Top 2015 Goaltending Prospect - Mackenzie Blackwood
MattPie replied to MBHockey13's topic in The Aud Club
Having gone through the fiery ritual of having to name a baby recently, it's surprisingly difficult. You're tagging a person with something they'll have for their entire life. We waited right up to the end before officially putting a name down ("you really need to fill out the paperwork before we can discharge you"). You want it to be unique but not crazy (we told people we were going to name her "Starshine Bottlerocket" to get them off our case ("Torque Ripcord" was the boy option)). In our case, the kid's going to be spelling her last name to everyone unless she changes it so first names that require spelling were out. My wife doesn't like names that end in "e" sounds because they sound cutsie. And finally, my last name ends with 'a' so names that ended in 'a' were out (we didn't want to rhyme). That's a lot of restrictions. (We also joked about "Ruella Barbara Pie", so her short name would be Ru Barb Pie.) -

I love that Eye-gor shows up in that image search... -
The the way it's supposed to work, but I have little faith that it will. In my slanted view the Republicans have shown no interest in anything other than their way or the highway. While I generally agree, I'm not sure this is the time to make that point. At the moment, "them" would seem to include our old friend Russia which certainly can be affected by defence spending.

You forgot Brodie. -
Being a year older makes a lot of difference when you're talking 17/18 years old, but that is encouraging.

Fixed that for you.

I think you mean Iechle. :)

I wonder if they'd ban people for throwing Leafs hats on the ice for other teams' hat tricks. :)

Thank you. Yeah, he was so stressed out and hated being a head coach he interviewed for a few more HC jobs immediately.

Realistically, it's a good idea. Adding another top-2 pack to the Eulers probably won't change things with that team, they've been doing it for 5 years and it hasn't gotten them anywhere. They're rapidly getting to the point where picking high in this draft may not ensure that they won't lose Hall to FA (picked 2010) before this new player is fully up to speed. The haul they'd bring in for a top-3 pick in terms of NHL players might be exactly what they need. I'd be a bold move though. I'd think you'd be talking about giving up your first rounder (let's not assume it's not #2 like the Sabres will be, but something like #10), 1st line wing, 1st pair D, another good, young D, 2016 1st(?) and maybe a G if there's a good one. That gets the Eulers what they need, and you better hope that #1-2 pick is everything you hope.

Yeah, too much. I made the mistake of reading the last two GDTs before watching the games; they weren't on GameCenter as they were on local TV (Philly and NBCSN). It's going to be tough to push through these two.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R3JetOoEngs, jump to 9:06. I'm sure there are other ways too. My local Wegmans has tempeh bacon in the hippie section; if you try it on it's own merit it's not bad. It doesn't stand up well with real bacon though. I'm interested in this smoked paprika and mushroom idea now though. I have some good paprika in the spice drawer (both dolce and picante!) from making paella and Patatas Revolconas (Spainsih mashed potatoes with garlic and paprika). I could see that working well for mushrooms (or maybe Brussels sprouts).

Who is the goalie when this team makes a run?
MattPie replied to CallawaySabres's topic in The Aud Club
Eddie Murphy. -
He was also playing on the third line, if I remember right. The whole reason he wanted out was he was behind two good centers and couldn't get ice time. Also: 20 goals from anyone on this team would look pretty good right now. Most of the people here (at least as I recall) are in agreement with you: 5 (maybe 4) years away from being a contender. Anything else is too optimistic for my taste. To sum up: 2014-15: We're talking Proud (but playing like ######) 2015-16: We're talking Proud (and actually winning some games) 2016-17: Magical run to #8 2017-18: Wild Card/Top-3 whatever-division-we're-in bubble 2018-19: See: 2014-15 Islanders (I have faith that Murray won't set things back a couple years like Snow did) 2019-20: ???

Especially when we're talking about a nice winter Saturday after a cold snap. :)

Tim Murray - Poor Spender? - Cap Jail?
MattPie replied to Ghost of Dwight Drane's topic in The Aud Club
There's stirring the pot, and there's stirring the pot. This is a latter. :) Murray hasn't given out what I'd consider a bad contract yet. Gorges and Gionta could become questionable depending on which way they trend, but they'd have to get a lot worse before I'd worry. -
He has 2 goals this year, so he can keep the G. FOR NOW. I've noticed that too, he looks at times like he's playing and even taking the body. They're not Kaleta missle-style hits or anything, but he'll hit a guy trying to get puck.
-
There's still time! :) I think your time scale is way too compressed. If everything goes swimmingly, the Sabres squeak into the playoffs in April 2017. Contender is too far out to really bet on. I'd like to see 2018, but really I'd bet on two years of 6-8 seed before anyone is talking contender. Don't set yourself up for a fall man, I'm hoping to see Sabres hockey in June 2020, I won't let myself get more optimistic than that.

I like Cy Hgsn, makes me feel like the Sabres have the first Welsh-speaking NHL player!
-
Props on this. :) That being said, the current name in the title (Cy Hoosn) has way too much O.

Hey-oooooooooh. :)

FWIW, my wife and I have had discussions about various things (moving to the PNW, Buffalo, going to Peru for vacation) for several years now and that doesn't mean we have some evil-genius plan to make it all happen. "Hey Terry, we should buy the Bills some day when Ralph sells the team." "Yeah, that'd be awesome.". That's a discussion. "Wow, Ralph died yesterday, should we put a bid in on the team?" "Yeah, I think we should."

Game Discussion Thread GDT: Wild At Sabres 1-15-2015 MSG 7PM
MattPie replied to Brawndo's topic in The Aud Club
So from the front page, Myers will be playing in front of the net on the PP tonight. Well, can't make things any worse. Who is it here that keeps on saying we should try Myers on wing? Maybe this is a stepping stone for that! -
Mezaros and Benoit are definite boom-or-bust and cap moves. 1-yr, modest money. If they end up playing well they get traded as a rental (or if really good, maybe signed), if not, walk away at the end of the year. It's a great experiment if you're not counting on winning right away.

You're of course free to cheer when the other team scores, but that's really bad form. Most of the folks here had adopted root for the Sabres in the micro sense (while watching), but wanting them to lose in the macro sense (for the season). It's a great coping mechanism since win or loss, you can take positives out of it. "Wheee, they won a game!" or "well, that'll help the draft position." FWIW, I'm sometimes #2, never #1, and with a small child in the house, never drink enough to get to #3. You forgot #4: have the game on while cooking, reading, working, etc.. That's my jam.
