    It would make sense to start at 5 or so, but I don't know how you fill up the rest of the time. Starting at 5, if the #4 team is announced that means someone made a big jump forward and people get excited because they don't know who and won't until it's announced. Of course, if they put more spots in play in the future it'll be more exciting with this format.

    This is exactly what he should have been for *this* team of young players. I wasn't nearly as down on him as others either, he made the best of what he had. I don't mind Cody Mc, but no one is going to think twice about doing something that requires answering the bell to him.

    Nope, cap hit is cap hit. total money/years. What you might be thinking is cap recapture, which involves contracts that end after the player is 35 and are front loaded (more money early). In that case, if the player retires before the end of the contract, the team that gained the benefit (paid more than the cap hit) in penalized.

    Sweet Jeebus, these all seem like good moves with reasonable (if a little over) payments. I don't know how to fit this into the "Everyone hates Buffalo" framework. Oh wait, yes I can: the league is slipping these guys money to make sure Buffalo finishes at #4 and misses out on McDavid/Eichel. Order restored in my head.

    Rival is a stretch for the Sabres and anyone for the next few years. Maybe they figure by time the Sabres are good enough to be a problem, he'll be gone.

    I'm betting there were a large number of teams that would have loved to assume Ehrhoff's current contract. $4M/yr for a good D? Sign me up. None of those teams offered up enough that would make the risk to the Sabres ($10M in recapture) worthwhile.

    Fixed. I've heard that the government will pick up the tab on those things, but that's hearsay and I won't stand behind it. The problem isn't the particulars, but the grand scheme where it's apparently OK for some employers to decide there are certain things they don't feel like covering.

    Well, when he had a real chance of going to Florida it's probably relief. Thought process on seeing Omark's name: Oh, yeah, that guy. What year did he play with the team again? Crap, this year? Either he made no impression or I'm getting old.
