time I try to think about it, my brain hurts and I revert back to "we as humans perceive time to be linear and it's not". That's the only explanation that makes sense to me. I suppose it could be a supreme being that kicked things off, but then my brain hurts when I try to figure out how that being came to be. As for Religious Science, that strikes me as "wordsmithing" to lend more credence to religion. It reminds of in the late 90s when everyone had "Engineer" in their job title because engineers were somehow more credible or desirable. In any case, I'm going to go continue my study of Beer Science, where I determine what beers I like and therefore are good.

I'm curious what O'Reilly would have gotten without all the drama resulting in offer sheets and whatnot. I wonder if his salary would have been more in the open market and Calgary was trying to nab him cheaply.

Depending on how stable your job is (as in you'll be keeping it for awhile), get over to the house early a few times and drive in from there. You might end up with surprising traffic or other issues with the commute.

Just some samples: Binghamton NY: 1AM Sunday-Thursday, 3AM Friday and Saturday Ithaca NY: 1AM (including sales at grocery stores and whatnot), bars can stay open until 2AM without selling (which is a nice system) St Mary's County, Maryland: 2AM (might have been 1AM on school nights, I forget) Philly area: 2AM NYC: 4AM

Anyone up for a Kickstarter that we all chip in to buy an old tank, paint it Blue and Gold and donate it to the Naval park downtown? -
The best moment I heard about (didn't watch, no power): Q: What would cause you to change your mind on this issue? Creationist: Nothing Bill Nye: Evidence

Without doing a lot a analysis, I think you'll find that any team that's -50 it'll be pretty rare to find players that are +. Edmonton has 7 guys on the "roster" (players that have played this season) that are 0-5 points, and only one of those players (at +2) has played anywhere near all season (39 games). Interestingly enough, the Pens have 12 - players, 5 even players, and 15 + players. 7 of those negative players have played 30+ games.

Being offline for a couple days, I've lost track of this. But my main point there were Russian pro teams from at least the 70s on, and those teams were plenty good enough to hang with NHL teams of the era. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Summit_Series https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_Series_%2776

Folks, while I do eat Mighty from time to time when I'm in Buffalo, the sad fact is: Taco Bell < Mighty Taco < average Mexican place < Baja Fresh/Q'doba/Moe's < really good Mexican place

1> Playoff run (not in Buffalo's case) 2> Fear that he might agree on a deal with another team in a trade-sign arrangement. If you wait until FA, you're hoping he doesn't sign with the Rangers or the team he gets traded to.

There were and are other professional leagues than the NHL.

I hope you didn't get that Impala that we drove up a rocky trail in AZ every morning to start a generator for a piece of gear, or the SUV in FL that my coworkers took mudding. :)
