  1. A noble sentiment, other than having reporters apparently ask Kane about it all the time. For that matter, should Ladd have said, "Kane isn't a member of the team any more, I don't have a comment."? Why does Ladd need to respond to Kane's comments? Hmm? :)
  2. I have pretty infinite patience, because as time is running, I care less. I remember thinking in 99 and 05-07, "man, if the Sabres win it all it's going to be such a party, it'll be great and I'll be there." (meaning in Buffalo or the surrounding area) Now, with responsibilities there's almost no way I'm going out the celebrate the way I'd like; to enjoy it the way I'd like. I probably won't even be able to watch the game effectively since I don't have cable. So while I care, it's not nearly as important to me as it once would have been.
  3. I think most of the people here will call it what it is: a fairly balanced trade. Maybe the Darcy years have set the wrong tone, there are trades that aren't fleecings in one direction or the other. At this moment in time, the two primary players that came to Buffalo are hurt so I guess in your terms it's a hose job. In other news, I got totally screwed on my mortgage, I'm paying all that money and I'm NOT EVEN HOME RIGHT NOW!
  4. That's about the only Twin Peaks I've seen. I remember it being on when it originally aired, but it didn't gain traction at my house.
  5. I'll give you Stafford finishing there gave you the edge on resigning him. As Ink mentioned in the other thread, though, a typical rental player's value on the open market is a 2nd round pick, and negotiating rights have gone for a 4th round pick in the past (Ehrhoff is the most recent example I can think of). If winning the trade hinges on those values, I'm not going to sweat it. Myers and Bogo is a hockey trade: Myers has more offensive upside and Bogo has more grit. Both teams needed the the other, so it's a wash.
  6. Look under "brawl". :)
  7. Philosophical question: is it better for Toronto to suffer, or have them think they're going to be good (like trading for Stamkos) and then suffering for other reasons?
  8. Only in hindsight could that be true, as Ink pointed out in that other thread, Stafford was a UFA; regardless of how well he's playing right now, at the time he could have just as easily walked over the summer. If Stafford had been signed for X more years, you may be right (and that assumes Kane flames out in Buffalo). Myers and Bogo are still a wash; both good D with flaws, just different flaws.
  9. There's either some confirmation bias going on here or Stafford really did need a change of scenery.
  10. Well, this snuck up on me. I usually plan to watch the Flyers games with a couple local friends (or even go to a game or two) but I'm not sure I can swing it tonight. I think I need to get the proxy stuff set up pretty quick so I can queue up GCL without the local blackout.
  11. Yep, and Yahoo! showed the technology wasn't ready for primetime at least at my house. Relatively new laptop (1920x1080 screen), FIOS internet (25Mb, I think), and it would still bounce around between "pretty good", "a little fuzzy", and "2002 amateur porn" quality levels. I didn't plug in the TV, but "pretty good" looked relatively clean on the laptop screen.
  12. RosePie just started too. It seemed like she had been ready for awhile then, boom, all over the pace. It's great and terrifying!
  13. Without Jem? That's ridiculous.
  14. It's probably worth noting that Girgensons has played all but a handful of his NHL games in Ted Nolan's system (a bunch of games in October 2013 under Rolston and this year under Bylsma); he may be adjusting to a system that requires more than "work hard" for nearly the last two years. I think he was under Rolston in the AHL in 12-13, which implies a system but I don't know how effective it was.
  15. I found a big jump going to loose tea over bags if you don't mind the hassle. There's a bit of sticker shock when you look at the per-pound prices, but a pound of tea is a *lot*. I haven't tried the Earl Gray Numi tea loose, but the Green Jasmine 1lb bag may be one of the best deals going at ~$20. I weighed it out once and per cup, you're only using a gram or two of tea so 1lb is 250+ cups. More if you do a second run re-using the same leaves. http://www.amazon.com/Numi-Organic-Italian-Bergamot-Black/dp/B00G9NQXZS/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1445886730&sr=8-3&keywords=numi+earl
  16. Nothing about me is small. I really need to eat better again.
  17. I have chosen to opt out of cable, since I pretty much agree with you about the cost. The difference is by opting out of cable, I've stopped consuming the product they were offering. In terms of GameCenter vs. Hockeystreams, it's like buying bootleg DVDs; you still want the product but aren't prepared to purchase it through legal means. I'm not judging anyone who does, but I can't get around my feeling that it's "wrong" to me. It'd be nice if GCL didn't have to deal with blackouts but being a legitimate entity it has to play by the rules.
  18. Are we to the part of the season where good teams are playing each other or is it still Ohio State vs. Bob Norris Basket Construction Community College?
  19. I haven't seen a single commercial (we're talking about the broadcast feed commercials, right?) this year on GCL (via PS3 or Android). I miss them, I like seeing the Buffalo commercials more than the NHL logo "we be right back" screen. #2: not really preference, it is illegal. The odds of direct repurcussions to you are pretty slim, other than if someone brings the hammer down on them you'll be out however much you paid. But I'm not here to judge, everyone makes their own choices. It's pretty unlikely malware would be written for the Roku though.
  20. I sleep pretty late, but rarely in my life have a slept past 9-10am, even with boozing, out til dawn, etc.
  21. I was going to write more, but a yelling toddler interrupted me. Get used to that. :)
  22. Prospective Father Advice (this is all "negative" stuff, but it's stuff that I wish I'd taken more to heart): Do everything you think you're going to do when the babies are around RIGHT NOW. You're not going to get to it for months after. If the pregnancy isn't hitting MrsMenace too bad, travel and do everything you can now, too. It's a lot easier caring for a baby when it's on the inside. Don't turn down any help for the first weeks after the kids show up, doubly so for you. MrsPie had help, but due to location it was only a week then we were on our own with some visits from the grandparents. That was, and is, really hard. If you can manage it, stay up late caring for the baby while MrsMenace sleeps for 4 uninterrupted hours and then you sleep for a few hours. Feeding may interrupt that, of course, but do your best.
  23. He'd be run out of today's Republican party as too liberal.
  24. Maybe it's the last 15 years talking, but I'm uncomfortable calling any scenario where the Bills lose an upset. This team has a knack for losing games.
