  1. I read an article about an elderly woman who swallowed a fly. It escalated quickly.
  2. I'm not even sure when that came out, and I was a yuuugggeeee Metallica fan. I went to Media Play at midnight with my metal-loving bandmates to buy Load on the day it was released. I haven't bought one since. It makes me kinda sad in a way.
  3. I must be the strange one, I never liked Justice the way I liked the first three. Something about the production just didn't have the raw energy of the first three. That could well be Cliff Burton haunting the sessions, I dunno.
  4. Apparently Metallica is feeling its roots based on the two songs off their new album that have been released. I'll never be a fan like I was when I was in high school, but this takes me back; this song could be straight off Master of Puppets (other than not being 8 minutes long).. Check out "Moth to Flame" too if you're a fan of that era. It's a bit more Justice or Black than this, but still like hearing a lost track from an old favorite band.
  5. '72 was a pretty tumultuous year for #14.
  6. I don't think you're a dad, but your Dad-joke game is top-notch. I love it.
  7. That's what the internet is for: debating the merits of things we'll never personally have experience. See also: super-cars, super-man, and how "terrible" members of the best 1000 hockey players in the world are.
  8. Scheisse, you're right.
  9. You kids... My first modem was 300 baud; 0.3k, if you will. You could read text as it came over without having to pause. Later had a 2400 baud, which was nice for transfers but you had to start using a pager because I was just a bit too fast to read without.
  10. I'd have to think the Sabres either have rights to the NHL footage (or have a pretty friendly agreement with the actual rights holders). The music may be covered under a music site license. Most bars license with ASACP to cover performance of cover songs on the premises. I'd think the area has something similar. EDIT: They'd probably have to work something out if they release the video to the internet, though.
  11. It is, but those counties are soooo small in population. The entire state of Wyoming's population is 2/3 Erie County (NY). Or for a more relevant reference to you, Wyoming has twice as many people as Dauphin County, PA.
  12. That actually follows for most metropolitan areas around the country, even in solidly Republican states. Here's an active map: http://elections.nytimes.com/2008/results/president/map.html Here's a county map. Note that some counties in red states are red; those are usually around cities:
  13. There's two ways to approach an election: go with ideals and choose the candidate that best represents your values. The other is to vote in such a way that gives you the best chance of having the election end a favorable manner for you. This year it's pretty easy to talk about third parties with the unlikeable major party candidates, but would you still be voting for a third party if one of the majors was a pretty good match for you and the election was tight? It's a tough call to say, "I'm not going to throw my lot in with a person I like and instead vote for someone I love but has no chance."
  14. I seen what you did there.
  15. true. Almost any time you hear "stream to your device" from a big media company, it means you're going to need a cable account. It's a bit maddening for stuff that's on broadcast TV though; that should be free! :)
  16. Everyone dreams of playing in Toronto, or so Toronto media thinks.
  17. I wonder how much this shift is driven by highlights on the internet. Many moons ago, there wasn't a reasonable way to see highlights other than EPSN and the like. Now, I'm not going to sit through an hour of TV to watch the minute (at best!) of highlights from the game I'm interested in; I'll just go to youtube and watch the 3-minute video. ESPN has to offer something more than "youtube highlight video aggregator", which they've gone to annoying personalities trying to cover all popular sports. Speaking of video aggregators, I'm betting there's a youtube playlist or other web site that essentially finds all the highlight videos from the night before and plays them back to back.
  18. You know, putting a Tim Hortons in a tree house would keep it away from ROR's pickup.
  19. If the sports package means "I get a bunch of regional channels", the last time I had it it was SOP for games to be blacked out live (since they're "available" via CI in your local market). Back in 2002-04 the midnight replay on Empire Sports wouldn't be blacked out, but I don't know if that's still true.
  20. ROR is terrible, have you seen his +/- from last year? The archive feed I'm watching now is HD-ish on my phone.
  21. Rewording the headline, Six Sabres draft picks, including one with Pun-friendly name, returned to Junior. If Pu had stuck around, that'd be notable as few 3rd-rounders do in after their first camp.
  22. Like a dingleberry? (I had to. I'm sorry. I'll get me coat and be off.)
  23. I'm not sure why I'm doing this: Corsi: this is raw shots. The guy that goes out and plays against Ovechkin, Crosby, and Eichel every shift is going to look worse than the guy on his team playing against the Pat Kaletas, Adam Mairs, and MFolignos of the league. The same goes for +/-.
  24. Make sure to put an air vent in, we'd miss you otherwise.
  25. A> Is there some rivalry between Penn State and the NCAA school he went to (if applicable) B> It's a standard college hockey thing
