That's odd, further north (MD/VA/NC) they just hang out in the left lane in case there's a merge coming up. It does seem like the style is to only change lanes when required, never pre-emptively. If you end up in the left lane, you're going to stay there until your exit comes up. If you pass someone on the right, you end up staying on the right until you come upon someone slower. Unless you get into the mountains of western NC (although it might just be on a bike). Whenever I ride down there, they are the very courteous about getting the hell out of your way. If you come up on someone on a twisty road, they'll almost always pull over or slow down a ton so you can get around them. I don't know if they're just nice or there are PSAs on local TV (moto-tourist money is a big for them), but it works.

I'm with you Hank. I wouldn't bet that there are a significant number of potential hockey fans in the Greater TO that aren't already watching the leafs. The team would succeed, the building would be full, but it would 90% former Leafs fans so the league isn't adding new fans to the numbers. A team in the PNW or midwest would be bringing in new fans; I'd guess that there aren't that many "active" hockey fans there, but some would becone fans if there's a team in their own. (Active means buying gear and/or tickets to games)

How about a Colossus of Rhodes-style statue next to the 190? -
Prost! I haven't been to a game in the past year or two, but I usually make at least one of the Philly games, and I've been to games in Raleigh[0], DC[1], and MSG[2] in the past. Sad as it is to say, I don't think I've been to a game in Buffalo since it was the MMA in the late 90s. [0] Game 1 of the ECF (the original rape and pillage game, I think I still have one of the glasses. "It's in our Blood" hahahahaha) [1] There have been a few, but one was the game after Mike Grier was traded to Buffalo from DC [2] Rangers scored 4 goals on Miller in the first half of the first period. :(

So you're arguing that Democrats are interventionists (by getting involved in wars), but FDR should have been more interventionist in the early 30s (when the nation was skewing very non-interventionist)? I'm not sure where you're going at this point. I don't see a way that anyone was going to "stop" Hitler short of going to war. Obama seems to be skewing non-intervention (out of Iraq, trying to get out of Afghanistan, trying to stay out the ISIS stuff in Iraq until it was clear the Iraqis weren't going to save themselves) but he's being painted as being weak and wishy-washy on Foreign Policy. I'm so confused.

If you like, post where you usually sit in the comments (100s, 300s, owners suite, on the bench (hi drew!))

I guess this belongs here, I don't think it's worthy of a thread. Three sleeper teams, one of which near and dear to us: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/emily-cornelius/3-nhl-sleeper-teams-that-_b_5760566.html?ncid=txtlnkusaolp00000592

Wiki lists the Metro area at 1.1 million. If you take the entire area it's 2.3M (including Provo and Orem), which I guess it nothing to scoff at. That being said, Seattle metro area is 3.5M people (which includes Tacoma, which is as far from Seattle as Provo is to SLC). So the question is, why would SLC get a team before Seattle? I'll admit I don't know much about SLC. Are there any big businesses in the area that might reap some sponsorship dollars? I know Novell is based in Provo (and it seems like there's another high-tech company out there too).

Interesting, the hospital we were at specifically banned everyone other than staff for that exact reason. I guess it's well founded.

SEASON PREDICTION! Someone a few pages ago said the Bills were going to go 8-12, which amuses me since it is plausible. So in that light: The Bills sweep the Jets and Dolphins, both being decimated by an Ebola outbreak. The Bills avoid the bug as since they worked one day in Toronto last year, Jon Bon Jovi pushes to have then vaccinated as part-time residents in Canada's socialized medicine plan. Rob Ford made the decision, saying to reporters "[suuuuckkkkk, cough, cough] yeah, why not.". The Pats win both games against the Bills, despite being down to cheerleaders and the Dropkick Murphys due to sickness. After week one, it's determined that the Pats have clandestinely bugged every NFL stadium and the entire coaching staff is suspended. The Bills hold on to win against Chicago. AFC East records: Bills 5-11, Pats 4-11-1, Jets 3-12-1, Dolphins 2-14. (Jets and Dolphins and Pats all split up their games). Buffalo is the worst team to ever make the playoffs, the league starts to rumble that next year the last divisional winner may have to play-in against the 3rd wild card. Lingering Ebola effects and freak weather allows the Bills to win all three playoff games, 15-14 over the Bengals, 3-0 (OT over the Colts), and 31-27 (over the Ravens). The Bills are the first team the make the Superbowl without scoring a post-season offensive touchdown. The 4 TDs in the Ravens game are a fake punt, a kickoff return, and 2 Pick-6 by Mario Williams. The Bills lose the Superbowl the Seahawks in record fashion, 75-21, all three Bills TDs on long drives by EJ. Final record with Playoffs, 8-12. Bills fans talk about how next year is their year as long as cholera makes a comeback. Cheers!

I think it's pretty funny you think someone calling out your bias is ad hominem given the first part of your post. In any case: yes, you can call Lenin a liberal if you like, since he did essentially the same thing as our founding fathers: threw off the chains of monarchy. Unfortunately his policies after that were full of ######. Stalin doesn't count, he's a class A bowel movement and he was just working in the same framework he was given. That's the problem with revolutions, it seems to be pretty rare that the folks that are so fed up with the government as to overthrow it often can't resist filling that power vacuum themselves and punishing those that disagree with them. The American revolution may be one of the few large-scale revolutions that didn't fall into that trap. The Brittish Civil war (Cromwell et al), the French Revolution, and Russia certainly didn't. If you'd like to talk about some positive liberal causes, we should be discussing Lincoln, the women's sufferage movement and the civil rights movement in the 60s. Those are unabashedly liberal, are you ready to say those causes were a bad idea?

PA texted me an update. All is said was: FLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOSH - sputter - sputter over and over again.

Perhaps you can start a hermitage. Bonus points if you put it in Hermitage.

I'm not entirely sure I'm reading this right, but a group of individuals that fight to create social change (especially in the direction of equality for "everyone") is pretty much the definition of liberal. Conservatives generally want everything to stay the same.

I'll sometimes do that to save my knees, but usually not. I almost always take the stairs up. Also, walk to the far end of the building to use the can instead of the one just down the hall. Every little bit helps. Complaint: baby time dilation. hours will pass doing tasks that should only take a few minutes without me noticing they've gone by.

Same here. Funny how that works.

I'm so glad I'm back to the board for this thread.

Prediction time: Which player will take the biggest step up in 2014-15?
MattPie replied to nfreeman's topic in The Aud Club
Just a quick comment on the All-star game. While that would be nice to have more, you have to figure Buffalo only sends one player to the All-star game, but Myers has a much chance as anyone. Just doing the math, there are 16 teams in the East. Each team seems to have one player (you have to keep the fans interested), so that's 16 players locked in with one Sabre. If another Sabre fills one of the remaining 5 slots (12 F + 6 D + 3G??), Buffalo is having a way better year than expected. -
I think you're generally correct, but the big problem is corporate money for boxes and whatnot. There just aren't as many big companies in Canada that are going to buy-in.

Huh, I don't remember seeing that when I was there in the spring. It was the off-season though, maybe it wasn't open. Dog Street Pub wasn't bad though, ended up eating there twice since most of the other places were a bit too fancy-pants.

Congrats in advance! If you're a first timer (like I am), my tips for the hospital trip are: don't bother with "entertainment" stuff like books or even movies. We dragged a bunch of stuff in there that we never touched, you won't have time. The only thing we did watch were a DVD or two worth of Scrubs episodes (seemed apropos). Only take a change of clothes or two, you won't have time to shower every day. Ideally, have you hair cut in such a way that it looks good straight out of bed. I lucked out that my hair looks OK in all the first pictures even though I hadn't cleaned up or slept much in the last 24 hours. Since it was November or so, more like the Bills.

You can say all of that 100 times over. RosePie, 2 weeks old today (picture from about 3-4 days old):

Do u think Buffalo has any interest in Kevin Hayes

I'm not sure I care what Johnny U. (Unitas) thinks about this. ;)
