off topic Professional Womens Hockey (Coming to Buffalo)
MattPie replied to That Aud Smell's topic in The Aud Club
The one thing I wonder about is the draft of Juniors. It works in the CHL/NHL since there's enough money to make it worthwhile for the players, but I'd be hard-pressed to move to another city for what (in their own words) is a part-time job. What if you have a job offer in Boston for your field but Buffalo drafts you? Does the team get compensated somehow if you won't play? -
Witnesses report Boyton said, "Ah-yoooooooooouuuuuuuuuuuu [chomp] yip yip yip."

So what you're saying is you wish the media would not be a negative towards white males? That sounds like you're hankering for some Political Correctness. :) Complaint: "We're moving your VMs to a new internal cloud and shutting down our cloud; you won't see any difference other than the web interface to manage VMs" has been misinterpreted as "we're shutting down [my team] entirely and your servers are going to disappear" and customers are out buying hardware because they think we're leaving them high and dry.

I think you're overstating things, but I generally agree. It'll put the Sabres into contender but the Pitts show that they might only get one cup. :)

I never thought he'd make it this long, so I have the uber-clip: (@1:36 if the time skip doesn't work)

iflscience is reading an article about the Sabre-tooth Buffalo that roamed the plains 30,000 years ago.

At best you could say he was looking for the rebound figuring one of his three team mates was going to take the man. Yeesh.

Nice, LOL.

It'll be interesting to see AZ and TO battle it out. Buffalo will hopefully be smugly looking on from 24th place. :) EDIT: and, it'll be interested to see all the enraged TO writers complaining about the tank. Yeah right.

14 balls? really? that's a really odd number.

I was going to say maybe it's just an artifact of the rounding process, but it's also possible that they looked at the numbers and decided that the team in 10th is normally only a handful of points out of a play-off spot and at that point those teams have a chance but it should be really small.

Every player will have their own conscious or unconscious calculation of those factors, so you can't really group "players" together. Josh Gorges didn't want to play in Toronto because he didn't like the team, I can't see Kaleta playing for Chicago if there's a reasonable offer from Buffalo, etc. I'm sure many players pick whomever pays the most.
-
Yeah, it's strange. But I'm guessing they too a smooth curve and then rounded things to 0.5% increments to keep the numbers easier. With 0.5% increments you could have 200 balls in the hopper. If you did 0.1% increments, you'd need 1000.

With the exception of Miller, the others went from semi-starters to backups or vice versa. Apparently it's a lot easier for a goalie to get into a rhythm with regular work, plus, each knows that at least for now, playing well will get you more starts.

#20: 20. He [bowness] had success in Boston, survived expansion chaos in Ottawa and had small opportunities with the Islanders and Coyotes. “Experience develops confidence,” Bowness said. “You have to be honest with yourself.” Would he go back and change anything? “A lot,” he replied with a laugh, declining specifics. He paused when asked how coaching is different now. “That’s not a simple answer. Every generation changes. There’s a lot more individual attention. How you push. Learning who can handle certain instruction and who can’t. Players want to know how you are going to grow them on and off the ice. There’s a lot more teaching. Coaches used to say, ‘Work harder!’ Now, when a player hears that, they say, ‘Give me something! I want to know how you can make me better.’”

I thought he was more of a pocket passer. ;)

I think you're dreaming, really. I don't see anyone trading out of 1/2. Ever. Especially if you're talking about the 2016 draft that even if you go 0-82, you still have a 40% chance of picking 4th.
-
Eh, he's two years older and has 49 less points (though 7 more goals). I'm not too worried. :) What I am worried about is there's apparently a "State of New England" that I had no knowledge of.

I wasn't watching that closely, Nolan said there were three guys (forwards, I assume) that didn't play much because they didn't earn it. Since I assume Grigs wasn't one of them, who didn't play towards the end? Nolan: “The work is never a concern, but the lack of experience hurts you especially when you are playing against experienced teams, you need everybody and we didn’t have everybody tonight. We went down to three lines and three guys didn’t play, didn’t deserve to play, and didn’t warrant any ice time.”
