  1. Can someone refresh my high School Civics: let's say the public was really, really against this decision. I don't think Congress can make a law to change it, right? It'd have to be another SCOTUS decision or perhaps a Constitutional Amendment, right?
  2. I feel like this is an important topic, so I'll chime in on various things brought up. I'll often post things that get no response. I figure either the point wasn't very good or my logic was so unassailable that there was no point in discussing it further. Please let me think it's the former. I suppose if you're a new person that might seem cold. Grammar police: if I see a poorly worded (or spelt) post, I know that I discount the opinion somewhat. I probably miss out on some good things, but really this is fun-time and I'm not going to force myself to do unpleasant reading. I do make an exception for our few international posters, of course. There/their/they're (and with the Buffalo accent, I'm surprised we don't get more "dare"), however, drives me up a wall. To be honest, I think that's the way of the world so being able to coherently express yourself in writing is more important than having your feelings hurt on the internet. I rarely correct anyone on here, but I hope anyone that sees issues in my posts speaks up and corrects me. I need to learn as much as anyone. Threads: I like fewer threads because I'm going to read everything and it reduces the number of duplicates. The worst was when every. single. thread. inevitably ended up discussing how much Darcy/Lindy sucked and you had to read nearly the same post from probably the same poster in 4 different places, and then *HAD* to respond to clear up their misconceptions. ;) Fewer threads seem to reduce that tendency. I like the culture of this place, it's intelligent and usually reasonable as long as you don't post something ridiculous.
  3. I think that's what I got too. And a lot of the questions I was thinking, "well, I guess that one is closer than the other". My wife (and I, I suppose) are livid. Not having had a chance to read more about it, can a company just decide it has a deep-seated disagreement with (expensive) cancer treatment?
  4. Was it as Trolltastic has Coulter? I was at a Mexican restaurant during the game, lots of fun. Until the end.
  5. Didn't Grigorenko say something similar when he was drafted? We're waiting. Eh, close: “Eleven teams didn’t draft me so too bad for them. I’m No. 1 pick for Buffalo Sabres.”
  6. There was a caller on the radio talking about how the first pick should go to the best of the last 5 teams so they have a reason to compete. All that does (along with a bunch of other schemes) is move the "tank" around in the standings. If you're sitting at 24th or 25th with a week to go in the season, you're going to be hoping to lose down to 26th and get the pick. I'm not sure if a team would really forego a playoff series in hopes for the pick most years, but you never know this year.
  7. Where's that Hershey Fireworks quote from bio?
  8. Jellystone Park in Java is reasonable too. :)
  9. I guess the real question is if a player is dead, can the team choose to keep the player on the books to reach the floor. :)
  10. I don't want to sound condescending, but: DUH. Based on Crosby, whomever gets McDavid is going to reap a ton of Marketing and Merchandise dollars and National TV exposure, plus probably be in the playoffs for a solid string of years. The BOG (owners) would be stupid to NOT try to make a play like this in each's own self-interest, but it comes off as bush-league and short-sighted (because it is). McDavid will be playing in Buffalo for sure. 1-3 games a year. I think everyone will be less stressed if they accept that now.
  11. It should probably be noted that you could smooth out the odds and still leave last place at 25%. Just not have as much of a curve downward from picks 2-14. 25-15-10-7-5-4-4-4-3-3-3-3-2-2 (I think, I'm not really adding that up). I doubt the NHL will leave last place alone, but it's possible. This does show why the BOG should be left out of some decisions: the tyranny of the majority.
  12. PO box in White Hall MD? :)
  13. If a player is dead, can we put him on LTIR?
  14. I dunno, Hodgson is 49th in points for centers this year on a terrible team. If the team gets better and he picks up 15 (to 60-ish) more points he's be in the low 20s. That seems like a solid #2 Center. That would put him at #6 or so second-line center standings. That kind of points out what the good teams are doing: they have two centers in the top 20 in points. Hodgson could be a decent #2 (given that 15 more points is reasonable).
  15. I thought the US's passing was horrific in that game. Like watching the Sabres play soccer.
  16. Cuba, el gato es muy grande! Marty McFly.
  17. I'm interested in how the FA "Frenzy" goes with teams being able to talk to players ahead of time. Seems like it'll be rather likely that agreements will leak out and it'll be a Frenzy like a bunch of posh society Brits finding out the last Beef Wellington has just been put out at the buffet line. That is to say, almost completely, but not entirely unlike what normal people would call a frenzy.
  18. Probably. That being said, there's a time limit, right? I think you lay the groundwork ahead of time and have both Edmonton and Calgary's "best offer" before, right?
  19. You have to pronounce that Ehhhhhhhht to get that Buffalo nasal short-"a" sound.
  20. I'm glad I'm not the only one. That being said, I went to THE State University of New York at Buffalo. ;)
  21. I they're just pointing out that you shouldn't drink (or give your kid) an endless supply of OJ. A glass per day if fine. Complaint: my motorcycle hasn't moved in over a month. Sure, that was at the end of a 650-mile day and a 2600-mile week where I wore out the sides of the tires before the middle but I need to ride.
  22. And McNabb! How soon we forget.
