  1. We're going to play 40 games by the end of September?!?
  2. Made paella on the grill Saturday. I love making that dish, it takes awhile put you're outside with a drink and (hopefully) friends. My buddy brought over stuff to make Caipirinhas, which is national drink of Brazil (apparently). Brazilian rum is kinda like Tequila, so the end up being margarita-like. Really good Saturday.
  3. Yep. Can you trade an injured player? If so, I suppose Buffalo could trade for an injured Ehrhoff to then use the Pronger plan on him. It would depend on if the other team would benefit more from whatever Buffalo gives (mid draft pick?) or by hosing Buffalo's cap.
  4. (As I understand it) That would be true *if* we wasn't already making the same as his cap hit ($4M) now. If the Sabres trade him and he retires before the contract is up, the Sabres take all of the recapture penalty and the other team none. The other team isn't getting any cap benefit (paying more than the cap hit) so they get no penalty. Essentially, if Ehrhoff retires before the end of the contract, the Sabres take a hit no matter what. He's been paid $10M more than his cap hit, and until 2017 he's not making less than his cap hit. If the Sabres trade him before 2017 and he retires, the Sabres penalty will be that $10M divided by how many years are left on the contract. If he retires 2 years before the contract is up, it's a penalty of $5M/yr for 2 years. If it's the last year, the penalty is $10M for that one year.
  5. I'd like to thank Univision for putting games on regular broadcast TV. Now if they only had an English language feed on the SAP. :)
  6. What about an AHL-quality team playing in the NHL?
  7. Why do you think the Pot should be be one of the very few goods that should be tax-free?
  8. If Frank Lloyd Wright was still alive, I'd totally have him design "Frackingwaters" for my family to live in. :)
  9. And that's my point, where is the PR, the article, the tweet making it official? I won't believe it until I see it. I have this horrible feeling.
  10. GBiD: Y'all best stay down there in Dallas for a bit.
  11. He's on waivers yesterday, has he passed yet? When do the $125 waivers or buyout start?
  12. Try the kale and quinoa patties from the Wegmans deli case, they're pretty good!
  13. I find this lack of Leino news... disturbing.
  14. The only caveat is if he immediately trades for a center, but I doubt anyone is going to give up a prospect of Bennet/Reinhart/etc. caliber in a trade.
  15. I heard on NPR last night a story about Univision's coverage of the World Cup. (Side note: I'm mad at myself that I didn't think to check Univision to watch games since I get it on my antenna (but not ABC)). Anyways, during a match involving Costa Rico, the Univision announcers were calling the one Afro-Costa Rican player the Spanish equivalent of "the black guy" or referencing his dreds, "the hair guy". "Ruiz passes back to the black guy, back to Ruiz, to Cubero, to Mr. Hair".
  16. Yep, lots of good UFAs will be banging down the Sabres door to go 20-52-10 next year. Hopefully, they'll all take overpaid short-term contracts so we can dump them when the team gets good. In reality, the only way the Sabres are going to attract players is overpay them in both money and years. Not many players are going to sign up to "The Sabres should be good in a couple years just when my contract is running out" vs. "The Rangers have a shot next year" or "The Pens are retooling a bit for a few more runs before Crosby/Malkin are too old/broken". Paying extra sounds fine now because we have cap space, but I'll be pretty pissed if we have Hecht or Leino-like albatross contracts hanging around when these promising draft picks are looking for their next contracts. (I didn't mind Hecht, just not for the money he was getting paid)
  17. Meeting one: "we're buying out Leino." "Yeah, it hasn't been good. Have you called around to see if anyone wants him?" ".... Not.. really..." "OK, tell you what: make a few calls and if by tomorrow nothing turns up, cut him lose." Meeting two: "Yeah, I got nothing." "OK, cut him lose. It's only money."
  18. I'll just leave this here: http://msn.foxsports.com/buzzer/story/ryan-fitzpatrick-named-texans-starting-quarterback-061714?cmpid=tsmtw%3Afscom%3Anflonfox
  19. Sure, and next you'll tell me he can't play center either.
  20. So where does the line get drawn? If the accused detained is a citizen? If the crime happens on US soil? What if the crime happens on a slippery slope? This country was built on the premise that you couldn't throw people into a hole and forget about them for any reason. The deny any person that fundamental human right goes against everything we are.
  21. I REFUSE TO BELIEVE THEY'D JUST GIVE UP ON HIM!
  22. I think he means that (unlikely as it may be), someone might actually trade something for Leino. I can't really imagine it, but maybe a low pick or a different albatross contract for Leino. But, it's due diligence to make a few calls and find out.
  23. But from the sounds of it, Callahan is looking for something more like $6M+/6+ yrs. That's too much and too long.
  24. William the Conqueror might make an exception too (or do Normans not count)?
  25. Personally, I like Bulleit Bourbon and Rye, and they're not too expensive either. Scotch is a bit tougher, since there's a huge variation between basic blended stuff (Dewars, Chivas) and single-malt (MacCallan, Lavulgin (SP)).
