  1. I saw a talk about "Urban Farming" awhile back, and a large part of it dealt with pants that will or won't pull things from the soil. I forget all the details, but I do remember that mustard greens do a great job of pulling toxins and whatnot from the soil. Might be worth a bit of research, since I believe that after a number of crops the soil would be sufficiently clean to grow other stuff.
  2. Watched "the Breakfast Club" last night while updating my wife's laptop to Windows 7. Not I can't get this out of my head:
  3. Risto did not play in Canadian Juniors, he came up thru Finland (Sweden?). EDIT: The rule is in place so the Juniors don't get gutted by the AHL (for better or worse). As soon as you end up in CDN Juniors, you're there until the end of the season you turn (19 or 20), you play in the NHL, or your junior team gives you up (rare). Zadorv is in juniors, so (I think) he's Juniors or NHL next year (no AHL). Girgensons was in the USHL so he can play in the AHL or NHL.
  4. Interesting, although down around the Skyway isn't exactly far from the Peace Bridge, and could tie into F'N/Harborcenter with shared parking and amenities.
  5. Wow, that's crazy. I wonder how much of the Report stuff will get carried over. Yep. A casual, button shirt. For example: http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/91pKoMFd97L._SL1500_.jpg I like Polos (I have one on right now), but realistically they're adult T-shirts. They feel more business casual than casual to me, and they too seem strange with shorts.
  6. I get what you're saying. Sure McDavid would be nice, but I think the rationale for the "rebuilding" next year isn't just him, it's another top-5 pick, whomever that may be. Then, you hopefully build around those 2-3 top 5s and the more recent top-15s. That's the right way to build a "core". The core idea isn't a bad one, the main problem with the previous core is they just weren't good enough players or leaders to put it together.
  7. That's part of the whole Heartbleed thing. Folks should read up on it, it can be fairly serious. I'm not going as far as saying the Internet is burning like some of the media is, but I wouldn't go out of my way to log into banking any whatnot for a few more days.
  8. You have to be dripping for seer-sucker to show, generally speaking. I remember my wife looking at me while we were in Cambodia, and saying, "wow, I finally understand those shirts, you barely look like you're sweating". It was 100 and 90%+ humidity, I assure you I was soaked.
  9. A pair of lightweight cargo shorts (never, ever, gym shorts), nylon or light cotton would be best for the heat. A button-front seer-sucker or linen shirt. I love seer-sucker; I think it wears cooler than a t-shirt. Of course, I dress like I'm old according to my wife, but I think it's more like 45 than 55. :)
  10. So more like this?
  11. I thought I saw a spectator with it on on TV. Not the last game, but before that. Oh, wait, that was Leino. Never mind. (In all seriousness, I did see someone in the seats around the bench in one. I remember this because I thought to myself, "I wonder if they won it or if it was a gift.")
  12. So I'm trying to look at a couple basic numbers to figure out if Ovechkin is helping the team or not. Of his 50 goals, 23 are PPG, so that means 27 ESG. He's -34, which means he has been on the ice for 61 ES GA (not counting any PK time or SHG against), right? That's a quarter of the teams 237 total GA, where his TOI is around 20:00, or a third of the game. He's accounted for 50 of 226 GF, roughly 22%. I don't really have a feel for the numbers, but it *almost* feels like he's doing more harm than good, as absurd as that sounds.
  13. The first is fine, the second is questionable. For the total losses in comparison to team history, you have to remove any SO losses since pre 2006, those would have been ties. If you like, you can remove the SO wins and make those ties too.
  14. I don't think when we're talking "history" you can count OT losses in the same way with the whole SO loss thing. So yes, this is a bad season. Probably the worst Sabres season ever. You don't need (questionable?) statistics to determine that. :) You know what? I'll take another season of the same. I have enough going on that seeing the Sabres lose a bunch of games is fine with me as long as there can be some hope in the long run. I've watched 70+ games this year, and it's really not having the negative effect on my brain that I thought it would.
  15. 2+2=5 only for very large values of 2. I heard this morning that KFC has a trial of some sort of sweet and sour cup in Baltimore, which includes funnel-cake fries and chicken. KFC is also in the "eh, screw it" camp (other than their "healthy" chicken with no breading). A guy I know thinks they're better than the wings in Buffalo. I think he's a meth-head or something; he should know better as he grew up in West Seneca.
  16. I don't think TM was worried about the Islanders 1st round pick at the time.
  17. :w00t:
  18. That's just messed up, you'd think 90% of people (at least) would be pissed and ready to show STL what they gave away.
  19. The only problem is very few 20-year-olds have any choice in the matter. I like McCabe's statement, but he was either playing in the Sabres system or college for another year (at which point he'd be UFA (right?)), so it's not like he's really choosing the Sabres over anything else. Perhaps there might be a player that forgoes signing a contract at 20 to play their last year in college and then signs with the Sabres, but that's a tall order. You flash more money than most of us will make in a decade in front of a 20-year-old and he'd probably skate wherever you tell him.
  20. I don't disagree that it sucks, but they have to pay real people to make their software work with newer versions of Office and Windows and that money has to come from somewhere. Oh, to be young and single... :)
  21. At least I didn't say associate.
  22. FWIW, I planted one of those "Live Basil" plants you see at the grocery store a couple years ago. By the end of the summer I have a 4 ft. tall basil bush in my next to my front door. It's great if you like Italian food!
  23. There can be only one (and two assistants)!
  24. I'm kinda with you. He seems OK, but I'm afraid he's just not big enough to play D if he's not a point-producing machine or bring something else, because I don't think he'll be able to defend against a lot of forwards.
