  1. I still don't understand what's going on in this thread. :) The only BAE I've heard of before has a facility (or did) near Binghamton where they make, among other things, hybrid-electric busses and trucks. Used to be British Aerospace Engineering (I think) but now it's just BAE with no meaning.
  2. The math (1 - lottery odds for first pick year 1) * ( 1 - lottery odds for first pick year 2). If we the sames year as the example, it'd be (1 - .25) * (1 -.2) = .8 * .75 = .6 or 60% chance that the last place team doesn't pick 1st either year. Note that the odds changed over the summer that's why the numbers are different from year one to year two. For fun, watch this place after the lottery to see who is bad at math (hint: people claiming Buffalo got hosed or whatnot).
  3. Well, there's a 100% chance of getting a great player, with a very small chance that player will be a bust. Better than picking 10th where a bust is probably a 40% chance.
  4. Yeah, a couple of "good" NHL players is better for the team's future way more than one potentially great NHL player.
  5. Can I sue the NHL for my injuries afterward?
  6. I pulled the image into and editor and the RGB values suggest blue and brown. One image I saw easier suggested white, but I can't find it now. I'd laugh my ass off if it's a tech trick where the web server rotates the image it sends randomly between a white one and a blue one.
  7. That's may be the most ridiculous thing I've seen in months. I guess someone doesn't have a clue how to drive in the snow.
  8. I get the feeling that Nolan thinks that if you put someone on the 3/4 line long enough, they'll become a 3/4 liner but retain their skill. I'm no coach, for sure, but I think some guys just don't have it in them.
  9. Duh:
  10. That's a pretty simple view, that's not what it's all about.
  11. Well, there's already F'N Fantastic Friday, things that are awesome, and the boobs threads, why not another? ;)
  12. No forward pass: think rugby (or those last second multi-lateral plays in football).
  13. ;)
  14. Maybe this should go in the Awesome thread, but Google translates "Pie" as "Pirog" (as in, the singular form of pirogi). I love me some pirogi (or pierogi).
  15. The few times I get to work early in my job, I just end up working more because I keep getting asked for things well after my 8 hours are up. If I get in at 9-10, there's no one left to stop me from leaving at 6.
  16. It's been going back a few years, at least for backups.
  17. There are going to be a whole generation of goalies that can say, "my first game/win/turning point was against the Buffalo Sabres" "hey, mine too!".
  18. I think we're a little close to the question, so it seems obvious to us. Most people in NYC don't know where Buffalo is, or that they have a hockey team. For $200, which MLS (Soccer) team features a pair of elephants on the front of their jersey? That being said, most of the times I saw Cash Cab, I'd ace it, but once in awhile I miss all of them.
  19. The anti-stats folks hate the concept that "hits" aren't necessarily a good thing, because in order to make a hit you by definition don't have the puck (same for blocked shots). It's easy to say, "well that's stupid, of course hits are good", but the logic is there. As with many things, you shouldn't look at the raw numbers since those are easy to skew. Raw Blocked shots isn't a useful as, say, percent of shots blocked while player X is on the ice crossed with TOI, but the the anti-stats folks are still stuck on "blocked shots ARE always good!". I'll take the guy that blocks 2 of 4 shots while it's on the ice vs the guy who blocks 5 of 10 in the same amount of time. I'm an engineer, I like to think that most of the physical world can be described by math in one form or another. Sometimes we don't understand the math or even know what to measure, but I really do think there are more ways to measure hockey than just goals and "that guy looks good tonight".
  20. GCL: the other day my PS3 GC was doing exactly what you were talking about, although it kept making me log back into Playstation Network so I chalked it up to that. As for "as many devices, etc." I never thought to look, but I'd be surprised if it wasn't a case that you can watch on any device anywhere, but not more than one device at a time.
  21. Cow Lilly? It doesn't abbreviate to CH, this thread has jumped the shark. It was good to see Corcorov Hodgivnikov mixing it up a bit last week.
  22. I love the idea, but you have it backwards: the 2.71s have two games out of hand on the Sabres.
  23. It was mentioned on the radio that "things will get started at 7PM", so they're going to fill an hour with something. That might count the local pre-game show, though.
  24. My advanced stats tell me it's only bad for 10% of the players on the field at the time, although you can argue how much each player is involved.
  25. Get them repaired? I'm sure there's a cobbler somewhere in Rochester. It'll be an old guy that's been repairing shoes since he was 13 during the depression or a tattooed hipster.
