  1. If my reading of the standings is right, the Sabres can only lose 1 point for the season (and get to 92) to have any chance. The Sabres can't match the Aisles and Swamp Cats for RW and both are 6 points ahead, so they need one more point both of them. The Sabres could beat the Pens in RW, if they ended up tied in points. Sabres WC scenarios (assuming all wins remaining): Neither Aisles nor Swamp Cats earn 2 or more points in their last two games Pens take 3 or fewer points in their remaining 2 games
  2. None of those sites are trying to provide news, just entertainment and clicks. I find AP and Reuters to be solid choices for just news, with worthwhile titles. NPR is good too, but leans a bit left (not nearly as far as the perception though). I normally say when the oil runs out, but it does appear that electric cars are going to get there so we'll need another way.
  3. Man, pay Craig Anderson however many dollars next year to special goal coach if he wants it.
  4. We'll be able to think at each other on SabreNeuralSpace in 30 years when they need a new stadium. It just seems like such a missed opportunity.
  5. And, frankly, you're speculating that he tried to acquire one guy (Chychrun) and failed, and did nothing else. Bold: GMTM got things done. He was not a success. Ottawa's GM this year got things done. They are also going to miss the playoffs.
  6. There has to be someone I guess. People that want to newest thing?
  7. I have no idea, but I'll admit that the grandstanding tweets above immediately made me think they're courting public opinion because their case is weak. 🙂
  8. Yeah, that's never backfired before. MUST WIN
  9. I have zero, and I mean zero, doubt that KA called about every D he could find that fit. Between NMCs, asking prices, and timing it may look like there wasn't anything done but I truly doubt they were just watching youtube videos instead of working. On asking price: the Sabres are sitting on a goldmine of what appear to be high-level NHL or almost ready for NHL prospects and other GMs know this. They're not going to ask (for example) Ottawa for the same thing as the Sabres. Ottawa's picks are probably the most valuable thing they have. The Sabres have players.
  10. I'm willing to give Comrie some leeway with his injuries and the team play in front of him, but you are correct that he might not be consistent enough to automatically be the backup. Craig Andersen? I like the guy but I think he's done.
  11. Well, no doubt there are Russian players that are pro-Putin, and some that just act like it because they have to. I'm prepared to give Russian players a pass in general since we don't know and the consequences for dissent are non-trivial for them.
  12. Team play style aside, Comrie has shown himself to be a competent backup before this year. I don't know enough to discuss whether Winnipeg's style fits with Comrie better than the Sabres'.
  13. And traditionally, they'll tear the person down hard and label them enemy of the state if they put a toe out of line. I listened to this composer randomly and read the biography. Quite the roller coaster for him. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dmitri_Shostakovich
  14. And I think it's a AHL thing. The AHL has this rule in place so NHL teams that get eliminated in April can't stack their AHL team with players. I don't think it works the other way though. If a team lost, say, all but two starting D for Game 7 of the ECF, there's no problem calling up an AHL guys for their first NHL game.
  15. That's always the question, can he adapt when shooters find a hole? I like to think he's got the mindset to do it, but time will tell. In just watching highlights, he does seem to lose the puck at times. In FLA, there was one where it was right by his skate and he was looking around, and in the first game it seemed like there were a couple times he was searching. Hopefully that's just an adjustment on the speed the puck is moving in the NHL and not something more telling.
  16. To be honest, doubtful he was going to make the jump at 23 from borderline Division 1 Mercyhurst to the NHL. If really wants to play, he might catch on with ECHL or maybe AHL teams but really he should be planning on something that doesn't involve him playing hockey to be safe.
  17. Can someone mediate a solution? 🙂 In seriousness, you don't really have to learn to meditate that much. Just start with some guided meditation, find a quiet place, and listen to what the guide is saying. Noise blocking earbuds are awesome for this.
  18. I feel like this game is a MUST WIN, just like every other game.
  19. Am I being cynical that the NCAA hockey season is over, or has he been suspended all this time?
  20. I don't disagree with your premise, but I think "He is the goalie with the fewest known flaws and gives us hope he won't let in five like all the others have this season." is more accurate. 🙂
  21. Stats aren't my strong point, but I think the % have to add up to 200% since there are two spots. Think of it this way: if you had three teams, equal odds, and two spots chosen randomly, each team would have a 66.7% chance of getting picked, since they'd each get picked in two of the three scenarios (AB, BC, and AC). In this case, those three teams are pretty much a toss-up, and the other 10% or so are the collective odds one of the teams further back makes a run.
  22. The algorithm is probably fair, really. The Sabres need to pick up like 80%+ of the remaining points available, while the two of the three teams we're chasing have to play at or below their season % for the Sabres to get in. You don't bet on three unlikely things to all happen at once without a hefty dose of hopium.
  23. And in some cases, you'll take $18 an hour at Five Guys just to not work at McDonald's.
  24. Has Casey been skating on the RW? I think he's always listed as C/LW. That's not a bad idea if he's comfortable on that side (or they shuffle things around and someone else plays RW while he plays on LW). Does seem like 50+ points might be too costly for a 3/4 line wing when his contract comes around though.
  25. I think the Sabres are at the point where kids coming up need to fill a *need* not just replace a body like this year. As much fun as having a bunch of 100% rookies in the lineup this year is, going forward it should be more like 1-3 skaters at most. It's doubtful any of the next batch of kids are going to replace KO or Mitts out of the gate. It's not entirely about offence, they might do that. It's about the full spectrum of hockey skills that the older players bring that you can't expect most 20-year-olds to fill in the NHL *yet*. KO out if he wants to retire Anderson out (I have to think) Maybe VO gone in a deal I'd love to see a partner for Power and push Joki down a spot; maybe that's Johnson, maybe that's a trade/FA The way I'm looking at it, you find a two-way vet for KO, and maybe one of the kids for VO or another two-way vet. Mitts stays unless he's part of a solid 3/4D trade.
