  1. Yes, but it might say "the team's 3rd" not "a 3rd", so Buffalo might not be able to send on one that's traded for. Someone upthread mentioned that if it's the team's 3rd if affects offer sheets because I believe that does say it has to be the team's pick (not a traded one). EDIT: beaten to the punch, I'll get you for this, Malooga.
  2. Well, he's only legit once he gets to 1000 posts. Welcome.
  3. "Bylsma's rise to an NHL head job was a rapid one, which is pretty apparent simply by his age. He began coaching in 2004 as an assistant with the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks of the AHL, before being promoted to an assistant job with the Islanders. New York's staff was canned at the end of the 2006 season when the Islanders brought in Ted Nolan, forcing Bylsma to return to the AHL." The plot thinckens! Or, get a Wegmans sub and some beers, (in PA) eat it there, and then grocery shop. Very pleasant week night shopping trip. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D876BJwd7HY&list=PLPpaacsXSWWD52yNkN6uYhjRmdYZ7VsUV
  4. Trades are a microcosm of the free market (sort of). In any transaction, both sides have to feel they "won" otherwise it wouldn't happen. No one is going to sell something if they think they're getting a bad deal. They may complain about the deal (and maybe outside observers would agree), but they deal doesn't happen unless both sides are relatively happy with the outcome.
  5. As a observer with no stake in this, I'm curious why you went with a 30-team league when there's only like 16 people picking.
  6. Well, I hope at least the second part is true.
  7. Clever!
  8. What's the read on Colin White? If he were to slip a spot, the Sabres would be pick BPA *and* from a position of need.
  9. I love the Genie/Jeannie part, but, why were you snowblowing in the rain? How about that party game where each takes turns continuing the story, piece by piece? more my speed.
  10. It's good, although it's the 60s distopian version of a war movie so the soldiers are all kinda crooked. I haven't seen it in awhile. I saw it once, and it wasn't bad but it seemed a bit overdone and sappy if I remember right. Maybe if I can find it to stream I'll give it another shot. !!!! I watched it not-too-long-ago and I thought I holds up pretty well. I didn't watch much this weekend. I used to watch old movies a lot more when I was younger, but who has the time now? I spend almost all Sunday and Monday digging up my yard to put mulch down. Not my primary idea of fun, but it makes WifePie happy and adds some value to the house. I did watch "The Longest Day" (Also: the Longest Movie at nearly 3 hours :)) Sunday night. I tried to watch 12 O'clock High last night but I was exhausted and fell asleep before Gregory Peck showed up (really early in the movie).
  11. Great movie. I've actually been to the bridge (although the current one looks nothing like the movie). It's a really cool part of the world, the hills/mountains are very steep and rugged and the people are super-nice. I hadn't really though about movies to watch the last few years. It used to be a tradition that I'd pop on AMC or TCM and leave it on almost all weekend. Now without cable it's a little harder, but between Amazon Prime and Netflix (and some DVDs/CDs) I should be able to put in a good effort.
  12. Fake Japanese Librarians is more your speed?
  13. "After the break, is GMTM covering for Babcock? And, what if it *were* all true!"
  14. That well and good, but it doesn't really answer the question. I've certainly thought "well, if <whomever> can get close I'd rather go with them even if the money isn't exactly the same".
  15. Maybe you're right. They questioned Gorges sanity, but he's not Team Canada's coach.
  16. I'm going to be mad when Buffalo plays Philly in the playoffs and I can't buy tickets in Buffalo because of my address.
  17. And I'm sure that NO ONE in the Leafs org was livid when Gorges came here.
  18. I don't look. Especially with the name changes this season. In this case, Mr. eman takes the Phil Spector-esque "wall of text" posting format that, which automatically discounts the post. I know that's petty but I'm a lazy reader and this is supposed to be fun. Then, there's factual errors: something about Eichel re-entering the draft next year and being angry at math (20% chance at McDavid) to start. And last, when these things are pointed out, the poster gets cranky that we're picking on him. We're not up to "FIRE LINDY RUFF NOW" levels, but it's on the spectrum. Let's face it, new posters come in blazing all the time. The fall into three categories: when you point out "culture" issues, they roll with it and become "members"; they take the Tank4GM path and stay cranky for awhile but show real promise and become (grudgingly :)) respected members; or they flame out and disappear. I'm hoping eman takes one of the former two paths, new voices are good.
  19. But would the Toronto press if it had played out the same way? That's the question.
  20. You guys picked up on that, huh? I think the name I used was French, so maybe I'd cast Gerard Depardieu for the role. :)
  21. Complaint: I've refrained from posting for the last day or so trying to come up with something awesome for post #5000, but I'm not clever or motivated enough to write something I feel reflects the gravity of the situation. I thought about posting up the beginning of my action/comedy short story about an NHL player who is so bad the Front Office tries to have him killed, but that's still in pretty rough shape. So this is it: post 5000. :)
  22. The two dates I should be in town for are "meh", Sheepdogs and one of Led Out or En Vogue.
  23. Anyone have a reference for that? If I remember right, he said something that a few people though meant that, but the rest of us thought was pretty innocuous.
