  1. You could just as easily say that if he had started at a normal age he'd be broken by now too.
  2. Thank you for writing down what's been bouncing around in my head whenever I think about this thread. :) #4 is intriguing. People like to embellish their heroes and repeat things without checking the facts. I see no reason why that would have been different 2000 years ago. Actually, I'm mildly surprised that it still happens. I have two examples: Washington throwing a silver dollar across the Potomac. I remember hearing that when I was a kid (in school, even), but it's just not true. Even if there were silver dollars at the time, the Potomac is a mile wide where Washington lived. I kind of what to go up into Western MD where the Potomac looks more like Caz Creek and do it though. :) The facts thing is even more surprising, since most of Western society has a global network of facts at our fingertips. For instance, a couple days ago someone posted a image on FB saying, "Food stamps shouldn't be accepted in restaurants, Like and Share if you agree". The implication (to me, at least) was that they were and this is a bad thing. The problem is, food stamps aren't accepted in restaurants. Facts, schmacts.
  3. Me too, but I don't have a metric ton of money laying around so I might need to stick with consoles.
  4. This is where statistics lie, the NFL doesn't consider half of the guys playing for the Bills actual quarterbacks so the hits and sacks didn't count.
  5. I've had a few Flying Dogs, and they're good but not something I seek out. Currently in the fridge: the last few Bear Republic Hop Rod Rye (DIPA) from a case I bought a couple weeks ago. This is one of my wife's favorite beers, which is why it disappeared so quickly. I have most of a case of Victory Headwaters Pale Ale that I picked up on Saturday. I have a lot of yard work to do and I can't be downing 8% beers and expect to survive for long. Headwaters is rather hoppy but under 5% so I can have a couple without the headache of drinking strong beer in the sun.
  6. Did anyone say NHBruinFan yet?
  7. That's not the point I took from that quote. I read it that you were saying that it's only interesting because it's being reported by the "MSM". FWIW, I didn't get it from there, I saw it on the Facebook "trending" panel. I'm not sure how that fits into your model of how news propagates.
  8. Do you really feel that the killing of two people, that most of the people in the area would have seen on TV before, on camera, live, isn't interesting in it's own right? That seems like saying that goals in hockey weren't on the highlights no one would care since there's 30 SOG each night and they're all the same.
  9. That is a fantastic book. Fool by the same author is great too.
  10. Almost as bad as Rex's truck.
  11. I don't think any Sabres fans should say anything about D-depth after the 2006 ECF.
  12. Red is often associated with fascists. (I'M KIDDING!)
  13. Maybe the Kentucky Bluegrass is where the confusion lies.
  14. How has Florida's crime reduction matched up with the overall national crime rate? It's easy to say, "look, the crime rate has gone down in Florida!" but if it's only kept pace with the national averages (and specifically with places that haven't liberalized gun ownership), that correlation isn't causation. Work harder on the nutjob problem. Increase funding to mental health treatment and awareness. And when he doesn't resign, and does get fired, we'll be hear about how there's a war against religion.
  15. Playing Devil's advocate here: who gets to decide who gets to have guns and who doesn't? There's a reasonably large portion of the gun lobby that truly believe that it's their job to own guns to stop the government from turning into a dictatorship. Giving the government the ability to say, "You don't get to have guns because you're, uh, crazy (for speaking out against the government). Those guys (who happen to be very supportive of the government) can keep theirs." could get pretty ugly. I suppose they have a point, but I'm not sure how to balance that with keeping guns out of the hands of legitimately crazy (or even impulsive) people.
  16. I agree with the body-cues and whatnot, which is why I mentioned meeting somewhere else first. I wonder if there's a "rating" system where you can rate/review your hook up's profile accuracy and performance to warn future visitors. In any case, this smacks a little of how afraid you (royal you, not LTS in particular) are of "the public". It's pretty well known that a large percentage of the population isn't bad, so the odds of running into a "bad" person is actually pretty slim on a per-time basis. I have a few friends that have ridden motorcycles (and bicycles) solo through area considered to be pretty dangerous (Africa, Middle East, South America, West Philly, etc.) and have come out unscathed and said they met a lot of wonderful people.
  17. As much as I want to bang the home town drum, the only people that say that are the people that live there.
  18. First and second para whole post: I'm really not seeing how that's all that different than going out to a bar or club with the intent to hook up. It's probably even a little safer, as there's a "paper" trail if something bad happens and a person can't follow you out of the bar. The safer course is probably to shop at tinder, then meet out at bar or coffee shop for a sanity check and then head to a bed or spacious restroom.
  19. I think those are those little potatoes; those make the best salt potatoes, especially if you include some reds and blues.
  20. That's a lot of work for an off-handed comparison. :) Thanks. In any case, it reinforces (at least for me) what has been bouncing around in my head: a player like Stafford won't be a central cog in your Stanley Cup team, but he's sufficient to play on one unless you're loaded on RW. Can Stafford play center?
  21. I'll take your word for it, I don't follow the Hawks that closely. I was thinking, though, does it matter if a player is having a down year or an average (or exceptional) if the numbers and play are the same? (as in, a good year for Stafford == a down year for Sharp).
  22. Smaller than Ink's, larger than pencils.
