Just to note on Parise and Suter, while the total value of their contracts are around $100M, their cap hits are $7.5M, which isn't anything egregious. Their numbers are actually $7,538,462, which is only $38,462 more than Ryan O'Reilly. There are certainly other good teams out there that have two guys in that neighborhood at the top (Chicago, Anaheim, St Louis, NYR, Pittsburgh).

Nice. I'm trying to think of whom to cast as Bettman. I'd have to say Rob Schneider or John Lovitz because those two are insufferable and I want to punch their faces in whenever I see them. Sound familiar?

FWIW, my initial thought was "you so did bang on about how Terry might start the series back up for the cold hard Loonies". Seeing the posts quoted by nFreeman, I think you have to be cutting it pretty fine to deny it. I'm not trying to run you off or anything, your posts often offer insight (which is more than can be said of mine).

I wasn't speaking to commerce directly (as I know about the interstate commerce stuff), but more about regulations, such as the EPA rules, minimum wage, NHTSA rules for cars, etc. We already see a little of that with California's different rules for cars, which manufacturers either make a California version of a car and a 49-state version, or just sell the CA version everywhere. You'd undoubtedly run into situations where states would end up with conflicting regulations on something so you'd have to create several versions of an item to meet state rules. It's nice to say that rights cannot be abrogated by individual states, but for at least 100 years the Southern states did exactly that and many states are trying to do that right now with LGBT rights. Someone mentioned you could move, but that's not really available for people in lower income brackets (as easily) or if there are other factors that tie people to an area.

Oh, interesting. I haven't been using it lately; I didn't even install is on my current phone. I played around one day with OsmAnd and its tracking capability. It does work but OsmAnd is kinda round around the edges in general.

OK, that's fair. I don't ride enough but haven't noticed anything the phone app is missing. I have used either Mytracks, Runtastic Pro, or Runtastic Road Bike depending when we're talking about.

These seem like pretty reasonable assessments to me. We've seen penalty-taking Myers too; it always seemed like that's not at all natural for him so he does what he thinks is tough but doesn't do it with the nuance that helps other guys get away with it. He's the awkward guy at a party talking to women and not doing anything obviously wrong, but just doesn't do it right.

I'm curious, what's the concept in keeping your phone hidden away?

I go back and forth about State Rights vs. Federal. On one hand, the idea that individual states can choose what's best for them has merit. On the other hand, I believe in the idea that there are "Americans" as a people and having each state be it's own little country with wildly different education, commerce rules, or laws about every day things isn't an advantage. At least some of the states would end up denying rights to portions of their population. Companies would have a harder time expanding outside state boundaries. We'd look more like the European Union and I'm not sure that's a good thing. I'd worry it would only stoke division and end up in, if not Civil Wars, Civil Conflicts. Thought experiment: more people live in California than Canada. The argument for states rights is that the federal government is too big and craves too much power (I think, educate me if that's not the case). Is it OK that the State Government of California would be larger and more powerful than Canada? If so, where does the boundary lie?

I don't know the others well enough, but I don't see Johnson going to AZ. Domingue has been OK for them and Mike Smith is supposedly coming back this season. I think they just fill the spot with a prospect until Smith returns.

It'll be interesting to find out which NHL exec has skeletons in the closet and is protecting him from DoPS.

Bogo often ends up against the other teams' top line, which may be a bit much for him. Based on this year, he's not a top-2 D. I think if he were playing a steady 2nd pair role, his numbers would look a lot better. Unless he falls further off a cliff, he's better than 3rd pair.

I see it more like, "Well, the season is scerwed, what's the most crazy thing that goes against my instincts I can do here? I know, Eichel, O'Reilly, and Risto in OT!"
