Revisiting one burning question about Terry — why did he buy the Sabres?
MattPie replied to Stoner's topic in The Aud Club
I'll say it again, I barely watched the Sabres in that time period too (although I did understand the team was for sale). If I had a couple kids and a growing business to manage, I can see it slipping though. I have one small child right now and for all the time I spend here, I can't tell you with certainty how the overtime 4-on-4, 3-on-3 stuff works nor did I know much (if anything) about Coach Challenges until getting whapped in the face with it during game #1. I also consider myself a Bills fan, but I'd be hard-pressed to name more than half a dozen starters and their positions this year. When in 20 years I'm in a position to buy both teams, I'll slink away because clearly I'm not a real fan. -
Row of people dressed as empty seats: Shhh, don't make any noise or the ushers will realize we moved down. I think it's JJ that's rooting with mixed loyalties tonight.

One was picked #2 overall, the other #13 overall; that's the most meaningful comparison.

Believe it or not, once or twice a year you get to do something you want when you have an infant. :) Let's put it this way, if your choice is Sabres playoff game with an infant or stay home, what are you going to do? I know I'm taking RosePie, even if the night is a disaster. Sometimes you have to gamble that things will go well and everyone comes out happy.

I think it to a certain degree depends on the person too. I'm really mono-tasky, so I cannot hold a conversation well and drive at the same time. It doesn't help that I tend to be a fairly focussed driver. I can listen to talk radio however and get value out of it, but if I'm expected to respond I'm hosed.

Sliding scale: - McDavid, Crosby, etc.: look at that super star showing some grit. - Pominville, Toews, a Staal: that doesn't look good, but that's not a dirty player so it must have been an accident - Ott, Marchand, Dorsett: that dirty SOB, he should get 10 games - Kaleta, Avery, John Scott: I hope you like the AHL for the rest of your life

Nonsense, EVERYONE knows Millennials, just like Gex Y and Gen X before them don't hold the same values as their parents and are going to be the downfall of human civilization.

There *are* still forwards on the team that aren't centres. ;)

I don't disagree, other than I think those numbers have shifted up over time (as one would expect). Seems like they computer/cellphone numbers are the same as they were 10 years ago. I know lots of people my parents' age (late 60s) that use social media and have computers. People that bought computers for their kids in the 80s and 90s are retiring now and most probably didn't give up the computers when the kids moved out.

Social media isn't exactly a random sample of the population, it has definite income, age, and even race biases. And we're talking about people who a year out are really excited about a political candidate. Yes, they're voters, but I highly doubt it's an accurate picture of all voters. Your implied point that you never see any pro-Hillary stuff (on my feed) is a good one, but when you're in the lead your supporters tend to get complacent and not shout constantly about how great their candidate is. I think Sanders is a great candidate and has a lot of the right ideas. The primary thing that gives me pause is that if the Democrats do nominate him does that give the Republicans a better shot at the White House? A Republican-majority Congress (I'm not sure what the odds of that are) and any of the lackluster Republican candidates in the race so far scares the crap out of me. I'd take the wrong Democrat over the right Democrat that doesn't get elected any day. I certainly don't want Donald Trump nominating sure-to-be-confirmed Supreme Court justices. EDIT: I'd be wary of an Democrat-led congress and president too, but less so. It seems like the Democrats are more thoughtful of "good of the country" vs. "good for the party base", but that may well be my bias showing.

I feel the same way about the Eagles here, but the Cowboys? Burn the witch indeed. (Eagles fans have the endearing quality of hating the Giants, Redskins, and Cowboys, too!)

I hope we return to captioning the photos in the GDT for fun, I loved that bit from the Tank. I'm not sure it'll work as well this year with people actually wanting to discuss hockey.

I think it's funny that you feel Salon is actual journalism. :) I used to read it often, but I haven't much since the last interesting column disappeared (King Kauffman's Sports). Every once in awhile I go back and it's just so shamelessly liberal and hysterical; I like my shameless liberals more measured and reasonable.

Trollin', in my 5.0... :)

Yep, always works. :)

"Question one: neither of the candidates have endorsed a proposed 10 ft monument to the Ten Commandments on the White House south lawn, why do you hate America? Senator Sanders, let's start with you."

Reinhart: Fewer minutes in NHL or more minutes in AHL?
MattPie replied to pi2000's topic in The Aud Club
This sums it up to me. None of us (likely) are NHL coaches, so to say this should happen or that should happen is presumptuous. In a case like this where both ideas seem like good ones, you just have to trust that the folks making the decisions make the right call. -

I don't know the answer to this question, good thing we have coaches and whatnot. :) -
Reinhart: Fewer minutes in NHL or more minutes in AHL?
MattPie replied to pi2000's topic in The Aud Club
That only really works if the playing time is equivalent between the two leagues. NHL playing time is more valuable than AHL playing time (IMHO), it's just a matter of how much more valuable it is. To put it other terms, if my goal is to be an architect of grand office buildings, sending me to design homes does have value to my career, but it may not have as much value as being assigned to designing the bathrooms of a grand office building and gradually being assigned larger pieces. -
Who let him out of the can?

My advanced stats tell me he's scored his two goals from almost the exact same spot. :)

I'm not, but I think it'll be great. :) Moving back is on my radar. There's a lot of upheaval at my workplace right now, and coupled with changes to retirement benefit there's a better chance that I'd move on now. Plus, having RosePie near her grandparents and cousins would be a huge plus.
