I'm honestly surprised a collection of hockey fans are voting in a landslide. I'd have thought blue and white collar white men (which I think most of us fall) would be fairly even.

If Kane's a bust, that mean he busts a move in said nightclub?

My polling place is pretty busy. It's in an urban neighborhood so that's the be expected. I think I waited at least 30 minutes in each of the last two Presidential elections; absentee this time around.

I'm an engineer that isn't all that great at higher-level math. I feel you.

MattPie to RosePie this morning: Guten tag, mein frauline. RosePie to MattPie: Those aren't real words. (I should be noted I speak almost no German and I'm sure that phrase sounds as weird as "Good daylight my young woman" does in English)

And penalties going Buffalo's way? Also, an 11+% stout helps a lot. http://www.weyerbacher.com/beers/special-release/sunday-mole-stout/

Yeah, in hindsight my numbers are off.

DB whacks at the ball while Woods is getting up, Woods does the first-down holding the ball up towards the DB's face, DB whacks the ball again, Woods walks away. It's probably taunting, but with the whacks at the ball I'd have let it go if I were the ref.

Yep. Where's the coolant leak? I'm guessing by the cost it's external to the engine, so maybe not that hard to fix. It may be worth trying some Stop Leak on it for a Stop-gap. Read this, though: http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=516862

Nice! :) My WRX meets that criteria. My bike is questionable; I removed the muffler entirely but left the cat on. It still meets noise reqs (I think, it's not as loud as a stock Harley) and still meets emissions regs with the cat. It's been inspected a few times so it must be OK. :)

Thanks for the informative article; I was going to ask if the name "Pakistan" followed the naming scheme of that area, and it apparently does not.

Yep, I'm not going to quote, but I agree with all of this. If you tally up the Islanders, Devils, and Rangers fans you probably have the same number of hockey fans as all of Canada. Maybe not the same level of fandom, but there just aren't that many people in the GWN.

Romo from what I understand is a pretty good to great QB (better than anyone the Bills have had in years), but it does seem like he's choke-prone. I'm not sure what I'd prefer; hopes dashed or no hope at all.

Well, you didn't say which Kennedy and President of what.

The Bills are on tonight and no one has posted in here in 4 days? Who had first week in November for "Next year is the Bills' year"?
-
If I'm not already out, one on the Sabres tonight against Boston. At $1895, Sabres +145.

Me too. Very nice, very nice.

I don't think it's considered as such here in the US, but I know some of the unsavory characters in JK Rowling's non-Harry Potter book use it that way so it must be a thing. Is it commonly used negatively in Canada?

I never had an issue with John Scott on the team, I really rooted for him. There were people around here that never wanted to see him play another game, goon, etc. though.

I like that the poll is multiselect; vote early, vote often!

Game Day Thread GDT: Buffalo at Boston, 7:00 PM ET, 11/07/2017
MattPie replied to Doohicksie's topic in The Aud Club
As a note, if you have a Verizon phone, the NFL Mobile app lets you stream the game (over wifi); that's my plan, Sabres on TV, Bills on the phone, working on the laptop all the while. Note that I've tried piping the video from my phone to a TV a few different ways and that doesn't seem to work; the only one I haven't tried is using an HDMI cable because I don't have one. -
For JJ, I'd be looking at "Not for Highway Use" exhausts and accessories on his registered vehicles. :) I can think of a few things that I'd get dinged for, most around speeding probably. :)

The story isn't worth full relating, but one night I had I-95 completely to myself on the motorcycle for about 10 miles in northeastern Maryland. Not a car in sight on either side.

1st bold: Service providers: depends on the service, right? "Luxury" services (let's say landscaping crews) will take a hit on two fronts: the people paying for them now will have less disposable income and be more reluctant to pay for them in the future, and with this new demand for labor, they'll have to pay their employees more driving the cost up further. There *may* be positive effects for manufacturers of basic goods, although the increased labor cost will hurt them too. You'll see more investment in automation (robots) to eliminate some jobs. 2nd bold: The thing about exports is when you enact a tariff on imported goods, other countries have a habit of doing the same for your goods. The export business goes into the toilet as the now more expensive goods can't compete on the global market.

Your analysis is likely correct at the macro level, but what about at the micro level? For an individual who already has a job his buying power is reduced; essentially the entire nation takes a pay cut. I'm lucky, it'd mostly be a belt-tightening exercise for me. For a person who is just scraping along, they have to start making choices about food vs. necessities. But there's an aspect in there that I don't understand: what happens when production can make an item for a certain amount, but people are buying less of them because they have less buying power. The manufacturer isn't going to lower the price below the cost to make the item to drive up demand. Do they slow down production to meet demand and eliminate jobs? It's interesting that very few economists have endorsed Trump. I hope the revenue from the tariffs goes to fund social programs like food stamps.
