  1. I was thinking the same thing. Once you get away from the tourist areas, it's like most big cities. The biggest difference is with the number of people (and the massive subway system), stuff that would appeal to a small percentage of people can make a go of it because a small percentage of 10M is a lot.
  2. I know, I know. It's just that to most people in the US, Buffalo and Lake Placid might as well be neighboring towns (an hour or so from NYC).
  3. I'm not sure that's true, how does cap hit for a player in the AHL on the two-way vs. one-way work? Does the NHL team take the NHL-salary hit whether the player is making the NHL $800k or AHL $60k (on a two-way)?
  4. Yes, BUFFALO will drag something out of obscurity. :)
  5. It seems pretty unlikely that an ISP would block a range of IPs like that, but not impossible I guess. I'm trying to remember the stage name of the girl from my HS that is now a porn star, but I can't. I can barely tell it's her with all the work that's been done.
  6. Best suggestion I have is to set a good example of good health and gently nudge her to join you. Swap out "let's get a pizza and 50 wings for movie night" for "let's go for a walk around the neighborhood/river/park/cellblock".
  7. Is that how the law works though; can the sheriff or another agency require that someone turn in their guns (or confiscate them)? I think it's a pretty good idea in theory, although readily abusable if you subscribe to the idea that the government is just itching to take away your guns. "You've criticized the town supervisor, that shows your mental health is suspect".
  8. A Major Tom? (as in turkey)
  9. My wife is right, she's always telling me this place is like a smaller version of Facebook.
  10. No need to go that far, there's a Jellystone just past Java on 78. http://www.wnyjellystone.com/
  11. A friend who lives there reports there are a bunch of good breweries in Missoula. That's reason enough for me.
  12. I'm just picking a few things up that I didn't see discussed, most were already addresses by the high-quality posters here on SS. But in this case, CA-shooter (I refuse to learn his name, this was an act to get attention and I won't give it) legally owned all the weapons used. I don't think he actually did anything illegal until he started stabbing and shooting people. I realize this is the worst-case scenario for the NRA, a legal gun owner that starts blasting away. Can the NRA admit now that some people shouldn't own guys? The devil is in the details, but I think it benefits society for there to be a mechanism to "relieve" people of their guns if they exhibit some behaviors. I know the NRA would flip out (and partly rightly so) about tyranny, but when someone starts going off the deep end something should be done. Unfortunately, this is where registering guns comes in too. It's a ###### problem, but "crazy" people aren't going to self-regulate like the NRA folks think they will. How many of those people who go out and arm themselves are really going to spend the time and money to learn how to properly handle a gun? I'm sure Sorority Girl will be spending her afternoon at the range once a month to refresh her skills and keep in practice. She'd be just as likely to miss too. I've seen how much effort people put into the craft of driving a car, and frankly that level of effort in learning to shoot a gun is terrifying. Again, it's a ###### problem because frankly the public is too distract to do things the "right" way, so we need to determine what is more dangerous to the "rest" of us. But they left the Bill of Rights open to being Amended just like the rest of the Constitution. If they never wanted those amendments changed, why didn't they specify them as immutable or something? We've already declared one Amendment null and void (Prohibition), why are these special?
  13. Don't worry, they'll slowly reduce the size of the $1.49 bag until it's down to the .99 bag size. Speaking of Salt and Vinegar, my sister-in-law loves them and claims Herr's (based in SE PA) has the best she's had, to the point of requesting we bring them up when we visit. If you see them, try them!
  14. Neat! You can't get this kind of analysis anywhere else!
  15. My wife and I were talking about it yesterday, and decided that Health Care works are amazing since there's no way either of us could do it.
  16. Not all of them, keeping looking for a good one.
  17. That does sound like a cool trip.
  18. Sorry, that's BS. :) Kelly Drive and/or MLK Drive in Philly are closed on a fairly regular basis for events but they're very useful roads otherwise. West Side Highway in Manhattan is regularly closed for various runs and walks too. Not that I'm equating the usefulness of those three roads and the Skyway, mind you!
  19. Rolston Centipede at 4:40 or so!
  20. You're not listening to the right music of today. It's a terrible song, but...
  21. Shiva plays goal. I think her only soft spot is the 11-hole, between the 2nd and 3rd arms on the left.
  22. Beat me too it, damn. That was in 2002, I assume the other years too.
  23. In other news, the South will rise again.
